Porn culture has led to women suffering injuries during sex

Doyoumind · 12/08/2022 10:01

Apart from all the violence etc porn portrays as normal, anal sex is definitely treated as an everyday thing that women enjoy. I don't personally. I know some women claim they do but I've certainly known men who pressure for it and I'm guessing it's only got worse in the years since I was dating.

This article suggests women are unknowingly entering into something that can cause serious injuries.

Ignore them rufus there's no way you have been inappropriate with your DD

@AdamRyan

Well they're not comparable

Tears through child birth are far worse

And as preventable as those via anal sex

1/3 of childbirth in the UK are by caesarean section. This leaves 2/3 with vaginal births. Out of these, 80% of first-time mothers tear. For most women, these tears are minor and heal quickly. The majority of women will have a normal vaginal birth after a 3rd or 4th degree tear. Epidurals increase the risk of tearing. A midwife and obstetrician is at hand to deal with any medical needs caused by tearing. Birthing tears occur either never, once or maybe twice in a woman's lifetime and she usually has a squishy baby at the end to make it all worth it.

Not quite comparable to the injuries caused by anal sex.

PollyRockets

Why are you repeatedly claiming that posters who don't agree with you are struggling?

gnilliwdog · 13/08/2022 11:31

@sunglassesonthetable I suppose I also am challenging the idea that something is mainstream because a lot of men seem to want to do it. If a lot of women don't want to do it it isn't really mainstream because women are half the population.

AdamRyan · 13/08/2022 11:25

Wtf is this
Because men like kink more women should be up for it or sex isn't mutually enjoyable because it's boring for the poor old man.

Women who like vanilla can expect no sex?

Sex should be about connection, surely "mutual enjoyment" means both partners enjoy it. Not necessatily both partners get all their fantasies met.

The way you write this is as if sex is some kind of solo enjoyment taken from your partner. Thats quite a sad and distorted view of love - I find it repugnant and hope that's not what you teach your children.

Also vanilla =/= missionary. That's just being deliberately offensive

Fully agree with this AdamRyan

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 11:29

@AdamRyan it's called a factual analysis of the issue this woman and probably many others are facing

Not sure if you're struggling to read some of these posts properly but I wasn't saying it's a good thing that men like kink therefore women with more boring sexual tastes are left aside.

It's just natural when the majority of kinks are more pleasurable and less dangerous for men than women.

If they drive pleasure from 100 different sexual practices and women drive pleasure from 10 there is a huge mismatch in what would be mutually enjoyable for both parties.

sunglassesonthetable · 13/08/2022 11:17

Arguing with people who say because it's mainstream secondary school children should be educated at school on how to do it more safely.

Given it's ' a niche ' and potentially harmful sex practice that has been pushed into the mainstream as normal by the massive influence of porn how would you educate on it?

Focus on the damaging influence of porn and it's misogyny in school education. Campaign against damaging porn, like smoking - make it expensive and difficult to access and stigmatise it's use. Create support groups for women who have been damaged by men who use porn. Campaign for public awareness advertising of the risks to women's health. Campaign for advertising around positive sexuality and relationships and what this looks like regarding mutual respect and care. The media and tech could be used positively to create positive messages rather than misogyny.

AdamRyan · 13/08/2022 11:25

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 10:57

the mutually enjoyable element of your post os the crux of this

You've seen yourself many men find enjoyment from non vanilla sexual practices

Therefore doing it missionary with you wouldn't be mutually enjoyable for them.

The same applies with sexes reversed, I'd hate to be with someone who stuck to the missionary and didn't like anything outside of the 'vanilla' sphere

Men are by far the ones who drive more enjoyment from the less vanilla sex acts, so that's where the disconnect comes in.

@DirectionToPerfection

Of course it's scaring them if you're only presenting the worst case scenario for anything it can be seen as using scare tactics

And did you miss the many posters claiming those who have anal sex are stupid, pick me's, disgusting, dirty?

I don't even have anal sex

But am not as bigoted as many on here to think those that do are the devil incarnate

Namenic · 13/08/2022 11:23

I personally think there should be more education about risks of childbirth including incontinence. How to strengthen the pelvic floor and what activities might cause problems.

