I know this has been done before, and I’ve read many stories, but I need more! Please tell me your creepy stories!

Mine is

Just over 10 years ago, I got pregnant and had a missed miscarriage, and went to hospital to have the D&C to have the baby removed. Exactly a year to the day after the procedure, I woke in the middle of the night. In my half asleep state, I felt like something was watching me, right next to my head, and I moved. Then suddenly, it felt like a rush of wind went over my face and down my body to my feet. It properly woke me up and I went cold. I turned on the light to see if there was anything in my room, nothing was there. Didn’t have any drinks or anything upstairs, no idea what it could have been. But it has always been a comfort to me thinking that it was my baby saying they were ok.

I've never mentioned to my mum as she'd be upset but I had a horrible dream that my grandma was dangling from a cliff/high building shouting 'help me' and I was trying to hold her up but she slipped and I woke startled. Later in the morning I got a phone call to say she had passed away from a heart attack. She hadn't been unwell. Every now and then my dreams do materialise in some form.

I shared a house about 25 years ago and my house mate was working away. I called for a drink at a local bar after work (I knew all of the locals and often went alone). I don't remember anything after going in and woke up naked about 6 in the morning in my own bed (I never sleep naked), my front door was unlocked. I'll never know but 25 years of speculating and more worryingly, wondering if there were any photos/video of anything that may or may not have happened has never left me.

@OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg

Years ago someone posted here about how they’d been working in an old hospital and the lift doors opened onto a scene from a WWI field hospital or similar - does anyone else remember that?
Yes, I remember that!

I lost my best friend a few year ago she was a beautiful mongrel dog German Shepherd cross. I broke my heart. One night while still half asleep I felt hwr cold wet nose inside the quilt on the bed she sniffed my back and I felt her fur on my arm. I didn't dare turn round in case she disappeared but lay still as she sniffed and rubbed her head on my arm. I even smelled her it was so real but i k now its just a dream .

For those of you who have experienced the feeling of levitation, perhaps have a read about Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. It's a real medical condition despite its fantastical name

Our previous house we all had the creeps when walking past the top of the stairs on the landing to go to the loo at night. The kids would run past and not look downstairs. We never saw anything but it was just a weird horrible feeling. I know my dh saw something one night, he told me about it I think I have wiped it from my mind.
This house also has several presences, but they feel friendly. I have been in the kitchen, which is an 80s extension and seen what I thought was my dd walking through the dining room which was originally the kitchen, and started chatting to her, only to go into the room and there was no one there! Then a few minutes later she came downstairs.
I've seen the odd movement out of the corner of my eye, but that might be a curtain moving or someone walking past outside on the street.
My yd has more of these visits though. The hallway to her bedroom is quite long and dark, and is part of what was a bedroom, and she has felt something go through her as she has gone to her room. She said it's not felt friendly and it does freak her out. She has a light above her door so she can see to get too and from her room better. I suspect some of hers is due to hallucinations from medications though.
The house was built around 1930s, ex council, and as far as I know we are the 4th family to live here. Potentially the original tenants could have died here, but the previous two owners moved on to other places.

I just remembered another. This wasn't creepy at the time, but with hindsight... I worked in an old house that had been converted into offices. I always seemed to be the first to arrive every morning. In fact sometimes a colleague or two would be sitting in their car in the car park, but wouldn't go in until I had opened up. I assumed they didn't have keys. I often thought I heard (what I assumed to be) the cleaners walking around and dragging chairs about in the rooms upstairs from my office, and regularly heard keys jangling in locks and doors opening and closing. I thought it was the wind/colleagues/my mind! I always assumed I wasn't the first in and there was someone else had come into the house before me, or someone quickly followed me in but didn't say hello as they were in a hurry to get to work.

It wasn't until we moved out to a shiny new office (after 5 years!) that all my colleagues told me they had been too afraid to go in alone as there were so many ghosts! Every one had a story of mugs of tea 'falling' off tables, footsteps on stairs, doors opening and closing etc, and some had even seen figures disappearing up the stairs or unknown shadowy faces looking out of the windows. I am so glad they didn't tell me and I remained innocently unaware, or I too would have been sitting in the car park waiting for someone else to unlock!

@Jevarakh

BUSTED!

It's a short story I wrote.

Read it at a literature festival one year, in a cemetery at night.

Very effective it was too.

@SisterJude they did fess up Smile

We lived in an old set of cottages. I never had any run ins with anything unusual but my new neighbour mentioned she kept seeing a man in the hall. He kept appearing just out the corner of her eye and weirdly only from the knees up.

The new neighbour did some research and it turned out the hall had been damaged previously by fire and the new landing was now higher up than the original. The man, it seems, still stands on where the floor would have been in his time.

