Ovex threadworm hell -4 days

I have read literally every thread (shudder at the word) on the entire sodding internet about these little bastards.

They’re supposed to be dead ‘within a few days’ after taking ovex. It’s been four and I’ve checked and they’re still there!!

Someone please tell me they die soon?!

@Humblebumbleoh Exactly! I still haven't reached that point either, though I still continue to bloody clean. If you're still seeing them (alive) I would contact your Gp again he/she might be more understanding/helpful than mine.

@BBS20 @mootymoo this is the thing!! You take one dose, which is supposed to kill adult worms ‘in several days’, but it takes 2 weeks for worms to hatch so you take a second dose to kill worms that hatch after 2 weeks. But if you don’t kill the originals - which is what we’re saying - there’s no point whatsoever doing the hygiene measures. The hygiene stuff is to prevent reinfection. im not even at that point, I haven’t had a single day where there haven’t been worms, they’re just NOT DYING!!

No you take one dose then a second 2 weeks later. Takes that long to fully work alas

It's been nearly 3 months for me and I can't get rid of the blighters. Trust me I've tried everything! I have felt them every day. I've taken Ovex - even double dosing weekly and then taking it every few days. The hygiene measures everyone bangs on about will not make an ounce of difference if you can't kill off the adult worms to begin with. Each worm lays 10,000+ eggs so it's incredibly difficult to not ingest or breathe them in.

How are you all doing now? I remember it took a week to get rid of for us. I hated it. Two doses but I was a maniac. I changed bedding every day, every carefully, making sure not to shake it. Toys were bagged up and either sterilised in the bath with Milton, washed in the washing machine or put in the loft for 3 weeks because of the fucking eggs. I hoovered every day. Cleaned the bath 3 times a day (after each bath) and sprayed and wiped down the loo and sink after every visit. Absolutely hated the experience.

@Humblebumbleoh It was about 4 years ago. It was own brand ovex but exactly the same active ingredient at the same strength.

My daughter had recurrent stomach ache and got referred to a consultant. Everything was fine on xray, blood tests, allergy tests etc. and when I mentioned she had recurrent worms, he said that they can cause stomach ache and he prescribed 1 ovex tablet per day for 4 days on the trot. Then one a week for another 4 weeks. It seemed to do the trick. He said one tablet sometimes just isn't enough.

I had some discovered during a colonoscopy. I was told to take over 3x a day for 5 days, and then to repeat in 2 weeks. I had no symptoms or idea I had them. We did the family and hubby once to be sure and again 2 weeks later.

Thanks Ookkaayy. No complaints about bum and he’s never slept through the night so disrupted is our norm!

@LostInMoab They would have disrupted sleep and would be complaining A LOT about an itchy or tickly bottom. I'd check their bottom to be sure.

Waiting for a call back from doctors. Two doses of ovex and still seeing adult worms almost ten days later

This is a really stupid question, but how can you tell if you’re seeing worms in poo or just fibre? We had them a few months ago and I thought they were all gone but I still feel like I see them in my toddler’s poo all the time (not moving) - DH reckons it’s just fibre I’m seeing and I’m completely paranoid... (he may well be right!)

I’ve had the little buggers before. I seem to remember the only way I got rid of them was to wash my bumhole in excruciatingly hot water with some frequency say every 4 hours when home (and yes) that included at night.

Take some ground pumpkin seeds, about a tablespoon offer day for the lifecycle. It paralyses them, so should stop the discomfort pretty quickly. While paralysed, they just pass. Carrots are supposed to do the same but I've never had any luck.

I've used pumpkin seeds successfully a few times, including while pregnant when I didn't want to take ovex

Try pumpkin seeds

Ugh we had them last year but luckily the ovex worked. I’ve heard they’re so common in young children that some drs actually recommend all families taking a dose once or twice a year as routine

Make sure you’re boil washing all bed sheets, towels and hoovering the mattresses too. Trim finger nails and keep washing hands.
