Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

I constantly see threads like this, I am trying not to be dramatic when I say that highlighting this sort of inconsiderate behaviour should have it's own 'day' ala world mental health day. I don't care if it's off before bedtime it's the friggin volume. Just turn it down. When the dear government finally introduce 24/7 drone surveillance I want them on this issue and the 'look we got a marquee in the garden' house a street away who think it is OK to impose their crappy 'best 90s ministry hits' bass thud compilation on the whole neighborhood at ear splitting, window shattering, bum hair curling volume each time they have an excuse to par tee. I actually am not exaggerating at all when I say the last event was as loud as the dance tent at glasto but relocated in a sleepy suburb. Worse was when the music went silent and left the sqwarks of the toad human revellers to be heard before the MC cut in with an 'oi oi oiiii'. Go to a fucking club. Or have one of those silent discos. I don't care if it's your 50th birthday, or if you just got promoted to chief bellend. Just fuck off.

Yanbu...the man who practiced his recorder ( badly) throughout lockdown drove dd demented!

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 31/05/2021 22:50

Fucking hell, I’m really glad I don’t live near you. You sound like a nightmare. Do you have a trampoline? I bet you do

And a hot tub. Both right next to the neighbours house but as far away from her own as possible.

TiberiusNero · 31/05/2021 22:37

@Feeasco

There is always some form of noise going on - one neighbour is keen on DIY, we all have friends over, play music, laugh out loud have noisy grandchildren around, have parties until 2am. It is part of life.and they dont mean harm. I have seen some neighbours from hell on a television programme once and that puts it into perspective. As long as it is not a regular thing I say live and let live ❤

Well, let people sleep if it's past midnight then. Don't be a prick

Good advice.

Watching 'neighbours from hell' doesn't put things in perspective at all.

Realising most people live amicably side by side, respect their neighbours rights to enjoy their homes too, keep their children and pets in order, do DIY at reasonable times etc puts things in perspective.

Anybody who doesn't live like that is on the wrong side of normal.

Leontine · 31/05/2021 21:54

@nannykatherine stuff like Matt Redman.

It’s like Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy etc but all about God and Jesus.

nannykatherine · 31/05/2021 21:33

What is Christian easy listening music???

"Live and let live", the phrase only used by the sort of people who think having parties til the early hours is ever acceptable.

MaMelon · 31/05/2021 20:39

That sounds like noisy hell.

200ft gardens, neighbours sit the house end and BLAST crap music through two RIDICULOUSLY massive speakers they’ve had installed outside.
My walls actually shake and we can’t hear each other even with all the doors and windows shut on a sweltering day.

Better than their open window grunting sex noises in the mid afternoon I suppose.

Vinomummyinlockdown · 31/05/2021 20:13

Every warm weekend day our 3 neighbours: - put their screaming toddlers out at 7.30am. Now their lawn. Work loudly on their multiple care with a mechanic mate. Jet wash for 3 hours straight. Beep car horns coming and going with 3 teenagers. Electrically trim trees and bushes for the day. Every damn time. People are shits. The end.

StoneofDestiny · 31/05/2021 20:07

Yes - listen to your music, in your garden at a volume just for your ears.

It's the morons who play their music in their garden loud enough that every body else has to listen to that music whether they want to or not.

Why the hell does anybody think that's acceptable. I imagine they are the same people who think their kids can wreck havoc in the neighbour hood too - because they live there and it's their neighbourhood. Morons.

Macncheeseballs · 31/05/2021 20:05

I always wear headphones in the garden

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/05/2021 20:04

Few weeks ago I had music on inside. Nice levels, m
Imho bit too up, but fine. Then I went just outside through open french door and heard nothing. Made me relise how the volume is difficult to gess when you are by it. And how loud some people have to have it inside that even neigbours outside can clearly hear it. I honestly stood just like 3 m (1.5 in and 1.5 out approx) away from Missy Knowitall and could barely hear a sound.

Angrywife · 31/05/2021 19:49

At top wack ** 🙄 autocorrect

Angrywife · 31/05/2021 19:48

@Teessider

It is rude and inconsiderate and I could have written your post. The trouble is, some people think that their wants trump other people's. They want to listen to music so they'll do it - and it's never at a low volume.

Some people are just twats

This!!

I listen to music in my garden, loud enough for me to hear it without annoying others.
There is zero need to play it at top walk so everyone in the neighbourhood have to listen to it too.

When my neighbours have their music on, it drowns out my music and why should I have to wear headphones just to be able to sit in my garden??

Rude. Entitled. Inconsiderate.

HellequineViriato · 31/05/2021 19:19

I was ok with the music, but I was not ok when I came out this morning to the garden to find it covered in discarded food and broken glass. I knew they were sleeping off a hangover...DS loves DJing and particularly enjoys Slayer and Venom. Need I say more. Round our way it chaos anyway fights, music, stabbing its a smorgasbord of antisocial behaviour.

MaMelon · 31/05/2021 19:09

I’m sitting on the back garden at the moment listening to the wood pigeons and other birds, next door chatting to their teens, some cars driving in and out of the cul de sac, the wind in the trees and people and their dogs on the woodland path that runs behind us. It’s all lovely - intermittent background noise that comes and goes. No-one blasting their choice of music at the rest of us - bloody brilliant Smile

SchrodingersImmigrant · 31/05/2021 19:09

THEIR garden

It's not just in their gardens though, is it. It's also in others's gardens.

I go by "would you tell someone to fuck off if they made that noise on a street in front of the house? If yes, then it's not ok for the back either" 😁

I have to say that tonight here is a bliss. It's making me nervous😂

Callingallskeletons · 31/05/2021 19:05

I think YABU to be complaining about others listening to music in the sunshine in THEIR garden... but YANBU if it’s religious/political/explicit language etc Christian pop would drive me crackers tbh, I’d definitely be cranking up the Sonos 😂😂😂

Ideasplease322 · 31/05/2021 18:55

I never understand why people think the entire neighbourhood should have to listen to their music just because it’s sunny.

I have no problem with people playing music low in their garden but I had two sets of neighbours blasting music yesterday - it was intolerable and I had to go out. People can be incredibly selfish

CandyLeBonBon · 31/05/2021 18:38

To be fair, music I can cope with. Fucking non stop barky dog on the other hand 😤

Gill61 · 31/05/2021 18:37

I had a neighbour one side playing Neil diamond that she plays every day and the other side is shouting at her children most of the day, so am I expected to just sit in my garden listening to them, well no I have my music on so I can’t hear them, not selfish at all.

QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis · 31/05/2021 18:31

That time of day on a Sunday are you sure it wasn't just a church service if it was that kind of music? There are a couple of places round our way doing outdoor services atm.