Amiwastingtime · 20/09/2021 11:39

Not exactly creepy but definitely weird. For context my DM and I aren't close and don't talk often.

One night I had a dream I was visiting my mother, I took my daughter and another little boy around six months old. Chunky boy, long blonde hair, big brown eyes. A few days after the dream I found out I was pregnant. Sadly I then lost the baby very early.

A few weeks later my DM messaged me, she told me she'd had a dream I was visiting. I brought my dd, but I had a son who I didn't bring. Chunky, blonde hair, big brown eyes. Apparently I'd "left him at home with nanny Jane."

Nanny Jane is my great nan who passed away years ago. I never told DM about the miscarriage, or my dream, like I say we aren't close.

I'm not a big believer in sprits but I do believe nanny Jane is looking after my boy.

When I was at beauty school, one of the other students called Lara tragically died in a car accident one weekend.

Our tutor was holding some mini whiteboards whist she told us what had happened. Then she turned over the first whiteboard to give out to see ‘Lara’ written on the other side.

JustLyra · 20/09/2021 11:28

When I was 14 my friend and I were house/dog sitting overnight for her sister.

We decided, in our teenage wisdom, to watch a creepy film despite being a pair of absolute shitebags.

Sat on the bed watching away and winding each other up we squeal as the film gets to a particularly scary bit when right at the same time lamps that were on a timer - that her sister forgot to tell us about - came on.

We screamed so loud a neighbour came to check on us and we got her Dad to come and pick us up as we were too freaked out to stay.

HarrietsChariot · 20/09/2021 11:07

I had to go into work one Saturday around 2010 to finish a job. It was a small building and I'd borrowed the keys on the Friday because I knew I'd need to come in.

I unlocked the front door, went inside and locked it behind me, went to my desk and started work. About an hour in I heard someone running down the corridoor towards me, laughing. I assumed someone else had come into the building so went to see who it was, not wanting them to be startled if they found me there.

Nobody there. I went round the building, nobody around. Nobody in the carpark. The door was still locked - if they had run outside they wouldn't have had time to lock it up again. They can't have left through a fire door as the alarm would have gone off. On the Monday I asked around if anyone had been in - nobody said they had.

One other weird thing that happened this year. It was a Saturday evening and I was home alone. I had my bluetooth headphones on, connected to the television, listening to BBC News while I was in the kitchen making dinner. The BBC newsflash sound came on, instantly my brain told me Murray Walker had died. "And now some sad news..." - I 100% knew what was coming next - "...from the world of sport, from Formula One, the commentator Murray Walker has died."

I knew he was in his 90s but had no reason to think he would have died at that particular time. It flashed into my brain just before the announcer read it out. As I said, I was in a different room so couldn't see the TV from where I was.

The cats one reminds me of another ongoing & lovely, not creepy one here...

We've lived here a long time & have always kept cats, so we've had 3 die here over the years. All 3 have visited over the years, even this last week.

Polly our old Maine Coon who died at nearly 22 has ended seen by everyone in our household at various times. Usually trotting down the stairs when we get the dreamies out. We've all seen what we can best describe as a watery blurred & vague image of her trotting down the stairs & disappearing when she hits the lighter area at the bottom of the stairs. We hear her too. Our living cats act as if they know she's there & walk around her.

Our large black tomcat who died over 15 years ago was frequently seen in the years after his death. DD said he still slept on her bed, but we don't see him anymore

Our little black girl who died only a few years ago has been felt & heard by all of us... she had a very distinctive & deep meow. DH & I both get what's best described as a droughts rubbing itself around our legs when standing at the cooker, we both get goosebumps when this happens too, she was the only one of out cats who did this when living. I've seen her in the kitchen & so has DD, again a sort of vague watery blurred image of her.

Creepy to some, but we love that they still pop in from time to time

Slenderman?

@TheFormidableMrsC

Weirdly similar & I've never wanted to watch the film as a result, but Slenderman is to my knowledge a made up meme from 2009, so decades after my experience

Theunamedcat · 20/09/2021 07:13

I had cats and my cats died over several years and I rehomed one because she was lonely and there was no way I was getting another cat or pet ever again! Years later I scrolling through Facebook friend of a friend was selling kittens "im not getting any it hurts too much when they go" etc etc that night I felt a cat cuddle me like my first one used too it made me feel such love

I ended up with three of the kittens and one of them is a night cuddler just like dcat 1 from all those years ago

Babamamananarama · 20/09/2021 01:23

A little while after my grandmother died - I must have been 8 or 9 - I woke one night and saw her sitting on the end of my bed. I remember clearly thinking - don't freak out because that would upset her, and she's come to visit with good intentions. So I just smiled at her and shut my eyes again and went back to sleep.

I didn't tell my parents. Years later - in my teens - my dad revealed he'd had a similar visit around the same way. So, it turned out, had my sister.

