Woman showing entire bum in public when bending over - what would you have done?

I was in the queue to pay in clothes shop today, standing behind a woman with her friend, both with babies in prams. It was outrageously hot and so she was wearing a short denim skirt that was pulled up high and a vest top. Obviously nothing wrong with that, however she bent over a few times to get things out of the basket under the pram and in doing do flashed her entire bum and thong. There were also mirrors to the side and behind us, so presumably this was also reflected to the entire shop. It was a proper full moon, not just a bit of bum cheek.

It didn’t seem as though she had noticed and her friend couldn’t see from her angle. I couldn’t help thinking that if I was in that scenario that I’d want to know. However I didn’t say anything because it’s none of my business and I didn’t want to embarrass her. Also maybe she knew and didn’t care 🤷🏻‍♀️

But, what would you have done/wanted someone else to do if you were in that situation? I do live up north in a place where strangers do talk to each other regularly FYI!

YABU - I should have quietly told her that her bum was exposed to the shop

YANBU - leave her to it

I flashed the bin lorry once - I hadn’t realised my trousers had a big rip in the bum until the driver kindly pointed it out !

She knew what she was doing. Let her crack on.

Interesting how everyone seems to think that the woman knows that she is flashing her whole bottom. I am pretty sure so many dont realise that this happens.

For me, it’s more that she knows her skirt is short, so me telling her that her skirt is short isn’t going to do anything to benefit the situation.

She might not realise that her bum is showing, but she might take me approaching her as a critique of the length of her outfit - it’s embarrassing to be approached about.

Everyone has their own personal line of what they think strangers should/should not see of their body anyway - if she’s comfortable with her upper thighs on show, she might not care if her skirt rides up a bit for a few seconds when she temporarily bends to check the child.

lovecountrycottage · 23/06/2023 20:52

Excuse me , I understand you're here to check out clothes on display and your booty is fully cooperating with you by putting herself to display

eandz13 · 23/06/2023 20:51

It's happened to me a couple of times. I have a really long torso and wide hips, so if I wear something remotely short, it ends up riding up and I flash my arsecheeks by accident. If I dared wear a denim skirt or the like i'd spend my entire day pulling it down to avoid moonies, which, if I was out with the kids trying to sort them out, I wouldn't get chance to pull it down every 10 seconds!

I'd keep my mouth shut and be completely unbothered by it. The only time i'd say something is if there happened to be a sanitary product on show as that's obviously a little more embarrassing and I wouldn't let a woman walk around unaware of it.
Bit of bum flashing on a hot day? Meh

Bluebells1970 · 23/06/2023 20:51

Anyone who wears a thong knows this risk. She either doesn't care or gets a buzz from it.

I wouldn't have done anything. She must surely have known. I saw a tramp in Asda the other day showing his entire fat, scabby arse, the elastic had gone on his trackie bottoms. It was absolutely disgusting but there's nothing I could have done.

Fucking hell, this is deeply unpleasant

Asparagus1 · 23/06/2023 20:49

first week back at school in September my hubby came home from picking our then 5 year old up and proceeded to tell me how he (and the rest of the parents) had seen his new teachers whole bum! A gust of wind had lifted her just above knee length dress up and she had a thong on 🙈

MaxwellCat · 23/06/2023 20:44

No I wouldn’t say anything why would I? My sister goes out with short dresses and no knickers she knows what shes was doing

Berlinlover · 23/06/2023 20:44

I have a feeling she probably knew her bum could be seen.

tolerable · 23/06/2023 20:44

Oh my very gawd!!! Can y'all actually hear yourselves?
bend from the hips

CaffeineNeederViaIV · 23/06/2023 20:43

Call me old fashioned, but I do believe a woman's skirt should be longer than her vagina

Agree. I would probably have asked her where I could buy a thong like hers....(No. Not that brave - but I hope i would have said something as she probably just thought it was a great skirt and didn't realise it was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen)

FlippersDippers · 23/06/2023 20:40

If she had a baby in a pram and was juggling everything she probably didn’t even think that she might be flashing her bum. I wouldn’t say anything because I would worry about her reaction. Even smiling in my town gets a ‘what you looking at?’ response though. If I was told I was flashing my bum I would be embarrassed, I would rather the ignorant bliss of not knowing.

