School Trip to Morocco

My DDs secondary school have just announced they will be doing a school trip in the next school year to Morocco for my daughters year.

It’s normally Iceland but they have changed it to Morocco this time.

A couple of other mums have said they won’t be sending their kids as they don’t think it’s safe to send their teen girls there.

Iv never been personally but I thought it was a safe country overall.

However, now I’m doubting myself …. I was going to agree to her going even though i think it’s steep as it’s over £1,000.

So…

YABU - It’s safe, don’t worry about it.
YANBU - I would never send my teen child there on a school trip.

Ridiculous cost.

  1. I have been to Morocco.
  2. What subject is the trip for?
  3. Which year group(s)?
  4. How long for?
  5. £1000 is far too expensive imho for a school trip. Unless it's skiing, which I doubt it is.

Whether I said yes or no would depend somewhat on yhe answers to the above and whether my dd wanted to go.

Does your dd want to go?

Geography I think, 5 nights and year 8.

She did until her school friend she isn’t allowed to go as it’s not safe.

YANBU.

Tbh I'd have worried about my DD's having a few nights in Cleethorpes, lol, so maybe I'm not the right person to reply! But £1,000.. ouch..

Hiking in the Atlas Mountains - yes
Sexual assault in the Medina - fuck no

I think Morocco is a shithole personally so I wouldn’t drop a grand on it - plenty of nicer places to go.

The schools been asked why Morocco but haven’t replied yet.

Itinerary is along the lines of this..

2 nights in Marrakesh
2 nights in Ourzazate
1 night in a camping in the desert with camel rides etc

Is it a World Challenge/Duke of Edinburgh style adventure trip with trekking/hiking etc?

I agree. Very strange choice. What’s the itinerary like?

OperaStation · 17/10/2022 19:04

It’s an odd choice. Far more difficult to keen a load of kids safe in Morocco vs Iceland. Have they said why they have chosen it?

Oopsiedaisyy · 17/10/2022 19:03

Depends where they are going, Marrakesh is very western in its approach to female tourists and had no issues travelling alone
