Anyone live in Worthing, West Sussex?

To be closer to our parents we are considering a move to worthing in West Sussex. We love about an hour away but are used to countryside!
What is Worthing like? I saw another thread about it and it had a few negative responses. Is this accurate? I want my children to be able to spend more time with grandparents!

Thank you.
I think we had pretty much decided (after a health scare for my Dad) that we really want to be nearer parents and Worthing whilst not the same town as them offers being a lot closer. Then I saw the other thread and panicked! People said they don’t feel safe going out after dark? It would be rare that we would as DC are small and we would have no one to babysit but don’t want to feel like this!
Any areas to avoid? DC are in reception and year 1 which is not a great time to move I know but we are trying to get the best long term outcome for them!

Yeses! Love it, especially in summer. Great schools, community, beaches, countryside, pubs/restaurants.

Better than Brighton

We live in a town about 30 minutes away

I think it's gentrifying quickly as lots of people who are priced out of Brighton move there.
The secondary schools I don't think are as good as many in Brighton or mid Sussex though.

Thank you. Is crime bad? That’s what the other thread seemed to talk about!

Not particularly I don't think, at least in my area. Brighton is far worse!!

It is what you make it really. Lots of people move here from Brighton as it is a lot cheaper, so it is gradually having more money pumped into it. I would say I find it a bit dull (in my 30s), BUT there is the beach, pier, lovely countryside nearby, and lots of young families as well as old people! If you have family here, spend some time checking it out to find which areas you like. There are lots of places I would rather live (in theory), but it's definitely not the worst by far.

This is officially the UK’s best seaside town to move to in 2023

Some have hailed it the ‘new Brighton’

It's not as bad as it used to be. I moved away 30 years ago then it was Heavens waiting room, that's now Eastbourne
