Inspired by an experience I had recently that has really rattled me. It's very outing as I've talked to everyone in my real life about it, it bothered me so much so I'll keep it brief.
I met some people I hadn't met before to buy an item from FB marketplace. Its a fairly rare item, and an expensive one so I went off to see if it was the right thing. The house was beautiful, it was a very large manor house that has been turned into huge expensive period flats, the grounds were amazing and the people were nice but a few odd things happened that were boundary testing and also some oddly timed things happened. While I was there I felt OK, it was a beautiful place, very quiet and entrancing but as I drove away I had this overwhelming sense of relief that I was leaving, and I was scanning my brain for any information I'd told them about myself in case they could find me. I am not a scared person or one prone to flights of fancy , this has never happened to me before. I had a physical reaction to the street they live on when I drove past some days later. My brain said "I'm never going up there again" and I keep having that feeling of having been in a bubble, it bursting and me being glad to be away from it. A weird story I know. Anyone had similar? I just know there was something deeply wrong there. I even asked my lovely neighbour to send a prayer up for me to protect me , and I would consider myself a non believer!

Yes OP it sounded like cult to me - the weird love bombing and being over familiar, like those religious group that come to your door - collectors of souls.

I almost accepted a late night lift from the Claremont serial killer, Bradley Edwards, until I looked into his eyes and knew that if I got in his car, it would be the last thing I ever did.

Superduper02 · 19/09/2022 13:47

I also consider myself an empath and have experienced the same before. Interesting!

Superduper02 · 19/09/2022 13:43

crochetmonkey74 · 01/08/2022 09:57

Interesting isn't it?
I've never understood this before and often thought others who had these knowing feelings were just a bit 'woo' or imaginative.
But honestly, now having it happen to me (only once in 47 years) I understand it.

This is why we do not allow second hand objects in our home. We know all too well what you experienced and you are not crazy. Do not go back to that place and I'd be careful about second hand objects in the future. Once they are in your home, it could be a different story.

Listen to your instincts, I had a strong negative reaction to a friend’s new partner. He seemed on paper like the ideal man, charming, witty, generous, but too nice, as though he was compensating for something and I half expected the mask to slip one day.

One day out of the blue, she phoned to say he had a heart attack and died. I sympathised for her tragic loss but to my surprise, she said she was glad he was dead, and that he was systematically abusing and controlling her.

On his death we discovered he had huge debts and had spent lengthy stretches in jail for violent crimes. He lied to my friend but got away with it because he was clever and articulate, and he gradually eroded her self esteem. Clare’s law would have been useful and I wish I’d known about it when I first met him.

So I’m getting weird, I’m not getting evil

But you weren't there and didn't sense it, and you're not OP...

There is no such thing as an 'evil' presence though is there?! People can be evil but not places or the 'air'

I worked as an estate agent and had to go look at an empty farmhouse that was due to come on the market. I love old buildings so very comfortable usually. This house, although beautiful, gave me this unshakeable feeling of being watched. Upstairs, downstairs, everywhere, I felt I wasn't wanted there and was intruding. Fair enough, I'm only an EA but still! Couldn't even get myself to do the oil reading in one of the outbuildings. Good luck to whoever is renting that place!

Pollydon · 19/09/2022 12:52

Along similar lines, but it was a lady I used to say hello to as I walked the dog.
It was autumn, just getting dark when I walked past the factory where she worked and she called me over, waving. As I got up to her she said loudly that she had something in the car for me and walked me to her car clutching my arm. I was 😕 but walked with her. As soon as I was inside the factory gates she told me that she had seen a man following me as I walked up the road and that every time I stopped to let the dog have a sniff he was ducking out of view. I thanked her profusely and stayed in the factory grounds with her until we were sure that the man had gone.

@RoseAndVioletSims were you living in Manchester at the time and the meter reader working for a company beginning with an E? This happened to me and I was terrified. Have never let one in since

It wasn’t Manchester, no, and it was a company called isupply who were taken over by EDF. I can’t actually remember if it happened before or after they were taken over.

He was a violent man. We would go to safe houses but Mum always went back to him. That was the only time he ever hit me.

