I hate the word 'stink'. What words do you hate for no real reason?

I dunno if it's just because I dislike it so much, but 'stink' or 'stinky' or 'stinking' seems to be written regularly on different posts. I hate it and no idea why really it's just a word Grin

It's not even like it evokes an unpleasant memory, like of an awful odour or something. I have no logical reason for my not liking the word. Maybe just the way the k looks kind of sharp at the end, and abruptly finishes the word? And of course it does mean and unpleasant thing, whereas the word 'slink' does not necessarily...See, I told you it made no sense.

Also, belly. Again I can't really say why I don't like this word. I don't have such a violent dislike as in I don't mind other people using it, but would never use it myself.

What words do you hate for totally illogical reasons?

Veggie as in "are you a veggie"

How hard is it to say vegetarian?

Vegetarian has far too many syllables. Veggie is fine.

I don't really understand this thread. People must be in a constant state of irritation.

I also hate the word ‘stink’ it sounds quite violent to me.

Other words include:

Meal
Gifted
Cosy

KnobbingtonKnobberson · 27/08/2023 23:00

I always imagine that the kind of person who objects to referring to children as 'kids' must be extremely formal and buttoned up.

Ilovelurchers · 27/08/2023 22:58

I think mine have all been said several times - stinky, yummy, and nom. Nobody makes the sound nom when eating - they just don't.

I had an ex who hated the word bunch. I used to call him a fun-bunch.

It isn't one word, but I hate it when people talk about "making memories", when what they mean is "doing nice stuff". I described my holiday to my friend recently, and she said it was lovely how I was "making memories" with my daughter, and I thought, my daughter and I would have made just as many memories if we had stayed in our house and argued bitterly all week. Unless very drunk or asleep, or a few other states, we are making memories all the time. For fuck's sake!!!!!

(Sorry).

Mummyof287 · 27/08/2023 22:58

I agree with Belly and Tummy. Not for adults anyway.
Also;
Lush, Butt, Burp, cringe, sick (when used for something positive)
People saying to babies 'let's change your bum' errmm, you're changing their nappy, not their bum! 🤣

ImNotReallySpartacus · 27/08/2023 22:55

'Passed away' or, worse, 'passed'. Just say 'died', it won't make the person more dead.

Agree wholeheartedly on this one. But 'passed' seems to be creeping in more and more.

Gnomegnomegnome · 27/08/2023 20:58

Kids. It’s awful.

I'm not keen on 'kids' either tbh, think it comes from my dad who never was and it just reminds me of baby goats! It has actually even crossed my mind as little bit of a reason for me not to have anymore children....at the moment I can say 'the girls' wheras if I had a boy would have to say 'the kids' '('the children' sounds abit stiff upper lip)
