Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

I live in a tiny village and have fields on 2 sides of my back garden. Neighbours on the attached side are lovely, but with 2 screeching kids who run up and down the garden screaming like that bloody haribou advert! As kids do.
If I sit in my garden with music, I always use headphones, because I like it loud. Why would I inflict my music on anyone?

MaMelon · 30/05/2021 17:50

Yeah, that’s two fingered response I knew you’d have vodka

Mrmoose23 · 30/05/2021 17:49

My neighbours bring their TV outside, they have attached it to the outside wall and watch football/sport. You can hear it from the front of the house. Drives me crazy as I hate sport! I’d rather hear music any day!

LemonRoses · 30/05/2021 17:48

Once in a blue moon might be fine but regularly is just rude.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/05/2021 17:47

@CoffeeWithCheese

Last year we had the horror of the self-appointed DJs putting on "lockdown discos" blasting music for the benefit of the entire street. If you criticised it you would think you'd personally shat on the NHS.
I am so glad we didn't have that😂

Music can be quite nice when it's for just a bit, not all the time. And when everyone coordinates, not making se ridiculous mash ups here with different neighbours 😂

frankenpoodle · 30/05/2021 17:47

I'd probably play some music of my own as a mild hint that if they can hear you, you can hear them. No need to blast them with high volume, though.

Vodkaandballoon · 30/05/2021 17:42

@MaMelon Because I don't want to use headphones and as I previously stated my neighbours and I are perfectly normal people who are not constantly irritated by petty crap like folks using their gardens.

EggysMom · 30/05/2021 17:35

Our 70s and 80s music is currently competing with next door's Alexa playing music post-2000 (bits of which I do recognise but most of it is crap). I would feel for the neighbour the other side but for the fact that her son's friends rev their cars and bikes under our window at 2am, and she has a voice like a foghorn...

Some of the parent /child arguments can be entertaining....

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 30/05/2021 17:30

My neighbour was sat blasting trance shit out the other night sat in his van outside his house. I tell you this I completely get it as I was sat raging at him, put some music on and do the same back until it sinks in with them

OverTheRubicon · 30/05/2021 17:27

@Vodkaandballoon

Honestly I'm not an anti-social dickhead, I'm a perfectly nice person & I get along well with all of my neighbours. I like to use & enjoy my garden & sometimes that will include listening to my perfectly put together sunny afternoon Playlist. If my neighbour asked me to turn it down I would but she's more likely to stand & chat over the fence. I guess we all live in very different worlds. Party on with your headphones 🎧
Yeah, like she and the others have to live in a world where they don't get to choose their own playlists.

In our crowded London terrace row we have noisy family get togethers, the old couple who smoke weed, the squabbling kids, the yappy dog and the cats that crap in my vegetable patch. All normal city living stuff. Yet the only thing that really annoys me is the normally nice family a few doors down who spend every sunny weekend chilling to the best of the 90s.

Music for relaxing is so personal, and enforcing it on others is so rude - in some ways more because unlike a party or some building, it is likely to go on as long as your neighbours are there, and is low level enough that you usually don't want to make a fuss.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 30/05/2021 17:22

Our neighbours are doing the same but at least we had a note to tell us this time. Can't complain really.

What I don't understand is having the music so loud that you have to shout over it. Why have it that loud - surely it's background music not a night club scenario .....

Notmoresugar · 30/05/2021 17:22

Feel for you - there's always one selfish ignorant twat.

Montalbanosono · 30/05/2021 17:21

Also have you actually asked whether they are understanding of your garden noise? They might very well hate it!

Montalbanosono · 30/05/2021 17:20

I live in quite a young area, people like to socialise and we’re all quite understanding of each other’s garden noise. I’ve never known anyone in rl care about a bit of music like they do on mn.

I don't mind the odd party. It's the constant loud music day in, day out that is annoying. My old neighbour used to have such loud music that I couldn't hear my radio on inside my house.

mumwon · 30/05/2021 17:20

those damn birds - no consideration -they start at 4 in the morning singing their heads off having a competition with the next door nest
& don't get me started on those pigeons - why do they have hoot down the chimney? & than all through the day non stop until the sun sets - & beyond
Grin

Viviennemary · 30/05/2021 17:19

Screeching brats, barking dogs, loud music. All dreadful.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/05/2021 17:18

@JemimaJoy

I am glad I no longer live in Britain. People are very grumpy. I didnt realise until I moved abroad how unnatural and bitter it is to be so thoroughly infuriated by the sound of our fellow humans simply enjoying their lives. Bit of music in the garden on a sunny day? HOW COULD THEY
Except that no one here has a problem with "bit of music". 🤷🏻
MaMelon · 30/05/2021 17:17

We’re very glad you don’t live in Britain anymore too Jemima - one less inconsiderate person inflicting their noise on everyone else. Win/win Smile

Mamanyt · 30/05/2021 17:14
@Mamanyt the trouble with that is generally they're drinking too. You can't reason with people who are drunk
This is very true. However, it is always wise to START trying to kill the fly with a fly-flap, then move on to the bazooka.

WTF99 · 30/05/2021 17:14

And now playing 'nowhere to run, nowhere to hide'.. ..oh the irony.

.

Imapotato · 30/05/2021 17:12

God I hope none of the music hating folks on this thread are my neighbours! Dd1 is currently having a leavers party in the garden and it’s quite loud. Not an every day occurrence!

Bigbluebuttons · 30/05/2021 17:09

It’s SO inconsiderate. I don’t mind ambient noise of people just doing their thing, but music is such an imposition. I’d have to go round and tell them.

spongedog · 30/05/2021 17:08

@Whammyyammy

Put speaker/music at the rear of your garden, baby shark on repeat, go out for lunch for a few hours. That'll get the message across
This. But set the volume loud enough so it can be heard by next door, but not so loud that others will hear.
