It’s not an excuse. An MRI would show the areas of brain damage associated with the type of dementia a person would have. This isn’t something you can fake. It’s physical and as real as a broken bone or appendicitis.

I’ll never forgive them, including my parents who made me kiss old people who were strangers to me and sit on their laps, which I hated. At least I’ve been able to bring up my own kids to be able to say no and to not be people pleasers.

Dementia can cause people to act out sexually when it is inappropriate, including around children. I wouldn't call that pedophilia, I'd call it dementia.