DirectionToPerfection · 13/08/2022 11:23

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 11:16

Well no wonder

People who try and scare their children out of doing something often don't succeed

Fucking hell.

It's not about scaring kids. It's about protecting them and letting them know it's ok to have boundaries and assert them, without feeling like they're 'frigid' or 'boring.'

By the way nobody is shaming you. People are rightly concerned about the impact of a niche practice becoming an expectation because of porn, and the pressures on young girls to do something that can be physically damaging.

11GrumpsaGrumping · 12/08/2022 11:42

@TeaStory you did not clarify that. In any case no distinction was made. The "anti-buggery" law was finally lifted in the UK in 1994. It wasn't specific to sexual orientation but to the act itself. You'd be silly to believe that the law didn't disproportionately affect gay men.

Not all gay men do anal

@sunglassesonthetable Arguing with people who say because it's mainstream secondary school children should be educated at school on how to do it more safely.

That's fair enough. When I was at school, people did the rubber challenge where you rub the skin off your hand with a rubber. We had an assembly about it. In no way was it promoted but we were 'educated' about why we shouldn't do it. Nobody did it after that. Of course, anal sex and assaults are never going to be dealt with so easily.

My point is, not wanting it advocated is one thing. The teachers at my school didn't tell us to use oil or rotate hands. But anyone saying it shouldn't even be spoken about or else you're a groomerConfused are not thinking straight.

We discussed SA at school too. Nobody is advocating for it by mentioning it.

PollyRockets · 13/08/2022 11:19

ClaroNormale · 13/08/2022 11:18

Surely only an ignorant male or a woman who hasn't given birth would think tears through childbirth are equivalent to tears through anal.

IKR

Those gained through child birth are so, so much worse

And just as preventable

There is a reason 3rd and 4th degree tears are more common here than in other western countries

Usually correlates with the countries that don't use forceps

I think there are different ideas about the messaging of “Education” :is it.
(a) Anal is “regularly enjoyed” by some couples and here ladies are some ideas about how you can provide pleasure to your man. or

(b) Anal is a niche practice which those who profit from exploitation would like you think is normal, and that “everyone else is doing it” so that you can coerce/be coerced into commoditizing your own sexuality, to have it sold back to you

Spot on

sunglassesonthetable · 13/08/2022 11:11

People who say it's mainstream mean a lot of men want to do it. People who say it's niche mean a lot of women don't want to do it. Whose wants are more important? Campaigning for women's rights to bodily boundaries are more important to me and many others than campaigning for men's rights to have that they want. Female fans of anal can create their own groups, organise their own education.

.Not quite sure who you're arguing with.

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 13/08/2022 11:11

Whitehorsegirl · 13/08/2022 10:44

@RufustheFloralmissingreindeer 'Porn makes things mainstream and then if its mainstream we should be educated on it''

No.

Porn routinely shows rough sex and women being used as passive objects. It shows acts like choking and various kinks (which some people will enjoy but is unlikely to be a mainstream pastime...)

These does not mean that these acts should become ''mainstream'' and that we should just blindly accept them as the norm.

Education is needed to remind people that porn is not real life, to help young people build a healthy sense of self and of their body and to understand that consent is everything and that you should never do something just to please someone else or to conform to the ''standards'' set by porn. The education should also be blunt enough to explain the physical risks of certain sex acts and how to minimise that it is possible and if you decide to do them.

Porn is not here to educate you and your kids or to give you a healthy attitude to sex. It is a product and its main purpose is to make money and keep people hooked on it. Porn producers will continue to show more and more extreme acts to keep people watching and that can desensitise and lead to really unhealthy attitudes to relationships.

Anal sex is not a mainstream practice. Nor is BDSM. Nothing wrong if that is your thing and you have a partner who is into it too but let's stop pretending that they are.

I am seriously fed up with the concept that it is OK for porn to dictate how people should be having sex and that we should just accept whatever they show as desirable and mainstream behaviour...

That is what other posters are saying....That if a sexual act becomes mainstream through porn that then everyone should be educated

My thoughts are that (as I said upthread) lots of things are in porn which in theory means that the next thing that becomes mainstream through porn will again lead to people 'needing ' to be educated

I appreciate however that my post read literally looks like something I believe....I should have put one of those 'hmmmm' faces
