And want to move away? We moved from London to Bucks a few years ago. I’d grown up here and regret moving back. Nothing has changed & it will never feel like somewhere I want to be. OH on the other hand loves it. Anyone in the same boat?

I half hate and half love where I live. Loads of litter, traffic, depressing social problems. OTOH fantastic neighbours, great public transport, nice house.

blusteredbirds · 28/11/2021 17:54

Me! I used to love where I live, absolutely love it, the house, the community, the area. Exactly what I wanted for my life. I was so happy!

Moved (won't say why) now living somewhere I hate, hate everything about it, exactly the sort of place I used to be relieved I had not ended up living. After quite few years I have come to quite like the nation and city it is in, but the neighbourhood I still hate. My heart sinks everytime I drive back to my house (can't call it a home).

Staying here for kids' school but then will move. No way am I dying here.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 28/11/2021 17:52

I do. I live in a village that most people who visit think is lovely and quaint....the reality is it's as boring as hell and the sooner I'm out the better.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 28/11/2021 17:51

Hate our weird 60s semi. It's an ugly box. Bought in a hurry due to impending baby and v close to an excellent rated school, good postcode, nice family area etc. We'll be here at least another 10 years. I hate the layout.

Claphands · 28/11/2021 17:49

Yes! We moved 3 years ago from London to a seaside town and ive tried but i just dont like it! The locals are mostly unfriendly and think the place is amazing for some reason.
There are plus points like we now have a house not a flat and its easy to drive places round here but this is not where i want to live forever.
I never get that ‘im home’ feeling when we drive back from being away.

Chikapu · 28/11/2021 17:48

Yes, we moved to Ireland from the UK and I hate it for many reasons.

@Megan1992xx

Live by the sea absolutely love it! Would not swap it for the world.
What a weird response to the op
HumunaHey · 28/11/2021 17:44

Yeah I really don't like my area. It's really just a mile radius in certain directions of my house. It has a much more pleasant vibe, less crime and better links just a short drive from us.

But the main thing is our actual house and the road we live on. The house has such thin walls and, as we've grown as a family, it offers no privacy and/or quiet space if anything is going on in any other part of the house. We really didn't think it through when buying, just thought of the number of rooms and amount of space.

Our road is a cul de sac and, while I enjoy pleasantries with neighbours, I just don't want to be close friends. But everyone on this road seems to want to live in each others pockets. It's overbearing to the point I want to leave. The crime rates are also getting worrying.

ExpectingLady93 · 28/11/2021 17:43

Expensive*

ExpectingLady93 · 28/11/2021 17:43

I love where we live but worried we may have to move out our area to get the space we need. Our area is quite experience. Currently 2 of us and next year will be 3. We live in a 2 bed terrace house.

Worried where we will end up but we need the space.

Walesrecommendations · 28/11/2021 17:39

Coastal town in SE. Bought one of three houses we could afford 5 years ago. On the edges of a crappy estate, lots of drunks wandering about, drug dealers moved in opposite and now have constant cars coming and going all night slamming doors and beeping. Houses so close together and gardens so small I can hear my neighbours showering/pissing in the summer when everyone has their windows open. Generally the area is run down, bus shelter continually gets smashed, broken glass and bottles/dog shit sporadically. Traffic around the town is absolutely horrific as are the fumes at key roundabouts/traffic lights. It took me 50 minutes to drive 8 miles to work last week. Fortunately we're moving soon but yes I do hate where I live. Partly because it just isnt me. I grew up in the country, and living in such a busy area close to so many people makes me anxious and miserable.

Westfacing · 28/11/2021 17:34

I love where I live, inner London, wouldn't change it for the world.

I'm sorry for those who are unhappy with their surroundings - my late mother lived in a very dismal place and I could hardly bring myself to visit. I lived there for two years in my late teens and couldn't wait to get away - would never have returned if mother hadn't lived there.

Surroundings are so important.

Helpstopthepain · 28/11/2021 17:32

I love where I live. I grew up in some shitty places and feel really lucky to be where I am now.

Which is the absolute opposite of the OP’s question 😁

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Stick a pin in a map and try somewhere else.

Looking for a new relationship? Throw a brick out the window and marry whoever it hits.

I have been in this situation and moved. Lived on a big urban city in quite a run down part. Neighbours were horrible and we could here shouting through the walls. Teenagers hanging around alley across the road from our house. No nice parks. Severe lack of green/ nature. I couldn't imagine starting a family there.

We moved to the peak district when a job opportunity arose and we love it here!

If you can move, do. It made a huge difference to our happiness.

TorySteller · 28/11/2021 17:27

We hated it when we lived in our old house. New build estate that had a huge ASB problem. Constant parking wars. We could hear every single noise that came from the house attached to ours. We were also quite far away from any decent shops/restaurants.

We moved a couple of years ago and it’s unbelievable how much it has improved my mental health.

Darbs76 · 28/11/2021 17:25

I like where I live (Surrey) but it’s so expensive so planning to move back to wales - when youngest finishes school, another 4yrs!

PositiveLife · 28/11/2021 17:25

I have the opposite. I'd love to move back to where I grew up or similar (possibly halfway between there and where I live now) but I'm stuck where I am. Kids are settled in school, no jobs in the places I'd like to move to (for me) and house prices are ridiculous. I can't see that I'd ever be able to move back short of a lottery win.

I guess I'm lucky that I don't hate it here. I just feel I'd have a much healthier lifestyle elsewhere.

Comedycook · 28/11/2021 17:24

I love the area I live now... nothing special...just suburban London...but it's a "nice" road. I previously lived on a very noisy road in a rougher part of town, which I hated... disliking where you live has such a huge impact on your quality of life. It really is awful so I totally sympathise

Theteapot · 28/11/2021 17:21

Well I did hate where I lived, but then I moved to Brighton and I love it!

Envoitrevisage · 28/11/2021 17:18

I lived in Bucks, fell out of love with it and so I moved. Stick a pin in a map and try somewhere else.

Rubyupbeat · 28/11/2021 17:17

My area is getting worse by the month, was a lovely area 20 years ago, but is getting dangerous and over built on. Our road is really lovely, lookswise and neighbours wise, but we will definitely move out in the next few years. It's very sad.

Chasingaftermidnight · 28/11/2021 17:15

Yes. I like my house a lot but I just can’t make myself like the town we live in - well-known commuter town in South East. The worst thing about it is the traffic, the air quality is absolutely dire and it isn’t really possible to go for a nice walk through or round the town because of it.
