I think that Dermot comes across as fake too.
Not a fan

Is that Dermot O'Leary? I was at a wrap party with a friend working on the Celeb Big Brother Mark Owen won 20 years ago. All the celebrities and the important people left early and I don't blame them for that. But Dermot O'Leary stayed till the bitter end and seemed really well liked by the production staff and technical crew as everyone got drunker and drunker. Until that night I thought he was a git but now I don't think he is.

Not sure if I can say the name but a met an Eastenders star over 30 years ago when he was an entertainer at a holiday camp. There's a photo of me ballroom dancing with him and he definitely had wandering hands. Not so bad with 16yo me but he tried it with my 14yo sister too. Everytime anyone mentions him my Mum calls him a dirty old man

David Walliams. On a flight back from a work trip, a colleague pointed him out, but I was too knackered to be interested. We landed, and once I had my luggage I made my way through to find my driver. I couldn't see a sign with my name on anywhere, so got my phone out to call to find out where they were. I had my phone up looking for the email with the contact info, and as I was doing that, David Walliams came up to me and asked me to stop taking photos of him! I could barely believe what I was hearing and just responded that I wasn't! He then demanded to see my photos, and I have no idea why except that I was quite taken aback, but I showed him. Not a single photo of the idiot. As he walked away, he yelled - stop taking photos of me - and I responded that I wasn't - and his companion then yelled at me saying that it looked like I was! I was sooo embarrassed by all of this - it felt like everyone was staring - and I had done nothing wrong except hold my phone in a way that a complete ego manic thought was directed at him! Needless to say, his books are banned in my house!

I'm sure I've posted this here before... but SIL's cousin dated David Walliams briefly for a while, he invited her out to his house in LA. She found out whilst she was there that she wasn't the only woman in his life and flew straight home.

He's a good 15 years older than her too.

SIL now doesn't have many nice things to say about David W.

Craig McLachlan. Wanker. The only shock anyone (with XX chromosomes) in the biz had when he was found guilty of sexual harrassment was that it took so fucking long. I can tell you he’s fucking talented, but he’s a creepy bellend and I made sure that I and anyone I knew were never alone with him and that didn’t even work.

@Fraaahnces He was found innocent of all charges, he was not found guilty at all.

PedantScorner · 24/10/2022 16:34

@Nanny0gg , I can picture the scenes before AHM-W was born with the M-Ws saying something that could be interpreted as not woke, and the Ms saying 'What chance is there that the baby will have ginger hair?'

I have never met Meghan
I have met Piers- he is very very mardy and a real celeb seeker (migrates to most famous person in the room)

Ha ha that doesn't surprise!

ManefesationofConciousness · 24/10/2022 15:49

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 24/10/2022 15:47

I think it's ridiculous to keep bringing up "Meghan Markle wouldn't be friends with Piers so he's being mardy". I've never met her, but I think many who have met her have said that she's difficult.

I always find the whole hatred of Megham Markle odd, no one who actually knows her has ever said a bad thing about her that I have read, only the opposite TBH. Only person is her dad who I find extremely uncomfortable to watch so not sure I can believe what he says. Only other person is Piers Morgan and has basically said its because she wouldn't be friends with him.

The press now prints stuff that has allegedly happened to do with the Royal family but no one has actually said anything there either. I am always arguing with my dad over her as he reads FB too much and truly believes everything on there.

I am really surprised to see Anton DB name crop up on here, I have met him loads of times and he is always lovely, he always remembers me even though it's fleeting meetings. I know people who have worked closely with him for years and say he's lovely.

Emotionalsupportviper · 24/10/2022 15:31

I have always heard that Julian Clary is a lovely person (and I so hope it's true).

I also don't get the MM hate. She can't be any worse than Andrew.

RookSoup · 24/10/2022 14:54

Whilst walking through the west end years ago, I spotted the actor Ken Stott. I politely went up to him and congratulated him on his Bafta nomination for his portrayal of Tony Hancock and told him how fantastic I thought it was. He was a little shy but very friendly, gracious and unassuming.

ManefesationofConciousness · 24/10/2022 13:29

Was in 1st on a Train (relevant)
Bob Gedolf was opposite with another man
Sat opposite them with a colleague for 2 hours- he knocking back the free booze.

Train stopped in London and I saw they had left their tickets on table. Barriers had just come in in last couple of weeks which we knew as I was regulars on the route (it was about 2009/10). We picked them up and followed them down the train on the way to get off and said something like excuse me- to get a barrage about no autographs and cant he just be left alone!

Pointed out that he had left his tickets and would need them. Think friend sort of apologised.

