Would you vote conservative again?

I wouldn’t vote conservative again after the total shambles that have been the last 12 years. They’re constantly infighting rather than sorting out the economy and have left the NHS in a total mess. No care for people suffering from the cost of living crisis

It's terribly depressing but I'll vote for the only party against self ID and that's the Tories

I doubt if committed Conservative supporters find it depressing at all.

DeborahVance · 22/10/2022 12:03

@RedAppleGirl you were right to check - NHS spend has gone up since I last googled, but my point is that no way is £70billion being spent on incompetent staff (whatever that means) as it's a huge proportion of NHS spend even at £150billion

So I agree with you, it's important to get facts right

roarfeckingroarr · 22/10/2022 12:01

@BIWI you're mistaking what TM meant by that. She said "we don't want to be the nasty party" as in perceptions - the optics.

Pah. Just vote Lib Dem, as they now inhabit the middle ground without being infiltrated by extremists. Both Conservative and Labour parties are being pulled apart by factions to the left, right and middle of their old ground - they have no consistent, logical ideology any more, so rapidly descend into infighting even when given a chance of power. Also, campaign against 2-party, first past the post politics, because that system is imploding in both the UK and US.

Regardless, western capitalism is collapsing under the weight of its own short-sighted greed. Power and wealth is held in private hands, not in the hands of democratic countries, yet people still bizarrely wonder why the low tax, small state regimes they hanker after appear to be falling apart (because they expect to keep their profits to themselves, but simultaneously expect the state to provide the infrastructure they need, and healthy, educated workforces to exploit).

Labour members want and voted for a change of policy to proportional representation at the party conference. If Labour, as I suspect they might well, end up having to talk to the Liberal democrats about cooperation then the Lib Dems will rightly want another referendum. I would vote for PR in a heartbeat. Our political system is broken.

The mess this country is in is 100% the fault of the Tory Government - they have been in office 12 years!

I would point out that the Secretaries of State for Energy, 2010 - 2015 were both Liberal Democrats.

I would point out that 2010-15 was 7-12 years ago.

Avrenim · 22/10/2022 11:58

No matter how much actual evidence of the venality, vanity, greed, pathological materialism, and utter contempt for almost everyone Tory voters are shown of their heroes' sheer evil, I've learned from experience not to even attempt to challenge their brainwashed Stockholm syndrome views. Even if Boris and co ate a baby on live TV (thank you Jonathan Swift) so many Tories still gonna Tory.

I don't think Labour are the best thing since sliced bread and I'm not a huge fan of Starmer. But until some broad centrist left alliance is created and FPTP ditched forever, they're the best chance we've got.

MayThe4th · 22/10/2022 11:56

Labour have plenty of policies - they won't give details of manifesto promises till nearer an election as the tories nick the popular ones. what a load of bollocks.

So they don’t tell us what their policies are because the conservatives will nick them? If you actually believe that you’re deluded. If those policies are out there somewhere then they’re ripe for the picking or do you think that the tori party can’t find out what the policies are even though you apparently can? Get real.

If labour want to be taken seriously then they need to start talking publicly about what they will do, not griping about what the government shouldn’t be doing. Keir Starmer looks like a complete incompetent at the moment who doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing.

You can’t expect people to take the Labour Party seriously if they tell you that twitter holds the answers.

Yes, because I'm right wing and no one else represents my views. Labour are too socialist and woke for me and the smaller parties, while interesting, don't stand a chance.

This. This is why the Tories get in and no matter what they do, they always stand a chance of getting in. It's why Brexit got through. This country is fundamentally right wing.

ilovesooty · 22/10/2022 11:35

I believe that Johnson has been orchestrating his return from the moment he resigned and others have enabled that process.

How anybody thinks they can unite and govern the country when they cannot even unite and govern their own MP’s just defies belief!
Lammy a racist? Wasn’t it Johnson who talked about watermelon smiles and women as letterboxes?

Forfrigz · 22/10/2022 11:33

The only government that ever makes sense is a more socialist one. There's no point giving money to people who are inherently greedy. Why give your taxes to people who have no intent to use hem to improve the country? Literally no point. Those of you who voted for this absolute farce of a government rather than government your head a wobble please slam it repeatedly onto a hard surface

RosieBQ · 22/10/2022 11:32

I dread the prospect of a general election at this point. I usually vote Tory because labour are just so far from my personal beliefs. The antisemitism, gender views (erasing of women and their safety), the blind support of strike action under any circumstances. But things are so bad right now how could I vote for the tories again? I think the economy was mostly trashed by covid then the war came along to cement the disaster so not really government’s fault. No government would have known how to handle covid and they mostly did what the majority of other countries did. So I don’t absolutely detest them but I am angry about the infighting and backstabbing that led to Boris’ resignation at the worst possible point in time for this country which led us to the Truss disaster. They’ve screwed themselves over. Rishi was a huge part of that so I certainly don’t think I could vote for him.

hay5689 · 22/10/2022 11:31

I've voted Conservative and labour in the past and have no loyalty to any particular party. Tbh I don't understand why either party would want to be in government right now, it's safer to be on the opposite benches given the mess the world is in.

The NHS will never get better no matter who wins because the model it was designed on doesn't exist anymore. The population is higher, we are living longer, certain illnesses such as cancer and heart disease are higher, they didn't have things like IVF and gender reassignment to factor in (I'm not saying we shouldn't have these things before anyone starts I'm just pointing out the difference). The whole country has changed now and the NHS is still stuck in 1948.

I'm really amazed that people still believe that stuff about the "no money left" note.

You have to believe a lot of old cobblers to support the Tories nowadays. All that Brexit guff about sunlit uplands for starters. We are now living in those uplands. Wonderful isn't it?

YouMadeABear · 22/10/2022 11:29

Labour want to erase hard won women’s sex-based rights so they will not get my vote.

Same. We have a labour MP atm but it's not a safe seat.

Stripyhoglets1 · 22/10/2022 11:28

@FixundFoxi Thats how I feel tbh.
I post on here but I know it won't make a difference. Nor in real life - so I don't bother now. I point out what I feel was better undet labour and leave it at that. I don't understand why anyone who was against brexit would vote tory though - but they seem to be able to forgive that more easily than anything labour have ever done/said - even if it was years ago and no longer relevant!

Labour did not ever need to start clowning over gender ideology. They should have stuck to the serious issues of the day and left all that to the Lib Dems.

Such a shame I agree. It’s not required but they don’t seem keen to drop it.

They wouldn’t have had to if the tories had managed the debate at its inception - during their Twelve years in power.

Unlikely, the entire annual budget for the NHS is around £100bn Hmm

Incorrect information.
Total spend on health and social care is £200 billion.
The NHS spend was £136-150 billion.
Kings fund.
Posters mention critical thinking. Can we start by stating correct figures and not implicating the Tories in situations that have absolutely nothing to do with government policies.
Reading the thread and others it's clear most people cannot even assess or articulate accurately the world around them.

ButIamBatman · 22/10/2022 11:22

I've never voted for them because in my lifetime they have only caused damage to the country. Labour are not great but do less damage so they get my vote. It's a shame we've become a two party system where neither party is good.
