@LizzieVereker Could someone just give a brief synopsis of the Mr Tumble car exhaust thing is please? I’m somewhere where I can read threads but it would not be appropriate to Google videos 😂

😳All I can say is that he's doing something to a Range Rover that I thought was physically impossible.....

Chicheguevara · 23/10/2022 20:33

I met Joe Wicks earlier this year. After doing a big PE live workout with him, I joined the meet and greet queue. He had been meeting and greeting for over 2 hours buy the time that I got to the front. He was lovely and charming, signed my book and was generally wonderful. He had people to take pics with our phones, he hugged everyone and seemed genuinely interested in us ‘Leanies’ as many of the 90 days challengers and app users refer to themselves.

I met Princess Anne, back in my eventing days. She was such a nice person, very friendly. I met her couple of times with Riding for the Disabled too. She had time for everyone.
I have met a few vile celebrities too but they have been pretty much covered here.

My husband and I met David Bellamy at a garden centre promotion.

He was a charming chap and very knowledgeable.

I met him as a child- it was filming something- and he took us home to meet his wife. I don't think that was meant to happen

John Noakes and Shep were there
(it wasn't a dream- I have autographs from the day)

I had a totally different experience of Rowan - he was in my taxi a few years ago, was a funny character and brought me a sandwich lol

Year ago he used to stay at a small local hotel with his family- a really odd family run type hotel. The staff all loved him and the children at school used to get so excited when he was staying.

Cloudyrainydays · 23/10/2022 20:22

Sean Wilson absolutely lovely

Peabrain12 · 23/10/2022 20:22

Roald Dahl told my husband “bugger off I’m busy” at a film premier. My husband was 9.

shame as we enjoy his books in our house.

Or maybe they meant Dr Brian Cox ...................goes off to muse ...

Brain Cox seems to think he knows me
He always breaks into a big smile and says hello
I have never met him but did have a phase of seeing him a lot (usually at a train station)

RunningChaos · 23/10/2022 20:17

Simon Mayo- I use to work in a hotel, he was arrogant, self obsessed and thought everything revolved around him, no manners in sight. Lily Allen, teenage me adored her, met her at the same hotel and was horrified (should of guessed). Whereas Richard Curtis, Emma Frued and Kirstie Allsop were lovely. My all time favourite though is Jake Humphrey and his family... so beyond kind, friendly and approachable.

Kidsx6 · 23/10/2022 20:15

@YouOKHun He was awfully condescending and rude. This was in the North of England and he appeared to think he was better than everyone. Might have been a bad day but they weren't allowed back

Badbadbunny · 23/10/2022 20:11

Noel Edmonds is another awful sleb. Dealt with him twice, once when he was setting up one of his "Crinkly Bottom" theme parks and again with one of his "Garden Parties" day attraction. He was definitely an arrogant "don't you know how famous and important I am" type of person who could switch between his public "nice guy" image to his real self instantaneously.

By contrast, the kindest, nicest, most genuine sleb I've ever met was Olivia Newton John (RIP). I've never heard anyone say a bad thing about her. If anything she was nicer in real life than on screen! I met her in some public toilets in a shopping centre early 80s at the height of her fame/career. I came out of a cubicle and she was there, stood at the basin touching up her make up in the mirror. I looked at her and thought "no, can't be", she saw me staring at her and gave me a lovely smile, then turned around and started chatting. I was a tongue-tied shy teenager and was struck dumb. She started asking me questions to get me talking, i.e. what I'd bought, for what occasion, etc., and I dumbly nodded and answered as best I could. She told me where she was performing, what she'd been shopping for, etc. I asked for her autograph and then realised I didn't have paper nor a pen - she handed me her PA's card (Dana I think her name was) and told me to give her a ring or write to ask for a signed photo. Needless to say I wrote a nice letter the next day, but didn't have high hopes that she'd reply (I'd written to other pop/film icons of the time and didn't get replies). Within a week or two (it was to/from Los Angeles after all), I got a small packet in the post with a couple of signed posters, a small signed photo and a hand written personal letter from Livi herself saying it was nice to have met me, saying she'd hoped I'd enjoyed the party (which is what I'd told her I was shopping for) and telling me to contact Dana if I ever went to one of her concerts and she'd get me a pass to meet her backstage. Sadly, I never did go to a concert which is one of my lifelong regrets.

