Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

I think it’s incredibly selfish.

I’ve got no problem with most other garden noise, kids playing, lawn mowing, DIY, dogs. These are just noises from using the garden. But sticking music on in the garden knowing neighbours can hear it is really just saying sod everyone else.

Ah I feel your pain, my neighbour is the same. Plus whenever she sees someone outside she has to start showing of, screeching and singing at the top of her voice. I was outside yesterday with my headphones on just to block her out a bit. We've got a driveway between us but for her attached neighbours on the other side it must be a nightmare.

Abouttimemum · 30/05/2021 12:32

I HATE it when people play music loudly in the garden. Hate it. Yeah fair play out a bit on for your own amusement in your own garden, but there is absolutely no need for everyone to hear. It’s so rude.
One of our neighbours does it and it gives me the rage!

Blossomtoes · 30/05/2021 12:31

You need to go and live in the middle of nowhere, OP. I expect you’d complain about the birds singing then.

newnortherner111 · 30/05/2021 12:29

Tell them it is a bit loud, ask them to turn it down. From your description not something with foul language or misogyny or other forms of hatred, so just about the noise level.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 30/05/2021 12:27

I’m listening to a screeching competition one side where the neighbours GDs are in the paddling pool and the other side constant yapping on dogs reacting to the screeching, I’m tempted to turn Michael Ball R2 up to full volume just to drown it all out.

Teessider · 30/05/2021 12:25

It is rude and inconsiderate and I could have written your post. The trouble is, some people think that their wants trump other people's. They want to listen to music so they'll do it - and it's never at a low volume.

Some people are just twats

Crazycakelady17 · 30/05/2021 12:23

Oops DH is outside with his friend laying a new patio with music playing I don’t think it’s rude it’s just as annoying as our local church bells chiming every hour of the local school kids playing out we have two within 100 metres
Put some headphones in or go inside

Mammyofasuperbaby · 30/05/2021 12:23

Feeling your pain op, but I dont think anything can be done unless it is deafeninly loud.
We've had the new neighbours a few doors away blasting music all day yesterday until midnight last night - normally it till the early hours

Imapotato · 30/05/2021 12:21

But I know that my feelings on this do not correlate with most people on mumsnet 😂

TheQueef · 30/05/2021 12:20

Headphones any use to you?
I have very very quiet neighbours except next door who's a childminder and the noise can get ridiculous (but can't be helped) my headphones are always ready charged now.

bluebell34567 · 30/05/2021 12:19

ask them how long will they play that music that you have headache or child sleeping.

ProfessorInkling · 30/05/2021 12:19

It’s rude and inconsiderate.

bluebell34567 · 30/05/2021 12:18

i feel your pain.

Imapotato · 30/05/2021 12:17

I think during the day people can do what they want in their gardens. It’s only really annoying if very late at night and it’s keeping people awake.

If you feel you want to put on your own music, go ahead, it’s your garden.
