AIBU to ask someone to please direct me to the CREEPIEST story I’ve ever heard on MN, about someone who was house sitting in a forest and then a dog got out... if you’ve read the story, you’ll know it. Much to my OH’s annoyance I was up till about 1am trawling the woo threads in Classics but couldn’t find it 😫

OP posts:

@GoodbyeToCare I’ve read a similar one to that. Someone in a house alone, snowing outside, dog goes bananas and they open the door to see footprints leading up the front path but none leading away.

HarryDavidj · 05/06/2021 17:46

Wow StormBaby that must have been really frightening. I've had general Feelings about a place, and in one case a person, but yours sounds quite specific.
Was your dog running towards it?

GoodbyeToCare · 05/06/2021 16:43

I read a Slender Man story on here years ago and it freaked me out. Something about the Slender Man following her home on the opposite side of the street?

Wasn't there another snow one where a poster had been a childminder in a chalet and there were footprints all around the outside of the chalet but no one had been there?

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/06/2021 16:17

I remember reading that ages ago just before going to bed. I was fucking terrified 😱

BitchIAmFromChicago · 05/06/2021 16:14

Where I grew up there was an old factory which had been closed for years. There was only really the skeleton of the building left.
It was set down off the road and down a bit of an embankment so not easy to get to at all. It was surrounded by 6ft fences.
There was always the rumours about it being haunted. When I was about 15 my friends and I had a sleepover and decided to throw stones towards it as a dare. We got as close as we could, which was still about 50 feet away and chucked a few stones towards the building.
As soon as we threw one, I heard what can only be the most non-human guttural roar sounded out…almost demonic. Then followed by faint screaming coming from the factory itself.

Safe to say we absolutely shit ourselves and legged it. I never went anywhere near the place again.

When I write it down it sounds like absolute rubbish, but I swear this happened!

Whatafustercluck · 05/06/2021 15:53

A good story told by a great story teller with more than a little dramatic licence. Actually, the part that's a dead giveaway (apart from the demonic voices) is where she loses the torch. Such a horror story cliche that one. Good effort though, made the hairs stand up when I read it for the first time late at night. Smile

SinkGirl · 05/06/2021 15:16

I think it’s less effective obviously reading it all in one go than getting the updates as it happened IYSWIM, which is obviously how it was meant to be read. Quite a good use of the medium and I’m surprised no one has done a better one since that I’ve seen!

merryhouse · 05/06/2021 14:51

@PredFerry don't bother. It was fairly tedious and went on for far too long with a ridiculous number of irritating photos (I mean fair play, it was obviously a lot of work) and I think we're supposed to assume that David took over his body because it ends with him reassuring us that Everything Is Fine and he's working on some other projects right now.

I tried writing supernatural stuff in my teens. It was a huge disappointment to me to discover that overtly Christian themes simply ruined the story.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/06/2021 14:35

SinkGirl how did this end? Every time I get down as far as the warehouse photos the web page resets 🙄 I’ve tried about twenty times!

If that happens, it means Dear David has found you. I'm so sorry Flowers

I don’t usually do the woo threads but the ghost in the mill was brilliant because it was spun out do long with great updates.

I’m sorry to PP but I can’t help laughing at you having a harp.Grin

SinkGirl · 05/06/2021 14:31

@PredFerry I had to download the app to be able to get it to work as I had the same issue!

It gets better from there so I would have a look if you can be arsed.

The ending is a bit too subtle I think but overall I really enjoyed the stuff leading up to it, even if it does get a bit silly at one point!

Can anybody remember the lady who saw her neighbors daughter in the garden but she didn’t know she had actually died? Think she thought she had badly applied foundation on but it turned out the young lady had been jaundiced before death? No idea if it was true but it stuck with me.

ASundayWellSpent · 05/06/2021 14:17

God I would have absolutely shit myself. One night out walking my mastiff in the countryside for his last wee not far from our house I saw something that looked like a supernatural black wolf stood in front of me and had just persuaded myself it was a trick of the shadows when my dog went full attack mode snarling his head off and trying to push me back behind him. Goosebumps writing it, I legged it all the way home.

Love these

ChrissyPlummer · 05/06/2021 13:46

Thank you @BlueTriskel

JudyGemstone · 05/06/2021 13:26

I sent it to my friend when she moved to savernake forest last year 🤣

It’s a good yarn, don’t really care if it’s true or not

TailFeatherz · 05/06/2021 13:18

Anybody who finds it scary needs to have a word with themselves

It's a made up story and not remotely frightening

Macncheeseballs · 05/06/2021 13:15

The dog in the woods story is very similar to 'woman in black'

Biffbaff · 05/06/2021 13:12

The boy in the disco doesn't really do it for me. Sorry!

I really like stories where people leave the room and then come back in and find things piled up in mysterious ways, or something they have lost just appears suddenly. The above story of the humanoid thing is also great!

Jezebel scary stories (annual Halloween blogs) are great if anyone needs pointing to some more.

BlueTriskel · 05/06/2021 12:57

I would have no idea how to find it again, @ChrissyPlummer, and I can't even remember if it was a thread of its own, or a contribution to a general 'woo' thread, but it was from an OP who said she and her husband were travelling back home from somewhere (maybe in Scotland?) and got snowbound. They called to a nearby house which turned out to have new 'camping pods' (there was an animated discussion of what exactly these were) owned by a helpful couple called Tristan and Molly, who allowed them to stay in one overnight. The OP woke up in the night in their pod to find her husband gone, discovered him outside in the snow, possibly screaming (or she'd been woken up by screaming and he was now unconscious and injured?) carried him up to the house with a helpfully-on the scene Tristan, who took the DH off to shower and dress. I can't remember what the DH said -- but not much, possibly something about an appearance by a man with a gun? Then for some reason, the OP and her husband went home and never discussed the incident again, until a year later when Tristan and Molly invited them to stay again, and said they had information about what had happened which for some reason they couldn't put in a letter. And rather than saying 'No, thanks, we're not going back to the Bates Motel Camping Pods', they were all set to return. But I think the OP flounced, because people were laughing.

From what I remember the OP was strongly pushing for a supernatural explanation (or implying that what eventually 'explained' it) was supernatural, but people kept pointing out that if your husband was attacked by something in the snow and the owner of the remote house suddenly appeared to 'help' from a distance in the middle of a night time snowstorm, your first instinct would probably be that said owner was possibly more likely to be involved in the attack than a passing camping pod ghost, and not meekly let him take your husband off alone upstairs...

I think I remember it because it really didn't hang together at all. Grin

ChrissyPlummer · 05/06/2021 12:40

What was the Tristan & Molly story?

BlueTriskel · 05/06/2021 12:08
@BlueTriskel wondering now if it was a banned poster.
See, I’m happy with banned posters who can tell a good story. I mean, as long as it’s about something harmless, obviously.

OMG! I'm not usually such a baby but I noped out when he was zooming in on the photos. Not today, evil ghost-child 🤣