My grandmother thought she was psychic on some level and had also appeared to my grandad on his deathbed.

I have a necklace that she gave me as a baby which I still wear sometimes. It's one of my treasured possessions. I thought i had lost it once, looked everywhere and it turned up in a place in my flat that I definitely didn't put it (and nor did DP).

LemonSwan · 20/09/2021 00:59

I was sectioned once for acute psychosis. Its bloody mad in those places and I was outside praying to please get out of their alive. I wasn't religious, its just the kind of thing you do when you have no idea where to turn. I looked up and saw a set of glowing red and orange footsteps appear on the floor and step by step forward.

I then ran round telling everyone about my hallucinations and someone sent the vicar to tell me about the footsteps of christ. I just started panicking that he only had one leg, I was too drugged up to conceptualise that foot print marks are made one at a time when you walk.

No idea still what to make of it. I was psychotic after all. But then I never did know about the footsteps/ myths of the christian faith before hand. So all a bit odd but was comforting at a difficult time that someone was there.

HarrisonStickle · 20/09/2021 00:31

This happened in 1998 not long after Lyn Bryant was murdered in Cornwall whilst walking her dog down a country lane.

I lived in the countryside not that far away and was out for a walk one day when I saw a whitish car parked by the side of the lane and a man inside. It was a bit weird, as the lanes were mostly empty usually. It did stick in my mind but I put it down to someone being lost.

A few days later I was looking out of my kitchen window (which was upstairs) when I saw the same car parked on the other side of the lane opposite where I lived. Again the man sitting there. It really freaked me out. I stood watching for a while, really unsure what to do.

I decided it was a coincidence, that my imagination was in overdrive, and that if I saw it/him again I'd call the police. But I never did see it again.

I still wonder if I should have just called them anyway.

MyMabel · 20/09/2021 00:10

When I was a kid, maybe 8/9 I was allowed to ride my bike up and down our street. I rode to the end of our street and up into a dead-end cauldisac one evening and a man was watching me from a window ride in circles at the top of the cauldisac, then he came out of the house and was walking towards me.. I got a bit scared and started to ride off down the hill, when I looked behind me as I started setting off he started running after me, he didn’t shout, didn’t say anything was just chasing me. I was petrified and can still see his face to this day and what he was wearing and had gardening gloves on.

When I got home I dumped the bike in the driveway and ran inside but never actually told my parents until a few years ago what had happened. I didn’t say anything at the time because I was only allowed to go up and down our road and I felt like I was going to be told off for going up into the cauldisac. When I eventually did tell my mum about it she’s brushed it off as me probably remembering it wrong and he was just walking down the hill - which in a way has made me self doubt as I was young.. but I can still vividly picture seeing him run after me not saying anything. It makes my stomach churn to think about.

I have a reminder on my phone which I will never delete. The reminder is "call back nan", the reminder popped up on my phone exactly one month after she passed away, I don't actually know how to set reminders on my phone but I obviously did it myself somehow.

Another one which is a bit weird- I have a really vivid memory from when I was around 5 years old roughly, of me poking my head through to the dining room where my Mum and Nan were, and them both using stern raised voices "don't go to the light" they were both saying to me, I remember my response was a bit sassy like a "okay calm down" with a massive grin on my face and then just closing the door. Now, at that age I don't think I would have even heard that phrase before let alone understand it's meaning. I remember this so clearly- to how my mum had a hand on her hip wagging a finger at me and my nan sat down smoking with a concerned look on her face. My mum doesn't remember it at all frustratingly as I do believe it happened.

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 19/09/2021 23:27

Not sure if this is creepy exactly but it’s a bit odd and unexplained. I have an opal pendant that I inherited from my aunt which moves itself around the house. Whenever I take off my “everyday” jewellery that I wear regularly, of which this is a part, I put it in a little raku dish on the bedside table. There are about half a dozen necklaces and three or four rings in there.

I’ve found the opal necklace on the chest of drawers, on a shelf of the bookcase downstairs, on the mantelpiece, under the bed, on the kitchen windowsill…it stays in the raku dish about 75% of the time but then I find it somewhere random when I know for certain I took it off at bedtime and put it in the dish. There’s no sinister feel to it and I’m not put off from wearing it, nothing awful has ever happened to me while I’ve had it round my neck; it just won’t stay in the damned dish. None of my other necklaces “travel” like this so I don’t think it’s just me absent-mindlessly taking it off in another room (in fact I know it’s not, because I’m more conscious now of what I do with it when I unfasten it). It’s not my DH winding me up either because it’s happened when I’ve been alone in the house for a few days.

It used to freak me out the first few times it happened and I couldn’t explain it, but since nothing bad has resulted and it doesn’t give off any ‘evil vibes’, I just live with it now.
