Dalai llama ask a child to suck his tongue

Has anyone seen the new video of the Dalai Llama asking a child to suck his tongue. Yes. It sounds bizarre. But it is in the news right now. The video is out there. And the dalai llama is apologising on social media now

Im devastated! I went to see the Dalai Llama in India. He gave a speech on accepting and loving everyone, and that it didn't matter what religion we are. I always told people that it was one of the highlights of my life.

I went through life thinking he was a good person, that he was one of the good ones. To see this today, makes me think oh no is he yet another abuser.

Some people have remarked about this video that sticking your tongue out at someone is a greeting in Tibet.

However - the Dalai Llama kisses the child on the lips in the video, and asks the child to suck his tongue. It does not look right at all.

He has apologised on twitter now.

What do you all think?

@pickledandpuzzled
Right behind you.

GingerbreadBaking · 12/04/2023 11:07

Catholics call it out and let their institution be seen as it is, unlike others.

Some make bad jokes like this.

Catholics are also told by others to not discuss the male on male aspect, they are called phobes for making the unspoken link of who are the males doing this are!

What you are saying is that you are happy for the faraway culture to deal with it as they see fit and pass the buck onto the Indian authorities even though you know they are corrupt and won't hold the DL to account. Nor will the child get the psychological support that he needs, but out of sight, out of mind?
As long as you are doing a good job supporting British kids within a more robust safeguarding system then you can sleep well at night. That's fine

pickledandpuzzled · 12/04/2023 11:03

And I am a female, practicing Christian, know little about Buddhism, have no interest in the Dalai Lama, do endless amounts of safeguarding because of my employment and voluntary work, not because I'm a social worker. I was interested in the mechanism of managing a situation like this one, given the DL's position and context. The boy's needs are for me the obvious, assumed priority in this situation- and his welfare is not enhanced by the constant sharing are picking over of the video. The involvement of the police is a matter for the police in the place the incident occurred and where he lives, in the same way British child abuse tourists are a matter for the British police and the Thai police.
My safeguarding training due to previous employment, voluntary work, and current involvement with church has been eye opening and distressing. I am not inclined to view people in authority as above reproach, indeed the opposite. I've circumvented people in authority who weren't following appropriate safeguarding procedures. I'm thoroughly GC and disgusted by the ideology sweeping schools and affecting my immediate family.

But crack on with your enthusiastic creation of back stories to explain people who don't whole heartedly agree with you, and accuse them of being complicit, stupid, gullible, wilfully blind, racist and- oh yes a truly random extra accusation about gender ideologues.

Anyway, I'm off to work on actual effective day to day stuff that keeps people safe. I'll leave you keyboard warriors to carry on saving the world, one rant at a time.

That’s a lovely post. If they’re not sent here, then there is definitely something else here at play. And if not brainwashing, then some other factor that is causing such dogmatic defence of someone who has done a very bad thing.

Thank you. They didn't really need to bother because a potentially massive story has pretty much been suppressed in the mainstream media. there are clearly higher forces at work which makes me very wary of what is to come.

Sudeko · 12/04/2023 10:59

It appears to be the same thrill of doing it accidentally on purpose in a crowded group setting where there are cameras around. It is the thrill of not getting caught or testing the blindness of devotion by their zombie-like devotees.

The spiritual leader in my cult is the same. They are never satisfied with their large collection of toys. It is the thrill of trying to get one that doesn't come wrapped in fancy packaging and nobody was aware was up for sale (not least the 'toys' themselves).

Rather than trying to funnel a varied thread into a discussion of dementia, wouldn't it be better to start a dedicated thread in the relevant topic area after you had discussed it briefly on this one and let people discuss it more widely on this one?

The dementia discussion would have been very short if it had not been for the vigorous and repeated denials of it being a possibility from a place of ignorance regarding dementia, along with the accusations of excusing/defending the behaviour, being called pedophile apologists and enablers, the allegations of not caring about little BAME boys and so on directed towards everyone and anyone who has said they also think dementia is a possible cause of the incident.

If you & others had looked at the dementia possibility objectively and rationally, the thread would not have been as chaotic or as argumentative as it turned out to be.

I don’t think it’s a derail though, unlike the various side bar discussions of historic pedophiles and girl guides/queer theory.

MyopicBunny · 12/04/2023 10:58

I suspect that those banging on about dementia will have spent either time or money or both on their support of the DL and following him. And I understand that.

