Just that really. I have a gift card, and googled if I could buy cigs with it and can't find an answer. Anyone?

2025 googled this, read this. Went down to Tesco all good. Yes can buy tobacco confirmed

LainyM · 31/12/2021 17:09

People so judgemental. You cannot buy baby formula with some gift cards. So let's start on that shall we....bad mother if you don't breast feed. Gift cards are not vouchers for food. Quite likely a gift.

Dad691971 · 23/08/2021 17:34

I've been having the exact same question yes you can buy cigarettes alcohol and fuel with tesco e gift cards tesco contacted me to answer my question and told me yes you can buy the aforementioned items.

Babyg1995 · 30/12/2020 14:52

FfsHmm only on mumsnet yes you can use a gift card on cigarettes I dont even smoke and think the replys are absolutely ridiculous on here.

Emeraldshamrock · 30/12/2020 14:51

If they are a gift voucher you can use them for anything in store afaik.

RizzleDrizzle · 30/12/2020 14:48

@EveryDayIsADuvetDay

Grin It’s very possiable that the only “money” op can get her hands on is a Tesco’s girlfriend card.

Is a girlfriend card
a) something one buys to give to a girlfriend
b) Tesco seeking to diversify income (is it legal??)

Haha I’m not sure - ask my phone it seems to think one exists
RizzleDrizzle · 30/12/2020 14:47
**@RizzleDrizzle* I’ve seen parents literally have nothing but some kind of voucher/gift card to their name.*

In that case don't you think cigarettes are the last thing they should be buying?
And that if your financial situation is so precarious then maybe burning £10 notes every day isn't the cleverest thing to be doing?
Maybe the reason they have only got a gift card is because they’ve spent their money on paying the morgage, electricity, gas water food and fags are literally the last thing they want/need
Personallly I wouldn’t buy fags ever but I don’t smoke or drink very much However both are addictive substances and sure they need help quitting

People who say things like this so very little understanding of people’s situations

I’m sure you spend money on thing other people would argue that there’s better things to spend your money on. There will be things that you do and spend money on that some one will say that’s not the cleverest thing to spend money on! Oh wow you can afford it but just think how better off you would be if you didn’t!

Comments like this are always made by people who stand from a position of being able to afford the things their telling other people they can do without! Some sort of moral high ground Sure there are cheaper ways of living and giving up smoking might help op but that’s not going to happen over night.

Jeez I’m autistic and I’m showing more empathy and understanding than some posters

Fuck me, some people jump to conclusions!

ViciousJackdaw · 30/12/2020 13:30

Some people....

I bet they'll go and report you to Marcus Rashford now!

Blackdog19 · 30/12/2020 13:27

And I should give up alcohol and chocolate but that’s up to me.

Bookworming · 30/12/2020 13:27

Whatever the reason the OP has a gift card, perhaps they should think about giving up cigarettes.

Maybe you should give up being so judgemental. I'm very anti smoking, but this is ridiculous!

Wow some people on this thread are unbelievable. How have they got using the school meal vouchers on cigs from this post? Judgy much?

gamerchick · 30/12/2020 13:19

@Diverseduvet

Wow ZeroFuchs, how do you know that? That's a massive leap!
Depressingly common though. They've not notices in Iceland that the school vouchers can't be used to buy alcohol.

People have been using milk tokens to buy cigs and alcohol for years.

Bookworming · 30/12/2020 13:18

However I do agree it was an amazing leap to catogrogically state that op wants to spend her FSM card on fags (absolutely not saying that doesn’t happen just saying we can’t say that’s what’s happening here)*

Agreed

RizzleDrizzle · 30/12/2020 13:16

They are regular vouchers aldi is the only one who has two types and the only one available through edenred is the non alcohol one so food only

Thanks I was trying to work it out through the Edenred site but wasn’t sure weather once you’d got your evoucher weather you just got a normal card.

If Tesco's can't organise a similar system to Aldi they should be ashamed! Yes I know they should t have to but sadly they do have to. Take temptation away
Absolutely, no they shouldn’t have to and for the majority they don’t have too, but I do feel it’s a bit nieve to just give a general card and think people won’t try and bend what they can purchase on it.

iklboo · 30/12/2020 13:07

OP says 'I have a gift card'.

Posters make bigger leaps thank Skippy on steroids she's using free school meal vouchers to buy cigarettes and tear food out of the mouths of her children. Which she doesn't even say she has. Some people on here have better imaginations than J K Rowling.

TrialOfStyle · 30/12/2020 12:59

I’m pretty sure general gift cards can be used as a cash replacement for anything in store - inc. cigarettes.

They can definitely be used on alcohol as I have done so in the past.

Vitaminsss · 30/12/2020 12:57

Oops, looks like I wandered into a complicated thread 😂 I personally wasn’t referencing school meal vouchers, just a normal gift card given by Tesco customer service

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 30/12/2020 12:57

I've used Sainsbury's vouchers I got given at work on fags.

Vitaminsss · 30/12/2020 12:55

I want to know the answer to this too. I don’t want to buy cigarettes though, just Xalin eye ointment from the medicine counter? If I can use a gift card, great, otherwise I’ll just order from Amazon as cheaper

Theunamedcat · 30/12/2020 12:54

@RizzleDrizzle

It’s very possiable that the only “money” op can get her hands on is a Tesco’s girlfriend card.

Now if the free school meals is an ordinary Tesco’s gift card then that’s ridiculously stupid of the suppliers because yeah their are some parents that would prioritise and “baccy and drink” first. I know the majority wouldn’t I’m not bashing FSM receivers. And if you do fall in to that category op shame on you.

But it’s also wrong to assume that is what she’s asking. Because I’ve seen parents literally have nothing but some kind of voucher/gift card to their name.