honeycookies · 23/06/2023 20:38

I think if it was a clear wardrobe failure (eg the skirt accidentally hooked up on something) then I’d tell her so she can sort it there and then. But if it’s just the way her outfit looks due to wearing a short item I wouldn’t say anything as I’d assume she is aware and wanted to look like that, or that it’s not something she can easily sort it out. Sometimes ignorance is bliss as she won’t be walking around feeling embarrassed until she can go home and change as she won’t realise what others saw…

to be honest though if I was wearing something that short I wouldn’t be bending over like that intentionally

Helenahandkart · 23/06/2023 20:35

Jeez this thread is mean-spirited.
When I was in my 20s I often wore short a-line skirts cos they looked lovely from the front. I never saw myself from the back, and I had no idea that I was showing my bum every time I bent over. As soon as I discovered that I stopped wearing such short skirts.
The poor lady probably had no idea about how much flesh she was exposing, and I can’t believe how many pps are suggesting that she was doing it deliberately.

Nobody wears a mini mini skirt and a thong unless they’re happy to have their arse on display

jellyminelli · 23/06/2023 20:33

Just shout "Total Eclipse" next time. She'll get the picture

I told a girl at the gym (quietly so nobody overheard) that you could see up her shorts (she had on these very loose, very short ones with no pants so she was flashing her bits on every rotation of the cross trainer). The cross trainers are on a slight platform above the rowers and weights so it really was right in the eyeline of anyone working out. She was glad I told her. I think I would have said something. I'd want someone to tell me.

How did she not know that though?!

XenoBitch · 23/06/2023 20:32

Pointless telling her, as she will already know and possibly wearing such a get up intentionally. It is worlds apart from having a skirt accidently hooked into knickers etc (that has happened to me when standing at the bar in a pub).

I once witnessed a man get a barrage of abuse when he pointed out that someone's ass crack was showing. Said ass crack was not that clean either

Tracker1234 · 23/06/2023 20:31

It’s rather like women wearing such see through leggings you can see every thing!

oakleaffy · 23/06/2023 20:31

Dibbydoos · 23/06/2023 20:23

There seems to be no sisterhood - tell her. If she's embarrassed fine but honestly it's a no brainer. Why would you let another woman expose herself? What world do you live and more than half of those commenting live on?!

Surely when one pairs a short skirt with a thong, one would know about the risks of bending over and exposing one’s derrière?

I’d definitely NOT tell someone “ My dear, your cheeks are showing “ in these circumstances.

A girl in a very flimsy long skirt bent down once in the street, and her bottom took a “ Bite” out of the thin fabric and held onto it.

A male friend I was with noticed. 🙄

A hitched up skirt in error I have mentioned
and have has people warn me, too , Eg If zip came undone on trousers) very grateful to them.

Floralnomad · 23/06/2023 20:30

YANBU , she knows . You only need to look at half the teenage girls going into school nowadays that are wearing belts instead of skirts and must be flashing their assets all day that that is obviously the way many people feel it’s appropriate to go out in public .

Nomorecoconutboosts · 23/06/2023 20:29

@Dibbydoos
can’t answer for the others but in terms of the world I live in…I live in a Midlands city, the type they often appears when we have unpleasant threads about the ‘worst’ places to live.

Members of the public are often drunk or stoned when going about their business, ‘anger management’ is a challenge to many of them. Looking at people ‘funny’ is risky; road rage is an every day occurrence.
Queuing in busy shops like B&M or Primark can be challenging if tempers are frayed and people are keen to take offence or create drama.

So in the situation described - adult with another adult, no vulnerability or learning disabilities etc mentioned I’d be very much inclined to keep my mouth shut. Perhaps if the lady was on her own, or a teenager rather than an adult, or clearly had a vision problem then I might consider it.

That's entirely different and cruel

If someone wears a short skirt and a thong, they are deliberately exposing themself. It's inappropriate and offensive (and unhygienic)
