AIBU to ask someone to please direct me to the CREEPIEST story I’ve ever heard on MN, about someone who was house sitting in a forest and then a dog got out... if you’ve read the story, you’ll know it. Much to my OH’s annoyance I was up till about 1am trawling the woo threads in Classics but couldn’t find it 😫

Someone told me about this thread. Ghost in the mill thread was me. It was removed as some posters pieced together the information, found out what my business was, and posted my identity online.

Oh that's bizarre, I literally went looking for that story last night (at bed time, idiot that I am).

Weird coincidence that it's popped back up today!

I was going to look for it too last night, but waited until today! 😅

Mine isn't a ghost story although having worked in some very old hospitals I have experienced some unexplainable things.
Mine was when I was working on an orthopedic trauma ward. A young lad, about 18 was brought in who was the sole survivor in a car crash which had killed the other 3 occupants. He had multiple injuries and never regained consciousness but he breathed independently and had a feeding PEG tube etc for food, fluids and medication. He was considered fit to be an organ donor after multiple examinations. They had the transplant team in theatre waiting so it was the real deal. His parents had found a degree of solace in this as his brother had tragically died in the crash. Well bugger me. This kid has some sort of miracle recovery while the teams are getting ready in theatre. I absolutely kid you not. He comes back to the ward, tells me he remembers me reading the crickets scores out to him and playing music to him. He leaves hospital, carries on with life and goes and gets killed in another car crash about 6 months later. Creeped me out. Couple of years later that film Final Destination came out. It's always made me wonder if your time's up it's up. This was down in Somerset in the early 90's.

Or that 18 year old boys are statistically more likely to drive dangerously and are disproportionately likely to be involved in serious road accidents?

I loved the camping pods in Scotland in a storm ghost story where the husband was screaming in the snow and the owner was called Tristan. But apparently that was total bollocks too.

Of course it was bollocks. It wasn’t even competently-executed bollocks like the Savernake Forest story (though I feel that two utterances from two supernatural voices in that one is overkill).

The best one for me was the person and her partner living in a rental house that had some sort of extra room off the kitchen I think, a small coat cupboard I think (was AGES ago) which, after they moved out, was apparently not there, not in the particulars and not in the house with the new people!!
I assume it's not true but it really stuck with me, wish I could read it again!

@Twelveisthebestnumber that gave me a shiver. My friend was talking about your time being up and people surviving things just to be killed a short time later. I'm not one for fate but it makes you think.

Did they not check he was brain dead?

Be warned, that link I posted is mainly murders and the like, rather than scary stuff in the woods.

Icecreamsoda99 · 07/06/2021 07:47

Mine is nowhere near as scary or interesting but I still think about it.

I must have been about twelve at the time and my grandparents took me to the White Cliffs experience in Dover castle. There were guided tours and I remember at one point we were going through one of the tunnels which had another tunnel branch off it. I glanced to look down the branch off and there at the far end of the corridor was a human male figure lit in green light, mouth moving but no sound, almost like an animatronic or a projection/hologram. I didn't think anything off it apart from guessing it was part of the experience and we would loop around back to it later in the tour. The trouble was we didn't.

At one point the tour guide started telling us a story of a woman on another tour who had seen a ghost, a man working in one of the rooms that she thought was a tour guide, until he turned and walked right through her and she collapsed. I still don't know what I saw at the end of that corridor, perhaps it was some special effect that my tour didn't take in because it was broken or something, or that it was a set up to freak out the tourists (The tour guide told the story after I had seen it. But if it was I would have thought more people would know about it) or if I really did see something supernatural.

custardbear · 06/06/2021 22:31

@paradisaea - ooooohhh what's your story about this place?

Legoandloldolls · 06/06/2021 22:27

I remember most of these. Also a werewolf one in a caravan park. Every I stay in a Haven I have walk extra fast at night after the pub now 😂

Suzi888 · 06/06/2021 22:05

I recall a thread, very vaguely about a family that went to stay in an old country house. They arrived very late and went straight to bed.
There was some scratching /whining at the bedroom door, which opened slightly and the wife presuming it was the family dog dropped her hand to pet the dog, let it sniff and lick her hand and nodded off to sleep.

In the morning they went down to eat breakfast and catch up with their friends and ask where the dog was. Their hosts said they had no pets /dog.🥴

I've told this on here before but it is still something that we can't explain!

