Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

Giant paddling pool + small herd of suncream greased toddlers for me today Grin

I can't hear a thing, listening to a very sedate gardening podcast, occasional misty eyed glance over the fence.
Best £35 I've spent.

OMG - Flymo now off and he's just said 'alexa turn up the volume. I willing DH to lean over the fence and shout 'Alexa turn down the volume!

bigbluebus · 30/05/2021 14:17

Neighbour (music playing one)is now mowing the lawns so we can only hear the boom boom boom now over the sound of the Flymo - not sure which is worse!

PearlclutchersInc · 30/05/2021 14:12

Sitting here knackered and headachy after a tiff with our neighbours last night.

Every bank holiday weekend in the last year - never mind covid, never mind social distancing or any other thing - just at bed time - the volume gets cranked up, their mates all troop in, the noise level escalates and then they wonder why we get upset.

Selfish little bastards (and for the record I dont give a flying fuck about how many there are, I just don't want to hear them).

mybrainhertz · 30/05/2021 14:09

Inflicting your choice of music on other people is selfish. People can listen to it through headphones or earbuds if they need music in the garden. Neighbours can't escape from it and it's intrusive and annoying. I suppose you could ask them to turn it down, but most people seem to either ignore reasonable requests or turn it up these days.

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/05/2021 13:57

I'd rather that than my current soundtrack...

Her next door who sounds like Vicky Pollard aged 65... thick accent 'yer but no but yer but no but ennit tho... yer but no but i know wot yer mean e's such a DINLO...'

She's working her way through her phone book, telling the same tale to each relative, bitching about one of the kids girlfriends, each time she tells the tale the villain of the piece gets exaggerated just a little bit further.

She's got zero volume control and her fag smoke is stinking out my living room.

Want to swap?

the80sweregreat · 30/05/2021 13:53

I find it annoying too.
Nobody seem to have any respect for anyone anymore when it comes to 'noise pollution. '

GillianAnderson · 30/05/2021 13:51

@Crazycakelady17

Oops DH is outside with his friend laying a new patio with music playing I don’t think it’s rude it’s just as annoying as our local church bells chiming every hour of the local school kids playing out we have two within 100 metres Put some headphones in or go inside
Church there before you and most probably school Confused

I always wonder about these threads, as someone who never plays music at all in the garden, how loud the people playing the music think they are being. Do the realise that everyone around them hears it too, or do they think that the fence/hedge/garden wall blocks it completely? I think I'm wondering if they are 'don't know' or 'don't care' about their neighbours.

Peach01 · 30/05/2021 13:50

It is inconsiderate to have it playing at a level where it's bothering other neighbours. You wonder if people are hard of hearing or just selfish.
It's a certain type who dictate what the whole street listens to and prevent other people being able to enjoy some peace in their own home. I'm sure they'd hear it just fine if they turned it down a bit.

bigbluebus · 30/05/2021 13:47

I just asked my DH if he's on MN when I read this - although our neighbour's choice is more Ibiza style (we're late 50's so it's not really our taste). We've been passively aggressively discussing what shite is playing and the Shazamming it so we can announce the song and singer. They don't seem to be taking the hint. At the moment it's just Dad & 2 DCs but I know when she gets back from work later it will ramp up a notch and she will sing along too! Plus they'll yell to each other so they can hear themselves over the music. I was tempted to play some Shostakovich on Alexa in retaliation but may hold that one in reserve for later. All other neighbours - including those with small DCs keep it down at a considerate level - it's just the one's over the back who lack the self awareness.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 30/05/2021 13:42

I'd go for Slipknot myself.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 30/05/2021 13:40

YANBU. Wish it were a fucking criminal offence to blast your fucking music EVER. I'm so bloody sick of people foisting their fucking music on others. NO ONE ever wants to hear your music. There's no end of ill I wish on such inconsiderate cunts.

SionnachRua · 30/05/2021 13:40

I'd be sticking on Motorhead for a bit personally Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 30/05/2021 13:39

My neighbour plays her guitar and sings Christian songs in the garden.

I just want to kill her really.

Whammyyammy · 30/05/2021 13:36

Put speaker/music at the rear of your garden, baby shark on repeat, go out for lunch for a few hours.
That'll get the message across

SinkGirl · 30/05/2021 13:25

We’ve currently got three neighbours battling it out for the loudest outdoor music award. One house has a barbecue and plays music every weekend day, even when raining (they have a covered area).

BadgeronaMoped · 30/05/2021 13:04

Saying that, there used to be an older gentleman up the road from me who'd listen to 50s rock and roll as he tinkered with his motorbike. It always made me smile, more so when his old mates would come round on their bikes too.

BadgeronaMoped · 30/05/2021 13:01

Wankers.

IEat · 30/05/2021 13:00

I live in a block of flats and at 3am for the past week I’ve been woken up by people having sex! The banging the ooohhhhh yessss the groaning.... last about 10 minutes!!!!

VeganVeal · 30/05/2021 12:55

Its is the Lords day, we should rejoice and be thankful for the beautiful day he has given us.

Join in with their music, praise be sister

murbblurb · 30/05/2021 12:52

It is selfish to play music that can be heard outside your property. It is not for the op to put up with just because others live nearby.

Wear headphones or go inside with your music.

PrtScn · 30/05/2021 12:48

I feel your pain. It’s very unsocial when half the village can hear it. Neighbour in the next street starts his disco at 7:30am ish when it’s nice. Don’t know how his immediate neighbours cope.

RolloTomassi · 30/05/2021 12:42

I don't do this (though I'll very rarely play music inside, loud enough to hear from my garden but not loud to neighbours).

It depends what kind of neighbour they are generally. If this is a one-off I'd find it annoying but would shrug it off, if it stops at a reasonable hour. If they're the type of selfish arsehole who blasts music every time the sun is out, I'd get much more wound up.

shouldistop · 30/05/2021 12:33

You could ask them to turn it down, unless they're dick heads then I'm sure they will.
