Would you vote conservative again?

I wouldn’t vote conservative again after the total shambles that have been the last 12 years. They’re constantly infighting rather than sorting out the economy and have left the NHS in a total mess. No care for people suffering from the cost of living crisis

Would never vote labour so would vote tactically to keep them out. So yes I would - even though the last few months have been woeful.

Last 12 years

FixundFoxi · 22/10/2022 19:23

@roarfeckingroarr so you know that most tory MPs voted against or abstained on a vote to allow buffer zones around abortion clinics recently ? Something that affects possibly millions of ordinary women ?

Cornettoninja · 22/10/2022 16:48

Because the tories are corrupt, splintered, inept and devoid of any talent.

That instantly makes 90% of any the other parties better than them.

I agree @Cornettoninja . I was wondering why the pp said they would vote conservative because they were better than Labour.

Those of us with mortgages are soon to get hundreds of reasons a month not to vote Conservative again aren't we? Unless we've remortgaged already and already have to find hundreds of pounds extra every month because of them.

This is very true… My partner and I can just about afford our mortgage, sadly I don’t think we will be able to be home owners for long due to the costs of the mortgage rising, bills rising, (we can’t even afford central heating this year!). I look at the future with uncertainty and fear.

I generally don’t understand people who vote for tories, especially when they are struggling like I am… It just blows my mind how determined people are to vote for them. I genuinely think they could murder someone in broad daylight and people would still vote them in. How many people are going to die this year because they can’t afford to heat their houses?

I haven’t even bothered signing that petition to bring an election in sooner, because that’s how little faith I have in the British general public to actually vote for change…

Also those suggesting voting in Lib Dems might as well be voting in conservatives… Remember what happened last time last time they got the majority of the vote? (Conservatives took over, and Nick Cleg was never heard from again)

If your not voting Labour, then you are voting conservative.

Yes Labour isn’t perfect, but what party is. The way I see it, it’s not a popularity test, I’m not voting for the person I like more,
or the party I like more, or the most charismatic. I’m voting for the party who is most likely going to improve my living situation. (THIS IS NOT CONSERVATIVES!)

My hope is that by the time the next general election comes around people will see sense (although I have little faith this will actually happen 🙄)

I would love to know how exactly the Tories are better than Labour right now but you're not allowed to use the words woke or lefties.

Labour have plenty of policies - they won't give details of manifesto promises till nearer an election as the tories nick the popular ones. what a load of bollocks.

So they don’t tell us what their policies are because the conservatives will nick them? If you actually believe that you’re deluded. If those policies are out there somewhere then they’re ripe for the picking or do you think that the tori party can’t find out what the policies are even though you apparently can? Get real.

If labour want to be taken seriously then they need to start talking publicly about what they will do, not griping about what the government shouldn’t be doing. Keir Starmer looks like a complete incompetent at the moment who doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing.

You can’t expect people to take the Labour Party seriously if they tell you that twitter holds the answers.

Go and look at the Labour website.
Go listen to interviews with labour politicians.
Follow them on social media.
Don't just say its bollocks because its not in majority of newspapers.

It is all out there and becoming more detailed as we get closer to the next election.

When I say torys nick the ideas I mean things like the windfall tax. Definitely weren't going to do it - then they decided they when they realised people agreed with labour.

Muminabun · 22/10/2022 15:45

Yes. Better than Labour despite being shambolic. The left is now far left and I don’t like identity politics or socialism.

Grapewrath · 22/10/2022 15:18

Never have, now absolutely never will. Embarrassing.

ilovesooty · 22/10/2022 15:09

roarfeckingroarr · 22/10/2022 15:01

@ilovesooty oh we do. I've been a party member most of my life. I've voted for them every time. All my friends are similarly depressed at the absolute state of affairs.

I'm sure you would be voting for them again anyway, regardless of self ID issues and regardless of their performance over the last 12 years.

Mammyloveswine · 22/10/2022 13:43

I mean I'm a card carrying member of the Labour Party so have never and would never vote for the tories

SofiaSoFar · 22/10/2022 13:38

What's your AIBU?

Cornettoninja · 22/10/2022 13:37

I'm against self ID but it's just one issue and the Tories are literally destroying the country. It's not worth the damage and they will likely change their tune at some point anyway as that's what they do.