Nobody ever wants to find out that someone they held in high regard may actually be a dark person. But if it walks like a duck it usually is.

Sudeko · 12/04/2023 10:36

Through my direct, personal experience of a similar 'organization', the brainwashing takes care of that. Nobody would need to send you to do their bidding or pay you anything.

If anybody out there is a DL devotee and is afraid to leave, then I wish them the courage to do so. Many people (including myself) walked out largely unscathed by it all. The bond you feel towards him and to your smaller satellites are illusory.

People also raved about Saville. How wonderful his work was with charity etc... We only got fed one narrative about him from the media. He met and mingled with religious leaders, royalty, politicians. He raised millions for charity.

Exactly. Savile, a Catholic was of the opinion that his abuse of children and others was cancelled out by his charity work.

People have spoken of him saying that if he gets refused at the gates of heaven, he would tell St Peter that he has done enough good through charity work to cancel out the bad.

I expect that you claiming to be a non-follower on a technicality. There is no way that you would devote so much time to defending him if he was not fundamentally important to you.

What a few hours once in my life discussing (not defending) the Dalai Lama ? That’s nothing. I spend more time discussing gardening with friends every day.

L3ThirtySeven · 12/04/2023 10:49

Does anyone else find it amusing that there are accusations of “mansplaining” being flung about in response to comments by those with elder care and dementia experience?

82% of care home staff are women and 59% of unpaid at home carers are women. Women know dementia. We explain it to men.

The poster saying “mansplaining” has shown they don’t know anything about dementia. 🤔

ananass · 12/04/2023 10:48

L3ThirtySeven · 12/04/2023 10:27

You worded it as an accusation of conscious racism, not unconscious bias:
“You won't get an honest answer to that question. I also think the ethnicity of the victim is a factor. As it's a young Indian boy, he's collateral damage in the race for damage limitation.”

I’m willing to give you the benefit of doubt and say you have unconscious bias (as most people do).

But it’s a fact that in our society bame child victims, or missing bame children, are treated differently to white children.

I know. Joining the dots is kind of terrifying as it represents the consolidation of several claims.
When stories shift from conspiracy speculation to confirmable reality and there are still a mass of people trying to hold up that penny to stop it from dropping.

They are as bought off as people claimed earlier in the thread, happened in Indian police.

Bought off socially and via pension/salary, indoctrinated via the state religion of Diversity, inclusion, equality, intersectionality. The West's - social debit system - only applies to safeguarding when it's an individual woman at home, not those in the workplace.

L3ThirtySeven · 12/04/2023 10:43

I’m not a follower though and I don’t have any connection to the man, I certainly do not feel any “bond”.

I see an 87yr old religious leader that is losing his marbles and needs to retire.

I hope that reassures you in a way.

ChunkaMunkaBoomBoom · 12/04/2023 10:45

I really hope this isn't going to turn out to be like Jimmy Saville

Same with the male on male issue.

ChunkaMunkaBoomBoom · 12/04/2023 10:43

'Those men were not men of God, they were men that liked to hurt other males, especially Alter boys. '

Where did I say they were men of god? They were priests and bishops, cardinals - that's a fact.

@L3ThirtySeven

Did you bump your head this morning and forget?
😂On a thread preoccupied with dementia, this has tickled me.

@pickledandpuzzled

It's a waste of breath encouraging people to engage with what is actually being said, and use their brain.
All that collaborating and mansplaining! Maybe take some time out if this thread frustrates you and instead engage in the worthwhile practice of tolerance, acceptance and compassion?

In any case, your (plural) posting style is very telling!

The world won't forget this video in a hurry. No amount of damage control will erase the grotesque juxtaposition of one of the world's most revered religious leaders coercing a boy into unwanted intimate physical contact with an unsuspecting boy with bystanders clapping and laughing.

Ah, you see there are reports is quite different from saying daily reports.

You wouldn’t trust any links from me.
Have a search on Google and a read of the Wikipedia page on the Dalai Lama.
His bio and living situation are quite well known & frequently reported on.

So you acknowledge that there is no report for each day of the DL’s life? How can you categorically say who he has access to then?

Religions are full of sex offenders. Utterly disgraceful but no idea why it shocks anyone.

Anyone in a position of power is likely personality disordered, personality disordered people harm in various ways not just sexually. Obviously not everyone in leadership has a PD, just those who conduct interest in this area tell us it is more likely they are.

Ok, and no.
