Lovely day, neighbours playing music in garden

Live in a detached house, so it’s not as though we have anyone too close, and reasonable sized gardens, but we do have other houses around us, so don’t expect silence.

Neighbours over the back are in their garden as it’s a lovely day, fair enough so are we, but they have also got their music playing. Loudly.

Aibu to think it’s the height of rudeness to have music blaring in the garden knowing full well others around can hear it too? It’s Christian easy listening type of music.

Tempted to put a bit of Motörhead on the Sonos, but that would be a bit passive aggressive. So I’m just stewing in silence and posting here instead - it’s certainly not making me feel very Christian!!

Just put some music on very loud, briefly, like half a track, then turn it down.
They might get the hint.
Worth a try?

Vodkaandballoon · 30/05/2021 16:17

@PassMeTheWotsits, Nice try but nope my neighbours aren't mumsnetters so they don't have any problems with us using our garden in a perfectly normal way. Sometimes they even indulge in similar garden activities & guess what? Noone has an issue

  • How is it rude & offensive to play music in your own garden?. I was lucky enough to buy a house with a garden & I will bloody well use it. I will play some music, my kids will have nerf wars out there & camp out with their friends. I will have friends over for drunken bbq's, hell I might even get a hot tub this year. All of that is OK because it's MY garden.• From the horse’s mouth people - this is why asking for civilised courtesy and awareness of how this kind of behaviour impacts others will get you nowhere.
thecatneuterer · 30/05/2021 16:12

I've just asked my neighbours to turn their music down. And they have. You could always try that too.

And your neighbours will be on here complaining about the annoying cow next door

I can just imagine going to a party at some of your houses. Everyone sit still & we'll listen to music on our headphonesSmile
Having fun doesn't mean whole estate has to listen to you all afternoon. There is a difference between normal people noise and blasted up Phil Collins.

@Mythologies

Why do people suggest headphones!!! I don’t want to wear headphones in the garden- I want to listen to the birds and reasonable children noise and maybe the occasional muted music. The FUCKERS who have had horrible excruciatingly loud base on since 8 this morning - BTW they are at the bottom of the garden two doors down- should wear headphones. I will wear headphones if I want to listen to the radio because the neighbours should NOT be expected to have to listen to my radio. What the fuck is wrong with some people And yes - when it stops for a few minutes is is like when a headache goes - pretty sure headphones don’t even keep that level of base out
Because they're selfish pricks who honestly believe it's their 'right' to noise pollute everyone else.

hedgehogger1 · 30/05/2021 16:03

One of my neighbours does this. It winds me up out of all proportion. The bird song is lovely when they stop

StarCourt · 30/05/2021 16:03

I've currently got the neighbour with her baby and friend in the garden behind mine. I can hear every word of their conversation including the many 'fucks' it's peppered with as they are talking so loudly. The baby is crying and the combined noise is making my dogs bark ( we've had no neighbours for months )
The neighbours next to me are shouting at me to shut my dogs up.
We've all retired into the house with curtains closed for coolness, windows closed so me and dogs can't hear them and put the radio on to stop the noise

Oops DH is outside with his friend laying a new patio with music playing I don’t think it’s rude it’s just as annoying as our local church bells chiming every hour of the local school kids playing out we have two within 100 metres Put some headphones in or go inside
Church bells. Oh, you're THAT person.
HalzTangz · 30/05/2021 16:02

I personally feel 'noise laws' should be changed. Others shouldn't have to listen to loud music day or night.
Surely consideration should be taken, music at a volume that doesn't ruin other peoples right to a peaceful life

SchrodingersImmigrant · 30/05/2021 16:01

German, Czech, Slovakian brass bands are amazingly annoying, if you need something to play😂

It is annoying for real though. Especially when it's more of them playing different and you just sit there thinking wtf is wrong with people.
Also, since we are on summer topic and after last few weeks.

Fire lighter liglquids or block. There is no need for whole bottle! If someone can't light bbq up without that, get fucking gas, pike the rest of us😂 I have now beautiful garden time with 3 types of music from different directions and smell of these fire starters for last hour.

British summer, eh

oneglassandpuzzled · 30/05/2021 16:01

Outside party times.

oneglassandpuzzled · 30/05/2021 16:01

Because you’re inflicting your taste in music on everyone else. Kids playing and lawn mowing is different. Parties with music, occasionally, fair enough. But we don’t want to hear your music so put some headphones on.

On bank holiday Sunday? Yeah, that’s annoying.
BetterThanKleenex · 30/05/2021 15:52

OP do we live in the same house? My neighbours are playing and singing hymns very loudly and have their bbq blasting smoke around the street with their screechy kid carol singing too. DH is bringing out some speakers :)

comingintomyown · 30/05/2021 15:51

YANBU. I’m trying to be reasonable about the dog two doors down barking outside on and off all day from 7am ffs

SunnyMustard · 30/05/2021 15:50

Why are British people (assuming here) such cowards. Suffer in silence and mope about it, how mature. Just have a chat and I'm sure they'll be happy to turn the volume down a bit.

katy1213 · 30/05/2021 15:50

Ask them what Jesus would do?

Meatshake · 30/05/2021 15:50

My old neighbour used to do this, absolute twatting cow of a fish wife, vaguely sure she was an alcoholic too. she ended up having a go at me for idling my car for too long near their house (it was 35 degrees, I just wanted 5 mins of not feeling it cos I was 8 months pregnant) so I told her she was a fine one to talk about being a decent neighbour and copied her faux-essex accent yelling "alexaaaaar play the beeegeeeeeeez" which she did all hours of the day or night. She stfu fairly rapidly 🤣

impressivelycunty · 30/05/2021 15:48

Put on Tubular Bells, take an upside down cross and start hissing at them over the fence.

MaMelon · 30/05/2021 15:44

YANBU - inconsiderate fuckers. If you want to listen to music outside invest in a pair of headphones and stop inflicting your choice of music on others.
