@TedMullins Him not being a "real man" in my eyes is my opinion of him and I'm not going to change it. The vision of him dressed like that seriously disturbed me for a long time. In fact, it frightened me. I do have respect for other people, that's why I wouldn't shock a new partner or an old partner, by springing something like that on them without warning, like he did to me. A "real man" to me is someone who takes his partner's feelings into consideration and this selfish creep most certainly didn't do that.

The particular scenario you described does sound weird and offputting with him in his late wife’s underwear but I really take issue with the idea it makes him “not a real man”. What is a “real” man anyway? If we can agree that gender stereotypes are bad for women, does that not apply to men too? Like I’ve said many times, absolutely fine if you’re not into it. Nobody should do things they don’t want to do in the bedroom. But I don’t think it’s fair to cast aspersions on someone’s sexuality/personhood because they’re into something you’re not.

Personally I find people who are comfortable in themselves and their sexuality and not bound by gender stereotypes far more attractive than those who are threatened by anything that isn’t heteronormative, but I don’t go around calling people prudes or boring vanillas if they’re not into that. A bit of respect for people’s differences wouldn’t go amiss.

@ClumsyCat No, she died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage when she was out with her friend one night. I think it was just an excuse, as I think he just liked wearing women's underwear. He looked absolutely pathetic. I felt so sorry for his late wife, who had, apparently, only ever slept with him. If that's what she'd had to put up with and then the poor woman had died before she'd had chance to one day meet a real man.

In fact, I don't really like "sexy" underwear at all. About 30 years ago, partner bought me a basque and as my underwear is usually strictly functional it felt really strange and alien, and actually a bit insulting because it's so much wasn't me.

I've posted about this before but this has reminded me again (not a happy memory). Many years ago I was going out with a widower, he was only in his thirties so all very tragic. When I stayed over for the first time, I was horrified to find him laid on the bed wearing a bra and knickers. He tried to justify it by saying they were his poor late wife's and it made him feel closer to her, which I think actually made it even worse, it turned my stomach and I was out of there like a shot.