Total tit!

redthefraggle · 24/10/2022 13:09

Just asked dh about Justin Fletcher as he's worked with him on a number of occasions and he said he's absolutely lovely!

Prunella Scales, Timothy West, Simon Callow, Hairy Bikers, Will Young, Jane McDonald, Darcy Bussell are also up there as being lovely but he says without a doubt the best person he's ever worked with is Tony Hadley; really down to earth, great fun and spends loads of time with his fans. Dh can't speak highly enough of him.

Rhona Cameron on the other hand, total arsehole.

I worked with Su Pollard for quite a while and can confirm she is as batty as they come but really kind and friendly. What you see on TV is exactly what she's like irl. She was really lovely to my mum too, invited her to a party she was hosting.

Pete Postlethwaite was an absolute diamond. I managed to slightly insult him when I was first introduced as I was rather awestruck but he just laughed, gentle ribbed me over it while we worked together and invited me out for lunch. I was very upset when he died.

Will Young was a friend of a friend at uni and was a nice guy.
Alan Titchmarsh smiles at everyone and does some things locally for charity.
I’ve seen Alastair Stewart a few times at our local train station or grabbing a coffee before the train, he gives off do not disturb vibes! I’ve never see anyone approach him!

Alan Titchmarsh was really nice when I met him. He was handing out awards at a graduation ceremony I was at. I expected him to be smug and pompous as that's how he seems on telly, but he was really pleasant and chatty, and quite happy to talk to everyone.
That'll teach me to make snap judgements.

Met Tony Robinson decades ago. He was pleasant enough, but in a hurry to get home (after filming Who Dares Wins). Rory McGrath gave off a bit of a sleazy vibe, but didn't do or say anything inappropriate. Julia Hills and Philip Pope were nice too.

CulturePigeon · 24/10/2022 12:55

Just to add my two-pennyworth to the DA controversy!

I am so glad that, on the balance of evidence, it seems very unlikely that St David was rude and boorish at the RA. I have heard lots about him over the years, and all of it has been good.

I would also hope it wasn't his brother Richard. Again, I know people who knew him and he was always a sweetie, if not a darling.

Of course, we can never know for certain, but I find it very difficult to believe that these two high-achieving and well-brought up brothers would behave in such a cheap and tacky way - apart from anything else, risking their high reputations. So that's what I'm going to believe!!

It's so easy for these stories to get around and sometimes people are mistaken - they get names etc confused. Someone once told me a long story about Jeremy Clarkson, which amazed me (he was apparently very quiet, modest, humble and incredibly interested in his daughter's violin studies). It was only by chance that the person suddenly realised they meant Jeremy Paxman!!!

Georgeskitchen · 24/10/2022 12:47

I Don really think anyone can complain that a celebrity has been rude to them , if they've been accosted while going about their private business.
Different though if a celebrity being paid to appear at an event and being rude to their fans. They Will probably find they have a lot less fans if they behave in such a manner 😀🤣

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/10/2022 21:14

I am convinced that the best reply to "Do you know who I am?" is still "No. Do you?"

The best reply I've heard of is 'Hey lads, this chap doesn't know who he is'.

SundownOnTheStair · 23/10/2022 23:32

I see someone has already drawn attention to this but please don't name the Duchess of Sussex on this type of thread because, as most of us realise, negative comments about her are always inspired by a fundamental racism.

Wow! Sweeping generalisation!
Is it not permitted to dislike her then?

Ohhhhh get a grip 😂

If you think it's ok to publicly shame a woman for wearing make up to the gym and talking in her own voice then it's you that needs to get a grip.

Like all these PA stories, probably not true. I’m sure even admirals, captains, whoever, have enough sense to know their place.

In the military, its military and not royal rank that counts.

"Know their place" 🙄

jetadore · 24/10/2022 11:52

YouOKHun · 23/10/2022 23:34

That reminds me of what I am sure in an urban myth but sounds pretty likely.

Early on in his naval career PA bowls up to a VERY senior naval officer and sticking out his hand says “hi I’m Prince Andrew but you can call me Andrew”. The admiral looked him up and down, straight faced and keeping his hands by his side said firmly, “I’m Admiral [name] but you can call me Sir” and he and his senior entourage turned and walked away leaving him standing there like a lemon holding his hand out while others concealed their amusement. I hope it’s true.

DP has worked with Alastair Stewart and can confirm he is a good guy. My DM also met him via DP. She'd always thought he looked a bit scary and intimidating and was blown away by how friendly, charming and gracious he was to her. This was a few years ago but she still talks about him as though they are best friends!

Robert Plant. Havana Airport. Late 90s. Tried to throw me out of the first class queue, do you know who I am? Grim.