I’m so sorry you went through that. Xx

@Druyhbf also very concerned about how your step dad treated you. What a horrible situation for you to be in. I hope that was a one off at the very least.

As a child I found an antique necklace on the road opposite my house, it looked so old and I’ve no idea how it could’ve got there. The pendant was some sort of dragon or gargoyle creature. I’ve never felt anything like it, like there was evil running out of it. Every time someone touched it something bad would happen. A man at my house touched it and crashed his car within 12 hours. I touched it and fell and banged my head badly. There were a few other things - we threw it away at the tip. I wonder where it went. It was definitely not ‘right’ though

Yes once and it was awful. It took me years to process it. It was not a dramatic event but it was subtly dark and unsettling. I have a strong faith but it unsettled me to the core (and actually feel sick even writing about it).

What happened?

For all those saying this, it really wasn't like that.

Then what are you trying to insinuate? That they planned to murder you? I hope you aren’t slagging these people off in their local area. At worst they were swingers with shit social skills, but you’re making out they were going to do something awful like sacrifice you to Lucifer with absolutely no evidence except for a ‘feeling’.

DarkDayforMN · 19/09/2022 11:44

This isn't on the same level but it's on my mind because it only happened two days ago. Met a man at a wedding, in his sixties, married, a friend of the groom's family. He made some kind of harmless but mildly annoying joke when I was talking to him early on - my brain went NOPE and I found myself giving him a look at which he quite visibly hung his head and shrank away. And I felt a bit guilty afterwards because I do know my best glower is intimidating to men and while he annoyed me, he really hadn't said anything to warrant the look I gave him!

The next day I found out he had, six hours and a lot of free drinks later, made a pass at the groom's sister, who is a beautiful woman thirty years younger than him and has known him since she was a small girl. And she's a lesbian. And when she pointed out to him that she is a lesbian he told her that no she isn't, she just thinks she is. She was very upset by the whole thing. In retrospect I feel quite justified in glowering at him!

Thinking about it now, the gift of man-repelling dirty looks has saved me from much worse than that guy, and it's usually triggered by something unconscious.

I haven’t rtft except for your replies op, but could your tea have been spiked?

No luckily I didn't drink any. Precisely as I didn't trust them. Not a feeling I have ever had before

I went to view a house with exh. It was large and needed doing up which was fine as that's what we were looking for but as soon as I walked in I felt dreadful. I felt like something awful had happened upstairs and the walls had seen things they couldn't forget. I couldn't get out fast enough. My exh thought I was a loony but I just can't articulate how awful it felt.

Mfsf · 19/09/2022 11:36

is this the first time you feel it ?
I got this all my life , situations where something is not ok in the environment and I physically need to leave . Not long ago I had a similar situation . I went to collect something from marketplace and it was new building within an old hospital ground . House was great , person was lovely but I felt unease to be so close to the hospital , but still ok . The moment I got in the car again my brain just went “ drive away just gogogo “
I had tears down my face and my heart was beating so fast . I tend to feel buzzing in my ears when I’m near a place it has bad energy and if I ignore it makes me dizzy and feel enclosed ?
I hope it makes any sense .
I’ve been told as a child I was a empath . Maybe you are too

CherryGenoa · 19/09/2022 11:33

OP, They were testing you. Trying to gain insight into your life, social support and psychological vulnerabilities. Very intrusive and out of order. But it felt sinister because it was probably a planned effort to establish whether they could assert control over you.

I started a similar thread last night

I met a guy on online dating - had a dream he turned up at my flat and tried to break in. He seemed on the surface nice enough
I was not that interested in him so broke it off after a couple of dates and forgot the dream

couple of weeks later he turned upto my flat and I had to call the police

Can you link your thread? I'd like to read it. I have had similar happen in the past.

Without doubt, I've spent a lot of time in woods as a pagan practitioner on my own, they hold no fear for me. One night I went into St Leonards forest in Sussex (I don't live there anymore) and felt the most overwhelming feeling of horror and evil and legged it like a bat out of hell. i haven't had that feeling before or since.
