To feel like fucking crying?

My partner has a stomach bug. He caught it off the kids and he's had a couple of accidents.

Came in from work today to find the house stinking of shit. It's everywhere - our bed is going to have to be replaced, the bedroom carpet is ruined, it's on the stair carpet and the hall carpet downstairs.

I've just spent 45mins scrubbing the (tiny) bathroom because there was shit literally everywhere.

Can't really afford to buy a new bed but the mattress is heavily stained, now on both sides. It's going to cost hundreds for that and the carpets. Genuinely feel like crying my eyes out. Probably not helped by the fact he's doing nothing to help (like putting his soiled clothes in the shower rather than just leaving them). I've got piles of washing to do still too.

Aibu to be utterly fed up?

Some of these comments are a bit nasty. I get that some weird people like to make troll posts but faecal incontinence can be a symptom of certain illnesses, if he has a fever or infection or he is dehydrated he could be delirious/confused too, hence struggling to get to the toilet on time.

I get that it must be disgusting and infuriating for you OP, I have a child with ASD who went through a phase of going to the toilet in random corners and whilst I know it isn't the same, consistently cleaning up someone else's bodily fluids when you aren't being paid to do it is absolutely no fun at all.

You have done the right thing making a doctors appointment as they can discuss his symptoms further and send him for tests etc if needed. For my daughter I use the puppy training pads from home bargains on her bed, it sounds so degrading but it may help with the management of it until he can get some treatment from the doctor.

ThackeryBinks · 06/04/2022 16:31

I'd give 111 a call that's way past normal.

SantaHat · 06/04/2022 16:30

Bloody hell! Even when my dogs have had the shits, they’ve made less of a mess in the house.

Why on Earth isn’t he at least trying to help clean it up either?!

AnxiousHeffalump · 06/04/2022 16:29

I’d be taking the carpet up and just have floorboards for a while.

HulaTallulah · 06/04/2022 16:26

This isn't normal. Most people have had noro or similar but don't crap all over the house.

He sounds like his problems are not related to a stomach bug, he has a revolting attitude.

LikeAStar1994 · 06/04/2022 16:26

Can people stop with the Hmm

You're making yourselves look like utter twats.

So sorry to hear this, OP. How bloody awful for you Flowers

Rubyupbeat · 06/04/2022 16:25

I've had it so severe I've had the odd accident, but its contained within my clothes, so myself and clothes go into the shower, then clothes in washing machine. After that I stay within close range of the loo. There is no way that poo should be everywhere.

Bunty55 · 06/04/2022 16:23

Is it just me who finds this hard to believe? The amount of mess he has created and lets someone else clean it up ????

No Just no.

Hugasauras · 06/04/2022 16:23
@Hugasauras He didn’t leave the clothes in the shower, he just left them. I think the OP would have preferred them in the shower.
Oh yes I misread. That's even worse Envy

Unforgettablefire · 06/04/2022 16:22

Norovirus is the work of the devil. He’s got explosive diarrhoea and been trying to run from where he was to the toilet. You leave the bathroom thinking you’re ok and you’re done.
I don’t think he’s going to have the strength to clean it up at the minute it’s horrible yes but it’s not deliberate he’s been trying to get to the toilet.

SiobhanSharpe · 06/04/2022 16:21

@diamondpony80

This is NOT normal. I’ve had stomach bugs and the worst food poisoning (non stop both ends) and I NEVER had an accident. Yes I spent most of the night in the bathroom, but obviously as an adult you do what you have to. DH is the same. You really shouldn’t be cleaning up after him and definitely need to be having a word with him about basic hygiene. Sick or not, there is no excuse for this.
Been there with the food poisoning. Stayed in the bathroom all night. Yet somehow managed to clean up after myself when necessary.
CustardySergeant · 06/04/2022 16:21

@Rebecca1305

Nah fuck that I wouldn’t be cleaning it wait till he’s better and make him do it. I would get new carpets and mattress too if you can’t afford it do it on finance oh my god that’s horrific poor you.
Shock It can't just be left until he's better!
SheAndHerAreWomen · 06/04/2022 16:19
@SheAndHerAreWomen no it’s real, if u scroll back I’ve posted the photos
Wasn't doubting the reality - just questioning why on earth anyone would take such an interest in poo. It's vile even when it isn't spread all over the house!

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/04/2022 16:18

Insurance claim?

Greengreenhill · 06/04/2022 16:17

It is obviously real, the OP has put photos up.

Sorry OP this sounds awful. As long as he is hugely apologetic and grateful for you cleaning it up I’d chalk it up as one of those things. If he’s not you’ve got bigger problems.

I can see it happening if you’ve unexpectedly woken up to explosive vomiting and diarrhoea. Clothes struggle to contain it when its liquid and coming out with force.

theemmadilemma · 06/04/2022 16:16

That's not fucking normal. If you're that ill you're being caught short, you just don't leave the toilet area. I've bedded down on the bathroom floor before because it pointless moving far.

No normal adult choses to risk it by going up and downstairs shitting as they go.

Sorry OP, sounds a truly shitty situation

QueenCremant · 06/04/2022 16:14

For all of you being horrid to op, just be grateful that you’ve never had noro so bad that you’ve shit yourself.

I once vomited in the car, got upstairs into bed and shat myself. No warning, it just literally happened. All over the bed. Noro gives me a temperature and shakes and luckily I had a dh who didn’t find clearing up as he realised it was out of my control.

Op, I hope it settles and you manage to get things clean.

stuntbubbles · 06/04/2022 16:13

@Hugasauras He didn’t leave the clothes in the shower, he just left them. I think the OP would have preferred them in the shower.

WelcomeEverythingIsFine · 06/04/2022 16:12

May be a stupid question but can you claim on your house insurance for the damage?

OMFG no wonder you're so upset;what the hell???

Is he secretly a farm animal?

urrrgh46 · 06/04/2022 16:12

I would be VERY cross with my DP if he'd done this. My eldest DS has colitis, when he was prediagnosis he was having liquid motions of mainly blood, accompanied with vomiting and cramps between 10 and 16 times a day he was 17 and not once did he not get to the toilet. He'd have times when he'd be on the toilet and being sick in the sink at the same time.

On a more helpful front. There is a product called Simple Solution - get it off Amazon or at Pets at home. It'll get the smell out and maybe even the stain. Hire a carpet cleaner and use the simple solution instead of carpet shampoo the first time you go over it. Use it on the mattress too. Then buy a really good mattress protector - that should save the mattress.

oakleaffy · 06/04/2022 16:12

@saraclara

No one shits “ Everywhere” even with Noro.

Read my posts @oakleaffy and be glad you've been lucky so far.

I was hospitalised with a severe vomiting / poo bug when young. Dehydration- But didn’t shit or puke everywhere. Bucket and the loo.

Most people don’t.