To the poster saying the PR was vile, trust me when i say that vile celebs hide behind their (usually perfectly nice) PRs and make out they're the cunts, while behaving impeccably in public themselves then berating the poor PR. I worked for a very high profile celeb who had form for this. Still does it now. And for the Mr Tumble haters, do not google mr tumble car exhaust. Definitely do not.

Oh my god ! My eyes are bleeding !!!! What the actual effing hell

That is enough internet for me today , I need to go and repent

I shall never be able to read to my Grandchildren again

Don't know how true it is but back in the day when we socialised with naval officers we were told that when Andrew joined his first ship he said to the Captain You can call me Sir to which the Captain replied No, Lieutenent, you call me Sir on my ship.

My grandad, who loves everyone, was in the Navy with PA and said he was an absolute arrogant twat and universally disliked. Will have to ask him if he thinks the story is true!

CPL593H · 23/10/2022 19:57

My DHs family were friends of the Attenboroughs, MANY years ago. All I could get out of DH was that he disliked most of them (he was young) David an "arrogant arse" but "Dickie was alright". Perhaps they were, perhaps they weren't but chance meetings with people are not the same as actually knowing them.

Making people into National Household Gods seems rather strange and a bit unfair on them, TBH. No one is perfect.

JustJustWhy · 23/10/2022 19:55

Runmybathforme · 23/10/2022 19:19

I think OP's story must be about David's brother , Richard.

Cancel the cheque.

piffle123 · 23/10/2022 19:54

Many years ago Jamie Oliver was doing some sort of promo at our local Sainsbury's. I happened to be walking passed as he was having final photos taken outside with some staff.
He put his arm round a older woman, had the photo taken then screamed "get away from me you'll give me The Clap!"
He obviously thought he was being funny but the poor woman looked mortified.
Right there I thought what a twat Hmm

LaMigraine · 23/10/2022 17:01

Haha, love everyone saying that it just isn't possible David Attenborough could be rude, as though he's some kind of latter-day saint! I worked in a bookshop many years ago and he came to buy some books and was very grumpy indeed. I expect he was having an off day, as we all do, not that he is a terrible person. I don't believe that any more than I believe that he's never rude and always perfect 😆

Are you SURE you mean David Attenbourgh? Not David Essex? Or David Dickinson? It’s definitely David Dickinson because I know all these David’s personally and he’s the one who reads books, David Attenborough is a literal saint and is always amenable and kind and anyone else who says otherwise is just wrong wrong wrong and NOT MAKING SENSE 🤣

Bobby80 · 23/10/2022 19:46

I felt the need to add balance to the earlier David Attenborough story!

I met him in Glasgow and he couldn’t have been nicer. He was walking down one of the main shopping streets, I stopped him and gushed about how wonderful I thought he was. Then I remembered his book has just launched so asked if he wasn’t in a hurry would he be able to wait 5 mins so I could buy a copy for him to sign (we were across from Waterstones). He laughed and said that was no problem, waited for me, signed my book and wished me well. Couldn’t have been nicer. A true gentlemen.

jennakong · 23/10/2022 19:41

Brother was also in the forces with Andrew. As other posters have observed, was regarded as a pompous twat and his nickname was 'Pinhead'. It was widely accepted that the lift did not go to the top floor.

Princess Anne on the other hand was very highly regarded in the services, and the Queen and Charles respected.

ViVi77 · 23/10/2022 19:37

I feel exactly the same. 😄

Absolutely REPULSIVE. Never has anyone had such a fitting surname. The stuff of nightmares this one.

Why was his surname fitting?

SaVILE - get it?
