Inspired by an experience I had recently that has really rattled me. It's very outing as I've talked to everyone in my real life about it, it bothered me so much so I'll keep it brief.
I met some people I hadn't met before to buy an item from FB marketplace. Its a fairly rare item, and an expensive one so I went off to see if it was the right thing. The house was beautiful, it was a very large manor house that has been turned into huge expensive period flats, the grounds were amazing and the people were nice but a few odd things happened that were boundary testing and also some oddly timed things happened. While I was there I felt OK, it was a beautiful place, very quiet and entrancing but as I drove away I had this overwhelming sense of relief that I was leaving, and I was scanning my brain for any information I'd told them about myself in case they could find me. I am not a scared person or one prone to flights of fancy , this has never happened to me before. I had a physical reaction to the street they live on when I drove past some days later. My brain said "I'm never going up there again" and I keep having that feeling of having been in a bubble, it bursting and me being glad to be away from it. A weird story I know. Anyone had similar? I just know there was something deeply wrong there. I even asked my lovely neighbour to send a prayer up for me to protect me , and I would consider myself a non believer!

Oh, thank you. Grin That'll keep me occupied for a while!

I went to look round a school for my DC.. for some reason as soon as I got out the gate I felt incredible tightness over my back and neck.. I RAN to my car as fast as I could... it felt like I was being chased ... I have no idea what it was about and my children didn't go there..

How am I making it all about me? I just find it incredibly disturbing that the poster was happy a man dies because he was weird.

shockthemonkey · 02/08/2022 14:52

Sorry, I had missed the crucial update!

OK, I withdraw my YABU and replace it with a YANreallyBterriblyU but still... you don't need to go back there so that's good!

Yes absolutely. Long story short but many years ago I met a man in a nightclub and went home with him (stupid I know). When we walked in, certain items in his living room troubled me but I thought I was just being oversensitive. But he seemed very nice and kind of, I dunno....beta male, like a bit of a waffly Hugh Grant figure? But as the minutes wore on it felt like he was putting on an act. But I put that down to him just trying to be attractive to me in a non-threatening way, I thought it was quite sweet.

See - female socialisation was making me override these little instinctive niggles that I had.

i was quite drunk and therefore relaxed but then he went out to the kitchen to pour us both a drink and in that moment I heard, I SWEAR I physically heard it, a voice very close to my left ear, or maybe in the left side of my head, say, very clearly, "Get out of here now." It wasn't my own voice, or any voice I thought I knew, but it was somehow a familiar, authoritative voice and one I trusted. So I literally got up and ran. Left some of the contents of my handbag but not my purse or keys thank god. There were two chains on his front door but once I undid those I opened it with no problem and just left and ran down the road. Middle of nowhere, countryside, no buses or anything that I knew about (no mobile phone, just pre- the era where everyone had them, early 00s). After ages of walking I saw a cab and, thank Goddess, it was a female cab driver who listened kindly to my blurted out tale of fear and possible paranoia and said she thought I'd done the right thing.

Mad and creepy but I'll never forget it.

I've had 'the voice' too, in the last days of a relationship with (what turned out to be) psycho-ex. The 'voice' is you, it's the bit of your brain that's been gathering real-time information and desperately needs to over-ride the logical bit of your brain that thinks it knows what it's doing. So, never ignore it!

It's all explained in a book called 'Phantoms in the Brain: Probing the Mysteries of the Human Mind' by V.S. Ramachandran (a neurologist, so not a 'woo' book). I read it after the psycho-ex induced breakdown, and it made a lot of sense how my brain reacted to it all.

SherbertLemonDrop · 02/08/2022 14:50

Think it may have turned round actually so it became the front. Can't remember tbh I was only a teen.

SherbertLemonDrop · 02/08/2022 14:48

I was supposed to get on a train and I was there literally waiting where I always did, to get on to the last carriage. It came and I just didn't get on. Decided to go back in to town and get the next one. There was an accident and the train crashed and some people at the back died died. So strange. I don't know why I didn't get on, I just didn't.

mummymeister · 02/08/2022 14:45

when I was working as an eho student, I went to a house which had grant aid for some repairs (long time ago, not available now!) every time I went there I just felt completely sick and because it was the roof mainly that was being repaired had to keep going up these horrible narrow stairs always with the feeling that someone was behind me and coming down them was just horrible. my skin creeps even now thinking about it. We had to go back a few years later for something else to the same place and whilst there the tenant mentioned that he had been in 4 months but couldnt wait to leave and had fallen down the stairs on more than one occasion. We met the landlord who told us no one stayed more than the bare 6 months, some even less and wondered what he could do about it. Weirdly, in the house we live in at the moment, several people including me have seen our ghost and I feel nothing but calmness here. but that house was vile.

Inyournewdress · 02/08/2022 14:45

There is really important warning in this.

