Ovex threadworm hell -4 days

Did you see new live worms after the 14 days? I think another course will do it! If you see any then take another dose that day. I took 4 doses, one every week, and that did the trick (because I saw a live worm 6 days after the first dose, eurgh).

Has anyone get any advice for me to finally get rid of a recurring infection? I’m loosing my mind with trying to keep up with extra washing/cleaning and trying to prevent my 4mo catching. I’m exhausted. Already completed the standard 2 dose course (14 days apart) dr just prescribed the same course and I’m worried it won’t work again!

I think the key is to dry the eggs out so they die.
Autumn was always peak worm season for us and where we live its cold and wet so having the heating cranked up helped a lot. However, that was 5 years ago before the heating was more than the morgage so it might not be as cost effective now.

There will be methods of getting rid of them that work better for some folk than others so I don't want to say I'm the worm guru but I can honestly say, we've not had them for years. Until I saw the notification for this thread I don't think I've even thought about them for donkeys.

I can't believe this thread was nearly 5 years ago! But guess what? Mine have gone, yes gone!! I posted way back to say they never go but I followed the advice from IDontLikeZombies and think it's been about a year that me & DS haven't had them. I even have a pack of ovex left over just in case.
So I reckon if you stick to the regime religiously you will conquer the little white shit bags!!! Good luck

ugh yeah it’s not controllable at all really, is it. I didn’t realise ovex didn’t work for some people. I saw a live worm 6 days after taking it and took another dose promptly, that was 12 days ago, I then took a third dose 3 weeks after the first dose, that was 4 days ago. Let’s see how we go….

@Humblebumbleoh.. I found your thread (worm!) thread and wondered if you ever managed to get rid of them? We have them recurring every few months here. The longest we have gone without them is 6 months i think. They ALWAYS come back. I have had them on and off for 40, yes 40, years!! Once you have them, they don't go. We have tried everything, washing everyone and everything, boiling pants and bedding, sticking everything in a bin liner for 2 weeks. Nothing works. They always come in the autumn and return every few months.
DS had about 10 very active adults in his poo last night and a few days ago I found only one young one. Treated DS with Ovex liquid which i always keep in the cabinet and I took two doses, one 2 days after the first. Ran out of it now. What I don't understand is why is there nothing else available and why did they discontinue Pripsen? The gp wouldn't prescribe anything and Ovex is expensive if you have to keep using it.
Well I'm resigned to it now after 40 years but don't want the same for DS. Nothing keeps them easy forever. They can only be superworms!

@Foresttheout I’m sure you are facing more chilling parasites than the pesky threadworm yes it is expensive but probably cheaper than electricity bill is going to be from washing.

Just want doctors sign off so feel like I’ve ticked the boxes with DCs rather than just dosing them up (but I will do anyway if doc comes back with standard dosing advice)

@Anothernameanothertime not in the UK but in a developing country so worm ourselves as standard due to poor hygiene. I have never had an infection I was aware of but preventative measure here is tablets of either albendazole or mebendazole one a day for 3 days and recently when I admitted to the pharmacist I hadn't taken any for over a year he told me to take daily for 5 days then repeat the 5 days in 6 weeks time. Based on that I would say its pretty safe to go nuclear. I'm shocked at the cost in the UK though, I paid a few pounds for 10 days worth

Washing bums morning and night, and every time after going to the toilet works too. I had my own flannel and bidet towel, changed every time.... Oh, how I would have loved a bidet. I react to Ovex, so can't take it, and I got rid of them by doing this religiously for a couple of weeks. Everyone else in the family took the Ovex, and were fine.

@Humblebumbleoh how did you get on. We are still in a horrible bout of them. Talking to gp about dosing as want to go nuclear and do similar to pp eg ovex 3 days in a row then weekly for 6 weeks lifecycle.

I can’t wash any more

My DD cant take oral meds so we use vasaline which seems to do the teick if she gets them

Too much ovex isn’t going to kill you.

I’d crack on and take a dose every three days for 3 weeks. Get them gone.

Are you using the ovex tablets or suspension liquid? We’ve found the liquid way more effective than the tablets, absolutely no idea why but that’s what we found. Totally feel for you - we are thank God almost out of that stage now😅😅.....assuming you are regularly washing everything, make sure bums are washed/wiped with a wet wipe both morning and night and Vaseline on at night too.

I got told to clean & then put lots of Vaseline on to suffocate them! I did this for a few days morning & night & they were gone. Next dose 14 days later & no sign since.
