Is there a second thread? Can't find one anywhere. I am also overly invested and need to know the outcome and marvel at the detective work of MN's.

I like the theory that Dave was a misreading of Clive due to handwriting.

I think this is the likely explanation tbf. But changing his name from Dave is funnier.

I think the beauty of Clive was the fact he had changed his name multiple times due to his loopy views.

The most loopiest of which was going from Dave to Clive in the first place.

There is a fruit and veg shop reasonably near me named Clives and I swear I will never be able to go near it again without pissing myself laughing in the process. I do note that the GoFundMe is in the surname beginning with G, so he must have decided not to address his many surnames that were discovered in the original thread 😂

I agree about the comment mirroring Trigger from Only Fools in the original thread, I actually sounded like a donkey I was laughing so hard when I read that 😂 I have been having a really difficult time at the minute (not of my own making unlike a few other individuals I could think of) and some of that thread honestly cheered me up even if only for a short while!

I hate to say this, but I think we've passed peak interest with this story. I absolutely loved the last thread, and was in awe of MNers detective skills (surely M15 should start recruiting from here again, on the basis of that thread alone!). But once we'd discounted the wacky theories of buying/trying to sell the baby, it seems unlikely they'll be any exciting developments or revelations to follow.
Perhaps what we all need is a new mystery to work on!
(But yey, I'm so glad there's a new thread on this! 😆)

Sadly, for this reason, I doubt we shall find another story with such pure gold.

Or such epic Egosurfing.

The "we've named him after Dave, Clive" comment on the last thread was absolute gold.

ProfessorInkling · 17/08/2023 20:08

Somewhat disappointed to find out that they are just that stupid and the story is at it was presented. Oh well!

Governments refuse a child’s right as sport because a) they don’t qualify for one (not a uk resident etc) b) because they haven’t been given the right paperwork and presumably c) for their own safety?

They don’t just say no, sorry this one were refusing just for the fun of it because we have made children’s passports a national lottery style of issuing.

It could happen to anyone? Really though, could it? I've accidentally run to Rodney Bay! We went on holiday by mistake!

I see what you did there @LyingontheGrassonSundaymorningofLastWeek — twice! — and I applaud you for both references 😀

Silvered · 17/08/2023 18:31

Interesting how they did their own due diligence, but that didn't extend to sorting their older daughter's passport.

This story stinks like last week's fish. Timelines don't add up. Details have changed - eldest was distressed and now she's not. They forgot to renew her passport and now the Govt are "refusing".

And as for "it could happen to anyone". No Clive, no it could not. Stop trying to pretend that you are the victim in this. You're an arrogant twat that wants to claim freeman of the land when it suits, but you're quite happy to whinge about lack of state help when the manure hits the rotating ventilation device...

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2023 17:05

Thats what the photo suggests.

Its an interesting choice of photo for a sob story funderaiser.

But I think we have established that Clive is somewhat lacking in self awareness.

NillyNoMates · 17/08/2023 16:57

Where are they staying right now? On the boat?

Well, as a Have-Not, I don't tend to be inclined to give my hard earned cash to the Haves and the Have-Yachts.

This just gets funnier.
The fact that Clive is a MNer, and coming to the thread about him, for advice on how to update his own GoFundMe page...... You couldn't make it up!

Well, darling, don't we all?

PriamFarrl · 17/08/2023 15:13

Could happen to anyone in this exact same circumstances.

It’s not like say, becoming homeless, which could happen to anyone with a run of bad luck. This was because of deliberate choices they made.

RedToothBrush · 17/08/2023 15:06

LyingontheGrassonSundaymorningofLastWeek · 17/08/2023 14:50

Whilst heavily pregnant past the time limit to fly.

Yep could happen to anyone. Freebirth is all the rage amongst er .... Hmmm... Noone.

Alevelwoe · 17/08/2023 14:07

*abide

Alevelwoe · 17/08/2023 14:06

What do they need "legal funding" for? They've been told the steps that they need to take. They don't need a lawyer; they simply need to bide by the relevant laws.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/08/2023 13:45

Well the Fell Runner community aren't putting their hands in their pockets.

Interested to see he's put " it could happen to any one ...."

Really, really don't think so.

BloodyPrime · 17/08/2023 13:36

Its a good question about the flights. If they just bought one way tickets, then they presumably budgeted for return flights to potentially be expensive since they'd have to buy them for them plus newborn, and with little notice? So why are they complaining about the cost of the flight back? Due diligence presumably included making sure they could afford to get back home once the baby was born...?

ThickSkinnedSoWhat · 17/08/2023 11:34

WorriedMumofTeen16 · 17/08/2023 11:20

Another rewrite and this line is now included:

We are asking for help to pay for legal funding accomodation and food

The baby doesn't need food and it is the only of the three I have sympathy for, so I think I'll pass!

Just goes to show they're following this thread. Have to be. The magical friend who says the daughter they abandoned is happy (when they state otherwise on GoFundMe, maybe this will be the next update) maybe gave them a heads up to come nosey. I feel like tagging her in this thread to gather her thoughts on how things have magically changed 🙄
