To ask what age you stopped enjoying going “out out”

Just that really. I’m 29 and living in the city as a working professional. Up until the last 6 months or so, I guess you could say I’ve very much lived a ‘work hard, play hard’ sort of lifestyle involving a lot of socialising, drinking and late nights out. Over the past few months it’s as though a switch has been flipped and suddenly it’s just no fun anymore. The idea of a cosy night in, or a nice meal out with a couple of drinks and being back at home and in bed by 12pm is far more appealing!

The majority of my friends here in the city around my age are still very much in to the party way of life and are showing no signs of slowing down… so I wondered, when did the switch happen for you?!

Yeah, about 28-29. That said, I often sloped off at midnight anyway for a few slices of bread, some water with electrolytes and a good night’s sleep from around 21-22…so I merely talked a good game, rather than living it 😂. I’ve always fucking loved my bed. Rock on!

I'm 40 and love going out out. I partied hard when younger but prob only go out once a month/ every 2 months. I love a dance though not keen on proper night clubs anymore unless they're playing 90's music.

Ponoka7 · 04/01/2023 20:13

About 45, ten years ago. I like a good night in the pub, but like a pp I need a seat for part of the night. I still like festivals and good house parties.

EatYourVegetables · 04/01/2023 20:13

Never liked clubs / bars, always liked pubs. Have not changed this in decades.

Needmorelego · 04/01/2023 20:12

@HisNameWasMike I certainly don't feel superior in any way because I don't enjoy a night out.
It's just one of those things I don't like.
Some people enjoy it, some don't. Everyone is different.

tobee · 04/01/2023 20:12

I'm 54 and still love going out out! One of my favourite things to do is going into town on the tube, seeing all the people coming in from Heathrow on the Piccadilly Line, imagining what they make of London and what they're going to do here! Then I like to go to lively, bustling places, with plenty of noise. Really missed it during lockdown.

Have memories of going to the West End with my parents at night as a kid and loved it then too.

It's even better now I'm older and able to get an Uber home if I want to.

HisNameWasMike · 04/01/2023 20:07

Dunno, I'll let you know when it happens. 42 now, 43 this year. Go out every weekend. Don't get the weird superiority on MN about not enjoying a night out.

Spectre8 · 04/01/2023 20:05

40 and I still lgo to festivals and raves. Ill give up when my body gives up

dancinfeet · 04/01/2023 20:04

22 when I fell pregnant with my eldest.

TheaBrandt · 04/01/2023 20:02

48 and still love it. Great having a dance with your friends why would you stop?

OceanbreezeSun · 04/01/2023 20:00

Probably early 30s. I was still living in London & used to go out quite often with work, but over time found myself making excuses why I couldn’t go or I’d just go out for a few hours and sneak off.

I still enjoy a good wedding and the odd birthday night out, getting dressed up, the music & dancing, but I don’t enjoy drinking or that side of it. Drunk people are very loud & annoying when you’re sober.

OlleOskiFelle · 04/01/2023 19:51

I don't go to pubs or clubs but I go to a lot of gigs, I never drink though because I'd need to pee every 5 minutes and end up missing most of it!

TheLastDreamOfTheOak · 04/01/2023 19:49

40

Only boring people are bored!

Well aren't you a ray of fucking sunshine? Also it doesn't even make sense.

Everydaywheniwakeup · 04/01/2023 19:39

Am nearly 50. I love a gig or a sticky floored indie club and can dance all night. I'd rather go out for a proper night out (albeit less frequently than I used to) than sit drinking overpriced coffee in a cafe or shit prosecco in someone's living room.

Woodenheart33 · 04/01/2023 19:39

I never liked going out to pubs, clubs etc. I did it a few times, enough to know it wasn't for me. I've never been a drinker and hated being in smokey places when that was still allowed. I've always preferred second hand bookshops, cafe's, the cinema, concerts, art galleries, theatre, going for a meal than clubs and pubs. I remember being out when I was 18 wishing I was tucked up in bed with my book.

superdupernova · 04/01/2023 19:39

About 27/28. I was sick of it before I'd stopped. I had an epic 5 years of travelling from 18-24 so really was all partied out. I much prefer a quiet pub or long drink filled dinner.

Titsywoo · 04/01/2023 19:38

About 35. Now I prefer pubs and restaurants and sitting chatting not dancing. I have friends who still like a proper night out though (we are mid 40s).

Hoolihan · 04/01/2023 19:36

I still LOVE going out, I'm 48. Love dancing, drinking, sticky carpets, misadventure, just being out in the world. I can't do it as often as I used to though, don't get the time and can't take the pace! Probably have four or five really big nights a year (not inc festivals/holidays).

Newnamenewname109870 · 04/01/2023 19:35

About 25 but was done with crappy clubs earlier

NameIsBryceQuinlan · 04/01/2023 19:34

Late 20s. I partied hard from being a teen and living in London from 18.

Now early 30s I'd rather do a yoga relaxation event or have a nice treatment. I don't drink anymore and the idea of clubbing makes me go cold!

ArtandMath · 04/01/2023 19:34

About 24, when I met DH

Hangupsrus · 04/01/2023 19:32

In 43 and I'd say I got fed up about 5 years ago, maybe more, but I'd preferred day drinking prior to that anyway. Still like a drink in the house in my PJs, or a nice meal out and few drinks, but the thought of late nights stood in packed out bars and then having get home in the early hours fills me with dread and I've not had that sort of night out for around 5 years. When I think back, it was never that great and I had to be drunk to enjoy myself, so not sure it was ever really my thing in hindsight.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/01/2023 19:32

I can only go out out if there’s a seat.

Chanel05 · 04/01/2023 19:30

About 21. Went out out multiple times per week between 18-21 whilst at uni and with non uni friends. Overdid it and now as I'm in mid 30s couldn't think of anything worse than a night out out.