Do they actually have an ‘official tune’? You’d think you’d have evidence of something tangible if the party in power was against self ID.

KimberleyClark · 22/10/2022 13:36

No. Never have.

neverbeenskiing · 22/10/2022 13:35

UWhatNow · 22/10/2022 10:14

Labour want to erase hard won women’s sex-based rights so they will not get my vote.

If you think the Tories give a shiny shit about women's rights you're incredibly naive.

ButIamBatman · 22/10/2022 13:28

roarfeckingroarr · 22/10/2022 12:00

It's terribly depressing but I'll vote for the only party against self ID and that's the Tories

GreatHonkingPudding · 22/10/2022 10:55

Some voters do that.

Some voters just "vote blue"

And some just "vote red". It works both ways

dollybird · 22/10/2022 13:08

Effic · 22/10/2022 10:47

Depends on my opinion of the relative merits of the manifesto at the time and the character and composition of the opposing parties.
It’s interesting that people on this thread are questioning why some posters would state they would “never vote Labour” whilst stating they would never vote conservative?

At the end of the last Labour Gov, the incumbents had crippled the NHS and education sector with billions of pounds of PFI debt that is still in place today, introduced working tax credit which has made the uk one of the lowest wage & subsequently lowest growth economies in Europe (& ironically reduced the power of the unions!) allowing business to be permanently subsidized by the state, decimated education with their ideological nonsense around SEND & inclusion leading to the closure of 100’s of special schools and taken the country into an illegal war the ramifications of which are still felt today. I could go on but I won’t.

But that was then …. The current Labour Party have a different manifesto, different character and different people so to say “I’ll never vote Labour again” based on what happened last time is equally as idiotic as saying “I’ll never vote conservative again” after this shower of shit.

British politics would be infinitely improved if the general public was taught to actually think and critically evaluate rather than endless repetition of stereotypical partisan nonsense. if your vote can never be changed, then you are the problem not the solution.

BIWI
Oh hello Tory party bot!

I bet you were surprised by the 2019 election result? Didn't see it coming with all the Tory bots on Mumsnet?

The headlines were daily, crisis, crisis, crisis

They should be now because it is, but this illustrates the medias role in influencing public opinion.

BIWI · 22/10/2022 12:47

roarfeckingroarr · 22/10/2022 12:01

@BIWI you're mistaking what TM meant by that. She said "we don't want to be the nasty party" as in perceptions - the optics.

@roarfeckingroarr

This is what she said:

There's a lot we need to do in this party of ours. Our base is too narrow and so, occasionally, are our sympathies. You know what some people call us - the nasty party

From this speech

Where she also said this, acknowledging why this was being said about the party:

But the Conservative party, its principles, its people, have been let down in recent years by the failure of some to represent faithfully the best in Conservatism

Some Tories have tried to make political capital by demonising minorities instead of showing confidence in all the citizens of our country

Some Tories have indulged themselves in petty feuding or personal sniping instead of getting behind a leader who is doing an enormous amount to change a party which has suffered two massive landslide defeats

And throughout this week never forget this fact. Twice we went to the country unchanged, unrepentant, just plain unattractive. And twice we got slaughtered. Soldiering on to the next election without radical, fundamental change is simply not an option

Yes, she was talking about the optics - but also pointing out that this was currently the reality for the Tories.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 22/10/2022 12:44

@KangarooKenny

I completely agree.
The NHS was absolutely dire at the tail end of Blair's government. People have short memories but I will never forget the carnage I faced trying to prepare for the birth of my child with child birth fear and one hospital with closing doors, and the other dangerously understaffed with women left to birth alone, injected with the wrong drug's etc.

The headlines were daily, crisis, crisis, crisis and this was just before the financial collapse so what was the excuse?

itsgettingweird · 22/10/2022 12:39

I have always voted for the party who's manifesto most closely matches my beliefs and what I think will be best for the country.

I'm a centrist voter and slightly right and left on different policies.

However I couldn't bring myself to vote Tory again after the past 12 years. Especially the last 2 of those.

So far I'm liking what Starmer has to say.

And for the first time since probably the 80's my Tory stronghold seat is predicted to lose to Labour.

Which I'm thrilled about because we have Braverman as an MP!
