A G&T at 5 o’clock works wonders. Advice given to me when I had a newborn by an older friend!. The gin was for me not the baby. I have taken the advice on occasions!

Put a chopped up lemon in a bowl of water in the microwave full power for 3/4 mins

To put your duvet cover on easily, turn it inside out, slip your hands into the corners, grab the corners of the duvet and shake: it goes on instantly.

Don't bother with those bullshit cystitis sachets: just drink some bicarb in water, it blitzes it much faster and more effectively in one go

I agree with the washing up liquid tip, but to be extra safe, I added white vinegar to get out the random blackberry stains (how?) from a white shirt (whhhyyy??) the other day.
Vinegar is great for most things - especially cleaning glass, and as a fabric softener. Added with bicarb, it will keep black things black in the washing machine. (I also use a mix of Isopropyl alcohol and water (3:1) in a spray bottle for cleaning most surfaces. And neat, will clean a phone screen wonderfully.)

Fairy liquid also removed half a tub of hair wax (when it was a new thing...) from my then three-year-old daughter's shoulder length hair - but only after we had tried several shampoos and the hairdresser had cut off three inches!

Another one is, when getting up from the floor - use your toes!
I have recently discovered this, and it makes such a difference in a house with hard floors.

In winter, I use the stiff bags for life in my boots to keep their shape, and it helps me to remember them for shopping; the bags, not the boots. (Summer is a different matter though.)

When making instant hot chocolate add a splash of milk and stir into a paste. When you add the hot water it makes it frothy and a little bit more creamy tasting 😋

On a lighter note, rapidly cooling hard boiled eggs under cold running water will stop them getting that nasty grey rim around the yolk.

Why is everyone barmy about Zoflora?

I am sick of buying clothes from Vinted/Depop that absolutely reek of it. Not much fun for those of us with allergies/sensitive skin/our own much nicer perfumes.

Can I please have a tip about how to get this stinky chemical crap out of clothes? It doesn't wash out. I've tried a capful of vinegar in the wash, line-drying etc.

If you are arguing with a teen about whether they can do something, ask yourself/discuss with them -a) is it actually dangerous? b) Might they seriously regret it in the future? c) is it going to make someone else unhappy?

When your fabric conditioner bottle gets half full, top it up with tap water then shake.

Use the same volume as always. When you run out, keep that bottle then decant half of the new bottle into the old bottle and top up and shake . Add tap water to the new bottle too.

Makes no difference to softness.

Put the plug in the kitchen sink. Fill it with hot water from a kettle just boiled and put Zoflora in it. Makes the entire house smell insane

Leave your washing machine door and powder drawer open every night to help prevent mould and mouldy smells.

In hot weather freeze food scraps in a food caddy liner tucked away at the back of your freezer. Put out the night before or morning of bin day = no maggots in bins.

If you get deodorant marks on a top while putting it on, rub the marks against each other and they will come straight off.

Store bedding sets inside one of the pillowcases from the set. Saves so much time when you’re trying to find all the bits you need to make the bed.

And if you can’t say something nice, don’t bother. All those people on here sniping about spelling and someone taking 5 minutes to mumsnet while (I assume) breastfeeding - really? Did that make you feel better? Let the people be.

Masking tape will do. Washi tape is just colourful masking tape

Check your bath towels for spiders before wrapping yourself up after your bath.

Note to self - find out what washi tape is and where to buy it before next holiday😀
