Most women hoover above toilet seat in public toilets to pee?

I was out this weekend and had to use the toilet to pee. I normally hoover above toilet seat to pee in public toilets and was thinking to myself this is difficult especially if I need to do a long pee🙈😂 Is this what most women do too or am I being extra germ conscious and should just wipe the seat and sit down? Sorry if tmi but I'm just curious

I’m going to be seriously wondering the next time I’m in a long queue for a women’s toilet whether it’s because people are spending so much time doing anything other than sitting on the bloody toilet. Disinfecting, laying down toilet paper, hovering, wiping up after themselves. Madness.

You should wipe up after yourself. Especially if you're a hoverer.

You can't catch anything from a loo seat OP.

The toilet’s probably the cleanest part of the day.

https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-20324304

From the article:

His studies have found that on the average toilet seat there are 50 bacteria per square inch.

"It's one of the cleanest things you'll run across in terms of micro-organisms," he says. "It's our gold standard - there are not many things cleaner than a toilet seat when it comes to germs."

We should be more worried about other household items, it seems.

"Usually there are about 200 times more faecal bacteria on the average cutting board than on a toilet seat," he says...

In other words, a kitchen sponge is 200,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat, and a dishcloth is 20,000 times dirtier.

This is the same the world over.

To be fair, he's not talking about public toilets, but it's still interesting. Public toilet seats would of course be cleaner without hoverers.

Is the toilet seat really the dirtiest place in the home?

The toilet seat has acquired an unfair reputation as the dirtiest surface in the house. As scientists explain, there are far filthier places, some of them where we would least expect

If everyone sat on the seat, it wouldn’t be covered in piss!!

I always sit. Usually need to wipe the seat cos someone else has missed the bowl.

The worst public toilet I saw had dirty shoe prints on the actual seat!! Actual black marks of shoe tread clearly visible and they’d managed to shit down the lifted lid and back of the seat. Dirty bugger 😠 Toilet was totally unusable because someone decided to practice their gymnastics whilst taking a shit!!

It might have been someone who was more used to squat toilets. It's very very hard to defecate in a different position to the one you're used to.

No excuse for not cleaning it up, though!

I used to clean a pub while putting myself through university. I’ve had to clean up this sort of mess and I was dry heaving and hating my life the whole time.

If anyone is interested to know, women’s toilets are cleaner than mens, in my experience.

weirdas · 08/06/2023 05:04

Other vacuum cleaners are available

Catsmere · 08/06/2023 01:43

What are you doing OP, going to public loos with open wounds on your bum and legs? That’s the only way you’ll catch anything from a toilet seat. Just sit down so you aren’t splashing urine for other women to have to encounter.

(Love all the vacuuming related replies 😆😆😆.)

Kanaloa · 08/06/2023 01:36

I just sit on the toilet and pee. I do find people are ridiculously terrified of anything they perceive as ‘dirty’ when in fact humans are dirty. They kiss and have sex and pick their nose and pick up their dog’s shit and eat sausage rolls from Gregg’s that have been sat out all day under that glass and then they go into a public bathroom and sit on the toilet. The toilet’s probably the cleanest part of the day.

If there was any risk from using a toilet in the normal way then I wouldn’t use them. There is no risk. So I use them, as they are intended to be used, as in by sitting down on them and urinating.

sixthvestibule · 08/06/2023 01:33

I don’t hover because I’ve got my hands full holding up my trouser legs to protect them from the splashy mess hoverers have left on the floor.

CallieQ · 08/06/2023 01:16

I remove the loo seat, hoover it, disinfect it then replace and sit down Grin

Mmhmmn · 08/06/2023 00:53

No hovering here and I literally never have UTIs or anything. By hovering you're more likely to pee on seat (yuck) and not fully empty your bladder.

reddragon7 · 08/06/2023 00:44

reddragon7 · 08/06/2023 00:44

I’ve never been able to hover, cos how can you be so confident the person goes straight down, and doesn’t trickle down the side of your thighs??!!! I am not the most balanced person 😂 I always give the toilet seat a good wipe before and after using it anyway. I normally wet tissue and use a bit of hand-wash to clean it, then wipe it dry, so I can feel a little more comfortable sitting on the seat.

The pee* not the person goes straight down 😂

WhatALightbulbMoment · 07/06/2023 18:39

You do realise that only a fraction of wees are had on public toilets? It's not going to have much impact on the likelihood of UTIs, pelvic floor problems etc.

Perhaps you've heard tell of thing called the office? People at work have to pee; also, people out in restaurants, pubs, clubs, visiting others' houses. In any case, I am not a urologist or a urogynaecologist - just repeating what they say.

Isis1981uk · 07/06/2023 21:19

I've literally never hovered. I just don't think about, or care about, any possible toilet germs! Still here 🤣

ThursdayFreedom · 07/06/2023 21:17

Morestrangerthings · 07/06/2023 08:25

I have a thing about people not putting the lid down when they flush. Seriously, why do people flush with the lid up? It splashes tiny droplets about 6 feet. If you don’t close the lid and flush, chances are you are then wearing some of what is already in the toilet. You can’t see it, but it’s there.

@Morestrangerthings because I'm not touching any more of the public toilet than I absolutely have to (namely the flush)

PurpleAirGuitar · 07/06/2023 21:17

I've never done that in my entire adulthood (I think I might have done it when I was fairly little because I saw my mum doing it), and I don't normally wipe the seat either, only if it looks dirty. To the best of my knowledge I've never had any illness arising from these preferences.

Cherryblossom99 · 07/06/2023 21:11

I always sit properly, I already have bladder issues that lead to retention and incontinence and I know that hovering makes it more difficult to fully empty the bladder, increasing UTI risk.

DragonDoor · 07/06/2023 21:04

GoneAwayWorld · 07/06/2023 08:00

This.
I don't hover, I sit. I find it very upsetting when women who hover wee on the toilet seat and then don't clean it.
If everyone just sat it would be much more hygienic.

Exactly. Hoverers leave the seat a mess.

It actually makes me angry to see that some people have been too precious to sit on a toilet seat, yet don’t care about leaving it covered in pee for the next person coming in.

It’s disgusting

Agoodidea · 07/06/2023 21:03

NeedANewPhone1 · 07/06/2023 07:59

I sit. The seat touches the back of my legs. I don't use this body part for eating or anything else and I cover it with clothing. I wash my clothing. I don't worry about germs from this scenario.

Me too, hovering above the seat is almost as mad as hoovering the seat!

I used to do this until my Dyson got too unwieldy to lug round the shopping mall so now I just take a dustpan and brush instead.

🤣🤣🤣

Primrosefrill · 07/06/2023 09:30

I cannot believe how many people sit on a public toilet seat 🤮never in a million years would I do that.

I hover and always wipe the seat if needs be.

Why? What's going to happen if you sit on it? Absolutely nothing

DojaPhat · 07/06/2023 20:48

@FKATondelayo But that's not true... as this thread demonstrates Confused

BCBird · 07/06/2023 20:32

Plonk my lard arse on the seat. Need to.pee in comfort🤣
