Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

I never hover. Just sit down. Still alive to tell the tale.

Pushmepullu · 07/06/2023 09:55

Read that Apparently you are more likely to end up with a uti if you hover than from anything on a toilet seat, it’s because you don’t empty your bladder properly. I’m not sure if this is true as it would mean women in countries that have squatty toilets would have permanent utis

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 07/06/2023 09:53

Women shouldn't be allowed to use public toilets until they're toilet trained and can use a toilet correctly, which means sitting on it and not pissing all over the seat.

Are you a foot flusher too?

🤣🤣🤦‍♀️

WarmWinterSun · 07/06/2023 09:49

I have to sit because I’m really short and can only manage to hover if I do it on tiptoes which is pretty hard! If hovering is what causes dirty seats the. the guilty culprits need to stop

SinisterBumFacedCat · 07/06/2023 09:49

I always sit properly, the only time I hover is when using those dystopian seaside metal loos with no seat, because they are so cold!

Stalkedbyzombies · 07/06/2023 09:49

I don't touch the door stopper or the flush. I pull paper out and quickly throw it in the second after I have pressed the flush button.

wowie69 · 07/06/2023 09:48

Never hover unless it's a particularly grubby festival toilet or similar.

Moonlightsonatas · 07/06/2023 09:48

There’s significantly more risk of catching something from the door handle on the way out

Stalkedbyzombies · 07/06/2023 09:47

I wee-ly wee-ly dread growing old and no longer being able to hover.

HidingInAForest · 07/06/2023 09:47

Just what I was thinking - re chairs, restaurants etc.

It's a strange hang up people have and the few on here that have it seem proud of it!

I wonder if it harks back to generations ago when there was less understanding of germs? I know the whole Jim Crow laws made White people scared to sit on a loo a black person had used ( :( ) as if it was "dirty."

Also in the 80s with the fear of HIV and not knowing how it spread might be where some people's parents go the idea from.

But it really is a small minority that now have this hang up I would imagine.

Fandabedodgy · 07/06/2023 09:46

No I don't hover - I sit

Obv have no idea what others do

NeedANewPhone1 · 07/06/2023 07:59

I sit. The seat touches the back of my legs. I don't use this body part for eating or anything else and I cover it with clothing. I wash my clothing. I don't worry about germs from this scenario.

Same... If the seat looks like a hoverer has peed on it I'll either choose another loo or wipe it, otherwise I just sit.

Never understood hovering nor do I have the muscles to do it if I tried tbh

Vinvertebrate · 07/06/2023 09:45

I use loo seat covers and carry Dettol wipes but never knowingly hover….

Fighterofthenightman1 · 07/06/2023 09:28

I don't know how people hover without pee going everywhere

I am the opposite, I dont understand why some women cant aim. When thinking about it, possibly if they are shaved, then it tends to get a bit more messy.

Stalkedbyzombies · 07/06/2023 09:43

Once I hovered at airport arrivals (to avoid weeing in the plane toilets) and while weeing, I caught sight of something on the corner of by sight of vision. After I had finished, I realised that someone had deposited a large shit on the edge of the seat and I had been hovering a few cm away from it. I was relieved that I never had a leg cramp while hovering as I would have ended up in it.

Muhwanda · 07/06/2023 09:41

Question for the hoverers. If you’re wearing shorts or a skirt with bare legs, would you sit on a public seat / bench / chair with your skin touching it? Surely it’s exactly the same.

aintnospringchicken · 07/06/2023 09:40

I always hover and I've never splashed pee onto the seat.

Hayfeverjogon · 07/06/2023 09:39

I thought that Covid and all of the epidemiology chit chat would have taught us all how germ spreading actually works :/

Clearly not!

Stalkedbyzombies · 07/06/2023 09:39

You can put the seat up first guy-style 😆
However, if you are desperate for a wee, this can result in splashback unless you can control the flow and slow it down to a long tickle.
I always hover. My friend has a dodgy leg so she always sits and I always tell her how deeply sorry I feel for her. She teaches in a school and reports that the toilets are like something out of a horror film.

Cranfor · 07/06/2023 09:37

Do those that hover also hover over chairs in restaurants when wearing a short skirt?

I can’t see the logic of hovering. The higher you pee away from the toilet the greater the risk of splashback so you’re more likely to get pee on the backs of you thighs (and the seat). What can you catch from putting your thighs on a seat that has also had another person’s thighs on it?

BlowDryRat · 07/06/2023 09:36

No. I just plonk myself down. If there's a splash on the seat I'll wipe it first. I'm not particularly bothered about invisible germs on my bottom.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 07/06/2023 09:35

Hovering is bad. It means you don't relax your bladder and pelvic muscles properly so the bladder doesn't fully empty. Stale wee can lead to an infection.

I lift up the plastic seat and sit on the porcelain after giving it a once over with loo paper, or a wipe.

You can buy paper toilet seat covers, that are very cheap. And they just go down the loo when you've finished.

While you are all busy exhibiting your neuroses, you seem to have failed to notice that this is a "journalist" getting you to do their work for them. If you enjoy seeing yourself quoted in clickbait, please carry on.

CheshireCat1 · 07/06/2023 09:34

I just put tissue on the seat.