When DH and I first moved in together we moved in to a church/monastery that had been demolished apart from the outside and then nice apartments had been built in like the shell of this old building.

We had seen a few apartments up for rent in this building and always missed out on getting one, so when one came up on Rightmove we jumped at the chance to move in and just called the agent and said we'd rent it without viewing first. I know that wasn't a very smart move but this building was beautiful and but he apartments were all similar and we'd seen 5 before now.

We move in and everything is great. It was a duplex apartment with the bedroom and a bathroom upstairs. The downstairs was an open plan area with a big island in the middle with the oven and hob built in to it. At the back of the kitchen was a small alcove/corridor. Maybe about ten steps from the end of the kitchen to the end of this little part. There were two stone steps leading down to it and the floor was stone with old brick walls. We assumed it was just a bit of character left in from the refurbishment of the old building and loved it.

When friends came over we used to use the alcove bit to hang up coats. There wasn't a light there during the day the light from the big windows lit it up but of a night it would get quite dark. After a few weeks I started to feel uneasy being home alone, especially if I was standing in the kitchen part. The end of the island was where the hob and oven was and the alcove started directly opposite the end of the island. So if I was cooking it was behind me to the left. I had my back to it. I mentioned this to a few friends and they said that they always felt scared going to get coats and bags but just thought that was because it was dark. Another thing too, in front of hob was a sort of half wall that went from the island counter top all the way up to the ceiling so say if you were stood in certain parts of living room area you couldn't see the oven or see the alcove part.

One day, DH was sat on the couch and I was cooking. I could see him from where I was standing. I was looking at the pan and then suddenly felt someone grab my left shoulder. I thought it was DH so I turned but no one was there. I turned again and DH was still sat down. There was no way he could have done it. I told him what had happened and he said that had happened to him a few times while he had been stood there.

Our 6 month contract ended and we decided to move as I had a new job. The agents were showing someone around and we were on our way out when we bumped in to them in the corridor. They were showing a friend of a friend around so we had a little chat and they later rented it out.

We bumped in to them a few months later and asked how they were enjoying it there and they said they loved it but asked if we found the kitchen drafty. I said no but always thought the alcove bit was a bit chilly. They looked a bit puzzled and asked me when I meant. I explained where I meant and they said "There's just a wall there. There's always just been a wall there." I asked if it had been put up perhaps after we moved and they said that it wasn't there when they looked around and that they would absolutely remember seeing that.

We went home and looked back through photos and in the six months we'd lived there all the photos we'd taken hadn't included that part. There were photos where the wall by the oven had covered where it had been. Nobody else seemed to have captured this mysterious corner of the apartment apart from one who had taken a photo from the front of the island but half of the photo where it would have been was just black.

I went on this persons Facebook to see photos and there was one of them sat on the island with their keys with the entire back wall of the kitchen behind them- no alcove at all. They moved in the day after we left so there wouldn't have been time to put up a new wall.

DH and I were so confused but then we thought about it more and realised that the entire inside of the building had been removed so why would there be an old brick and stone part?

We looked back at the pictures the estate agent had put on and there weren't any that included that area so couldn't tell if it was there or not.

I honestly don't know what it was or if we all imagined it. There is just no explanation for it at all but I'm just glad that my friends and DH had at least seen it too!

@Pinkywoo

Did the property have the word Chapel in it's name? If so please PM me the first letter of the name of the settlement. It sounds familiar.

Do say it is 'L' ? Smile

custardbear · 06/06/2021 20:02

@Pinkywoo - brilliant - bloody spooky 😱

viques · 06/06/2021 19:56

But were the chickens still there in the morning? Would have been a better ending if the chicken shed was open, the door creaking in the breeze and all the chicks vanished without trace, not a feather in sight , except maybe for one who crouched under the nest boxes and who never squawked or laid an egg again.........

@custardbear

There was a story I thought was creepy on a woo thread, I can't remember much detail, but a woman and her partner lived in a rental home and there was a small cupboard at the back of one of the rooms, I think they put coats or something in there. They moved out and went back, I think maybe a friend lived there sometime after and there was no cupboard, not covered up or filled in, just no sign of a cupboard ever being there and there was more about someone confirming no cupboard had ever been there - I'll try to find it ...
It was an alcove I think.