Laura Richards, former head of the homicide prevention unit at Scotland Yard, has reiterated often to ALWAYS TRUST THAT SO CALLED INTUITION or sixth sense as it COULD SAVE YOU. It isn’t nothing, it’s actually a product of all kinds of things your brain has subconsciously or subtly noticed and processed. I guess occasionally someone might be in a fanciful mood but never risk ignoring it, because the kind of feeling you describe might not seem as if it is based in fact and empirical observation, but in a very important way it is.

TLDR: CRIME ANALYSTS CAUTION…IF YOUR INSTINCT SAYS SOMETHING IS BAD, ASSUME IT IS BAD…THIS COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE.

I'm confused. First you say a few odd things happened that were boundary testing. Then you say you don't really know, or cannot explain, what happened. How were these things boundary testing if you don't know what happened?

Voted YABU because of this lack of clarity.

I listed all the boundary testing things In a previous post
YABU for not reading my updates 😀

My dd’s instincts probably saved hers and her dad’s life. They were at the Ariana Grande Manchester Arena concert and her dad wanted to leave sharpish at the end to get back to where they had parked to avoid the crowds but dd said she had a overwhelming feeling to stay put in Arena. This gut feeling probably saved them as they would have been in the spot where those poor people lost their lives.

Supposedly the majority of communication is non verbal, so even if someone is pulling the right faces and saying the right things, if their body language is ‘off’ and conveying the complete opposite sentiment, then it’s going to make people uneasy. At least the people who pick up on the incongruity, anyway.

on a related note, I’m pretty sure I’ve creeped at least one person out in such a way. I got told once I had ‘cold eyes’. I didn’t know what to say in response to that one, given that I wasn’t actually plotting a brutal murder, I was just focused inwardly and mentally running through a list of shit I had to get sorted that day. I’m neurotypical, incidentally.

Yes. My neighbour. My brain has gone to all sorts of places to work out her dark secret(s).

I met someone last month who was very friendly but I got a really weird vibe off them that really unsettled me. I didn’t want my children anywhere near them after our conversation, despite them
being friendly enough that one of my children commented on how nice they were. Wondered if I’d over reacted but I got exactly the same vibe off them when I bumped into them a few days later. I noticed then that her eyes were really cold and I got a really evil vibe off her. I’ve worked with the general public for years and people who have done all sorts of things but I never usually get a vibe like this. I think you have to trust your gut in situations like this.

georgarina · 02/08/2022 14:12

I think we're good at subconsciously putting details together that we don't consciously recognise and we just get a feeling something is off.

I once went on a Hinge date with a guy and as soon as I saw him I got a bad feeling. We were walking and talking about nothing in particular and I just got the most intense bad feeling I've ever had. It was like a black cloud. My heart was racing, I felt sick, I had to sit down and said I needed to go home.

Stupidly I didn't - he acted so thoughtful and concerned, directing me right to the station, that I changed my mind and we had dinner together.

He told me he had killed another student as a teenager in his home country and seriously injured two others. His family had covered it up and sent him to the UK. His eyes were so wide as he was telling me, and he was kind of smiling. He told me that the sight of blood just 'turned a switch in him'. I remember being acutely aware of controlling how I reacted and feeling that my safety was hanging in the balance and I needed to act like it was all normal.

Marmite17 · 02/08/2022 14:12

I developed a weird phobia of a grain silo. Massive and ugly building which suddenly appears when driving to nearby town. Also twitchy with wind turbines, to a lesser extent.
Silo was built before I was born and had no problems with it until about 10 years ago. Heart would pound and on verge of panic attack when I parked nearby and had to walk past it.
Think I'm largely desensitised now. But strange.

mrswibblywobbly · 02/08/2022 14:11

When I was 19 I was walking back to my Grans where I lived by Kingsholm Rugby ground in Gloucester at about 9 at night.
A car pulled up and a chap asked if I wanted a lift ,I obviously refused.
As he drove off I was overwhelmed by a feeling of absolute terror, ran home got in, locked the door and turned all the lights on ( my Gran wasn’t in), I felt tearful and very shaken.
I can’t say for definite that it was Fred West, it was dark and I only got a glimpse of him and his dark curly hair, but I can say that this guy looked very similar and that I have never experienced fear like it before or after
Your instincts are there for a reason.

I am loving all the spooky threads and comments this morning!

Wonderfully eerie stories here and in the other thread, great reminders to trust your instincts.

@Triselly There's more spooky threads? Where? Shock Could you please link them, pretty please? 🙂

Satsumaonaplate · 02/08/2022 13:47

Yes - I was driving down a short dual carriageway yesterday and approached a roundabout. Beside me there was a really nippy but massive lorry. I just knew he was dangerous, and hung back from my correct lane at a roundabout - sure enough he swung across both lanes at speed and would have taken me out if I had been in my (correct) lane at that time. Sounds trivial but I had a baby and toddler in the car with me. I just knew I was in danger while he was driving near me.

And when I was 14, walking home, a man who I used to baby sit for tried to offer me a lift home - but I was literally meters from my house and he knew this. He also invited me out to football games. Who invited a 14 girl old girl out as a grown man?
