And want to move away? We moved from London to Bucks a few years ago. I’d grown up here and regret moving back. Nothing has changed & it will never feel like somewhere I want to be. OH on the other hand loves it. Anyone in the same boat?

I don't HATE it but it's not my ideal, it's run down and soulless. The primary schools are good but the secondary schools aren't brilliant. I can't afford to move though so I'll make the best of it.

FuglyHouse · 28/11/2021 18:48

Yes. I quite like our house but I really dislike the area. It's fairly dull and featureless and feels like we're in the arse end of nowhere. We came here for work so we're stuck for a while yet.

Mum0509 · 28/11/2021 18:24

I would prefer somewhere that's bigger and friendlier. We have a few years to go until DC finish school. But the light is at the end of the tunnel!

beastlyslumber · 28/11/2021 18:23

Me. I love my home and in many ways I'm lucky to live where I do. But I don't feel I fit in. Have managed to lose more friends here than I've made. Never really felt at home here. Since lockdown, it's become very obvious that I don't belong here. I felt trapped by my job for a long time but now I'm looking to move in the next few months. I've actually been talking about wanting to leave for years and years, but it's only recently that I've started to find the courage to think I'll actually do it. It takes a lot to make a massive move but I can't keep going on like this for another ten years or more.

@Megan1992xx

Live by the sea absolutely love it! Would not swap it for the world.
Wrong thread 🙄
Monty27 · 28/11/2021 18:20

@Westfacing

I love where I live, inner London, wouldn't change it for the world.

I'm sorry for those who are unhappy with their surroundings - my late mother lived in a very dismal place and I could hardly bring myself to visit. I lived there for two years in my late teens and couldn't wait to get away - would never have returned if mother hadn't lived there.

Surroundings are so important.

I also live in inner London and I didn't like it when I was bringing up young DC's it was always stressful. My marriage ended when they were very young and I was commuting and working full-time. The situation has changed greatly. DC's are all grown up and I absolutely love it now. There's so much green space and a great social scene. It was a long hard slog and now that I can move I don't want to 😳😂
Cottagepieandpeas · 28/11/2021 18:19

@Nanalisa60
Agree. I had no excuse because I grew up in the countryside so didn’t have any illusions.
It was love that made me move and for that reason alone I’m putting up with it.

Hopefully at some point we can move but highly unlikely it would be back to London.

Nanalisa60 · 28/11/2021 18:13

Cottagepieandpeas

I wonder how many more people will be saying the same as you in another few years, loads of people moved out of London to the country because of Covid!! Don’t really thing they have thought about it the countryside can be very boring.

lisaandalan · 28/11/2021 18:13

Meant to say and then you are stuck. X

LHOOQ · 28/11/2021 18:12

Yes, I really, really regret moving to the town we now live in! I'd move to so many other places, but dh isn't arsed. It's been the source of a few arguments actually.

But, on paper it's nice here and is good for the kids in terms of safety and schools, amenities etc. We've been here 7 years and I still hate it.

lisaandalan · 28/11/2021 18:11

@Darbs76
If I was you I wouldn't wait as when the children get older they don't want to go usually and then you're stuff because you don't want to leave them behind. X

megletthesecond · 28/11/2021 18:11

I've just realised I don't even have this house as "home" in my phone list. Because it doesn't feel like it. It's just the street name.
My old house isn't far away but the neighbours are nice and I had a view from my bedroom.

Mummadeze · 28/11/2021 18:10

I used to as we moved into a small, ugly flat to get my DD into a sought after primary school. My intention was to move after about a year but we ended up staying there for the entire six years until secondary applications. It was in a very suburban area - all houses, no shops. I didn’t like the area really or the flat itself. I now live nearer to a busy high street in a nicer, bigger flat and I am looking after it much better and feel more content.

Coffeesnob11 · 28/11/2021 18:09

I am going to move once my mortgage tix comes to an end next July. I love my house but I have ptsd and the event happened in this house so despite redecorating and changing the layouts of furniture I can never forget. Also the actual place have great facilities but is a huge town (city size) and although my road is quite nice we have had druggies dropping needles, I have had my car keyed a few times too. I am looking to move to a large village/small town still fairly local.

lisaandalan · 28/11/2021 18:09

I hate London and would love to move to a nice village, it dangerous, fighting, stabbing, bombs, shooting, mugging you name it I could go on. X

Oblomov21 · 28/11/2021 18:06

Hate living on a main road, for 20 years, yes really, was Dh's house when I met him. Occasionally look at other houses, but nothing is as good as what we have.

Chely · 28/11/2021 18:06

Can't wait to move but will be around 5 years before we can.

pointythings · 28/11/2021 18:02

Me. I live in a narrow minded Brexity Tory town where foreigners are frowned upon. A bit of a problem, since I am one. I've lived here for 22 years because it was where we could afford to buy at the time - my late husband needed to be close to work and didn't drive. Now my DC are grown up and at university. They're gay and guess what - this town is full of homophobes too.

I'm working on an escape.

Vates · 28/11/2021 18:01

Very little choice in where I live/move to. On disability benefits. Private renter as council takes years and there are even worse areas compared to this where they have their one bed flats. I have a nice landlord but the area is shit. It's close to town and a very deprived area. My street was in the local news just this past week with social housing tenants saying that it wasn't safe for them to raise their kids here; so obviously the new block of flats built as that's the only social housing.

I dream of a garden so I could have a cat or a dog. But I wouldn't live in London, even if I was paid to.

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 28/11/2021 18:01

I absolutely despise it and everyone here

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 28/11/2021 18:00

I disliked it during the pandemic lockdowns. We’re in outer London and if you can never move from your immediate area it gets very dull here. No lovely walks and cycle rides from your front door, as we heard everyone bragging about.

However in normal times I quite like it (although didn’t choose to live here, long story) because it’s close enough for central London and for the countryside/ sea side at a push.

Strangebrew · 28/11/2021 17:59

Me! I absolutely loathe the commuter town I live in. This part of the south east is massively overdeveloped, way busier than it used to be but I think for me it goes deeper than the fact that for me this is just too busy an area. So many bad things have happened to me since I moved here, it's forever linked in my mind with those situations.

I am stuck here at the moment because of family commitments but there is no way I am going to stay here beyond that.

Libertaire · 28/11/2021 17:59

I’m lucky enough to live in a lovely village. It’s the sort of place estate agents call ‘highly sought-after’.

Our local city, however, is a total dump. It has declined massively over the last 20 years. What was once enjoyable level multi-cultural diversity has become a third world shithole notorious for its sweatshop garment factories in which illegal immigrants are ruthlessly exploited.

blusteredbirds · 28/11/2021 17:56

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Stick a pin in a map and try somewhere else.

Oh my Lord that made my laugh!
flotsomandjetsome · 28/11/2021 17:56

Yes. We live in a nice house in a great area, but the area is such a tourist hotspot I find it makes it nigh on impossible to live a normal life once you get out the front door.

First world problems I know, but it's changed so much in the last 30 years I can't wait to move ☹️
