Good morning. I am an idiot.

I have a godson whose mother is lovely but very religious and a bit uptight. It’s his 9th birthday today. Long story short I placed an Amazon order to be delivered to their house, and he’s just opened it and it turns out that alongside the nice gifts I sent him, I accidentally included something else that was in my basket….

His dad (my friend) has just rung me howling with laughter, but the wife is apparently not at all amused.

I know AIBU but this is a public service announcement to double check your basket when you’re sending things to someone else.

Jesus.

I know, it’s gone in a flash!!

I shall take to my granny pants with a pair of scissors, forthwith!

I'm very religious & would find this hilarious 😅 Though depending on what it was they may never look at you in quite the same way.

Hello. I had to dig this thread out as tonight I have been out with my friend (the dad) and I have found out my godson, now nearly 12, refers to me as Wankerwoman when his mother’s not in earshot.

I always wanted to be a superhero but not like this..

Yes, yes, yes! Thank you for the update, @Mañanarama - this was one of my favourite threads of 2023 (good god was Wankergate really nearly three years ago?!)

WankerWoman is a classic - she wears her crotchless panties on the outside and fights crime with her trusty Rabbit sidekick. The Vigilante Vibrator! 🦸‍♀️

I brought a little cloth bag back from Greece for my granddaughter. It had cartoon sheep on it, all folded up, both my friends bought them too for lightweight gifts.
I gave it to my granddaughter, when both the other grandparents were there, (as usual!) He was a very self righteous non drinker.
Unfortunately, once it was unfolded, it became obvious that the clearly labelled sheep were not all well behaved..pissed sheep was just one.

Because some religious people are very narrow minded nd would not have found it funny, maybe for her, he religion is the reason.

Mum needs a life! Priceless thanks for the giggles 😃

How long before a lazy "journalist" picks this up?

They did. Two days ago.

The hotel chocolat for those not quite posh enough

Objectionhearsayspeculation · 24/02/2023 13:25

If it helps you OP I might have did accidentally included a homemade valentine card for DH with paperwork for DDs sports coach. We aren't exactly the hearts and flowers type more the sarcasm and skull art type so clearly we can never go back

This thread reminds me of the time my husband had ordered books from Amazon that were for work. He was a health and safety officer in the area of food safety and hygiene. Unfortunately, Amazon muddled the order so that he received some fake lips and some other cheap beauty aids. We had quite a laugh imagining the face of the lady thinking she was going to receive her beauty products but instead getting books on such topics as botulism.

Very thoughtful of you but now I might need to google

Mamanyt · 24/02/2023 01:49

OH MY! I needed that laugh so badly. It is SO much something that might happen to me! IF I ever get to visit Great Britain, I should so love to have a cuppa with you. We'd probably get on very well, indeed!

She replied “it’s fine”. No kisses.

Clearly it is not fine.

Don't worry about the no kisses. None of my friends add kisses and nor do i. My next door neighbour is the only person I can think of who does.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 ooops! Excellent reminder to double check your basket. Charlie and the Chocolate factory suggestion was brilliant.

LoisLane66 · 23/02/2023 19:32

It's a bit unbelievable that you didn't notice anything amiss in the confirmation email from the seller or your payment method (bank PayPal etc)
You could have warned your friend, the boy's father, and it could have been removed before handing his son the gifts.

People open those amazon emails?

OP, I have had things turn up in a bigger order that I'd forgotten had ever been in my basket so I can see how easily it could happen! Glad the mum is coming round to see the funny side.

Silverbracken · 23/02/2023 22:23

That’s hilarious! I thought you’d sent him a dildo or something.

ladygindiva · 22/02/2023 14:01

Haha that's brilliant. Reminds me of when my lovely late nana accidentally bought an erotic novel for my 12yo dd; she'd got confused in the bookshop and thought it was part of the twilight series😂

This is fucking hilarious.
And she sounds very uptight indeed.

Mañanarama · 23/02/2023 21:34

I messaged the dad today and she has started to see the funny side, she was more embarrassed that her parents were there saying “oh how nice of Auntie Manana to send you presents” then that got pulled out of the parcel. I think I’ll avoid his grandparents for a few years.

Anyway, lesson learned for me, I will definitely double check my basket before ordering in future!

😂😂 this story gets better & better. I’ve got the image of a really uptight elderly couple so distressed the smelling salts had to be brought out

caringcarer · 23/02/2023 22:02

I sent my MiL a gift for her birthday last year and included dog flea treatment that was in my basket. She was not amused.
