I hate the word 'stink'. What words do you hate for no real reason?

I dunno if it's just because I dislike it so much, but 'stink' or 'stinky' or 'stinking' seems to be written regularly on different posts. I hate it and no idea why really it's just a word Grin

It's not even like it evokes an unpleasant memory, like of an awful odour or something. I have no logical reason for my not liking the word. Maybe just the way the k looks kind of sharp at the end, and abruptly finishes the word? And of course it does mean and unpleasant thing, whereas the word 'slink' does not necessarily...See, I told you it made no sense.

Also, belly. Again I can't really say why I don't like this word. I don't have such a violent dislike as in I don't mind other people using it, but would never use it myself.

What words do you hate for totally illogical reasons?

Snack

Don't know why but it just irritates me.

ToooManyPJs · 27/08/2023 21:37

Can't really explain this but I despise the word 'portfolio'. Not in the context of a student's artwork for example, more when people use it do describe their investments.

Gnomegnomegnome · 27/08/2023 21:36

Oh also unprecedented 🤮

Anothermam · 27/08/2023 21:33

Panties, by a mile the worst word.

"Bonk" to mean sex

I actually like fart compared to other words for farting. (Trump, pump etc.. sound far more gross to me.)

excelledyourself · 27/08/2023 21:30

When someone says they find something 'jarring'

Thedogscollar · 27/08/2023 21:29

The phrase gives me the ick literally sets me on edge.
Equally awful is vibes and vibing😫

Amumto4crotchgoblins · 27/08/2023 21:23

'Nom nom' usually said or written when eating something 🤬

NowWhattt · 27/08/2023 21:20

I hate stinks too. And also breakfast. The way some people pronounce it gives me the irk.
I also loathe : bum, kids, hubby, shit- a lot already mentioned.
Will think of more .

KohlaParasaurus · 27/08/2023 21:19

"Caress" and "fondle". My XH used to like to use these words when pawing at me against my wishes. I still shudder. "Ravish" is beyond the pale.

"Nutty" used to describe the flavour of any food that is not an actual nut.

HeatherMoores · 27/08/2023 21:17

Grub.
Haughty.

Spanielsarepainless · 27/08/2023 21:16

I hate 'stink' too and 'belch'.

nogracias · 27/08/2023 21:13

Fart.

It's a swear word in our house.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/08/2023 21:12

Tea (when referring to dinner)

I'm the opposite. Cannot stand when someone says dinner for a normal tea at home. Dinner is either the day time meal at school, or going out for food at night.

Watching TV with your tea on your lap is not dinner.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/08/2023 21:08

Snog. It makes me cringe.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/08/2023 21:08

Bulge. It's the worst word ever.

DianaBarry5 · 27/08/2023 21:07

Pump when used to mean a fart. Not sure why I find it so offensive but I do!

Gnomegnomegnome · 27/08/2023 20:58

Kids. It’s awful.

FlyingPandas · 27/08/2023 20:50

I absolutely hate (in no particular order)

-'pud' (as in Christmas pud - just NO)
-'cuppa' - should be illegal
-'packed' (in certain contexts only - so "I've packed my suitcase" is fine, describing food as 'packed with nutrition' or 'packed with goodness' gives me the rage, tabloid rags describing celebs as having 'packed on the PDA' makes me want to break things)
-'delicious' (when used in the context of describing a child or baby i.e. 'delicious mop of curls' or 'delicious little outfit' - they are not food FFS)
-'scrumptious' (even worse when used to describe a child or baby but actually in any context - it's just a hideous twee shitty word and should be removed from the dictionary and made illegal).

I absolutely recognise that all of these are completely illogical.

UncleHerbie · 27/08/2023 20:49

Also “grownup(s) when said by an adult in an adult only discussion or conversation

mrsfindlay · 27/08/2023 20:48

Smelly / stinky / stink
Belly
Cheesy
Chippy - chippy chips - cheesy chips
Hubby
Telly
Fart
Bogey
Snot
Tea (when referring to dinner)
Fanny
Booze

When people say "Im offski" when they are leaving

When people say "mum / dad" when talking about their parent to others instead of "my mum / my dad"

Also when people respond with "fair enough"

A lot of these made me cringe / feel disgust just typing them. Clearly, I dislike a lot of words

QueenBitch666 · 27/08/2023 20:47

Banter
Bantz

”Bits” to describe pointless cluttery shopping where someone’s impulse-bought a huge pile of crap.

Yes absolutely this ! It usually is some pointless crap .

readbooksdrinktea · 27/08/2023 20:44

The misuse of literally.

'I'm shook'. Chrimbo.

baloosbaloos · 27/08/2023 20:41

“Chimanea.” Ugh. UGH.
