NHS interview if you're off sick with stress

I have applied for other jobs as I am not happy where I am - I have asked for support and a reduction in hours and I am being ignored - I have started to apply for other jobs.
In the meantime if I were to go off sick, how do I stand going for interviews?

Allowed by who? You are an adult now, you don't need permission.

Being off sick from one job is ideal cover for going to an interview.

References would be sought from my manager who would know Id gone for the interview whilst off sick
Can they give me a bad reference

What do you mean? Nobody at the NHS or your current job would know. Are you asking about what you’d tell the prospective employer? Or how you’d get off sick leave when you got a new job?
