Do you think there’s more racism since the BLM movement?

I was discussing this with my husband this morning and I think misogyny is worse since ‘me too’ happened and I was wondering if you’re seeing the same.

There isn't more racism. It is that some white people think it gives them a green light to verbally express the racist views they had. People who now verbally express racist views always expressed their racism, but if you are white you would not see it as it would not be what you perceived as racism.

So more that people feel more open to sharing these views now.

Absolutely. You only need to look at the fact that 15k people have complained about Diversity’s dance to know it’s true. Any form of vaguely BLM-type post on Facebook and Twitter brings them crawling out from under their rocks. As for the comments in the Daily Mail column of shame, even the most innocuous post regarding black celebrities brings forth bile by the gallon...

I will say I have been saddened and sickened that people I thought were decent are actually nasty racists. I have less friends on SM and in real life now I know their views. It's not enough not being racist we need to be anti racist. I won't put up with it and I will and have removed people from my life for being racist.

captainjacksparrow · 13/09/2020 13:12

I think it’s opened a door for some people to share their racist views under the guise of discussing BLM when actually they have no intention of educating themselves and just want to talk shit and get away with it.

HarrietSchulenberg · 13/09/2020 13:09

I am not black but I've noticed some of my all white family have started spouting racist views that I never knew they held. It's been an eye opener and I think it's because BLM has opened the doors to debate.

Sexnotgender · 13/09/2020 13:05

Maybe it is just that it’s being discussed more so seems like it’s more prevalent?

Yes it’s very depressing.

It’s depressing.

I think that as the subject of black equity and equality is on the table that there is more opportunity for racist views to be expressed.

Same thing for metoo, though I’ve not quite as much evidence of that on say twitter.

If I remember correctly racist crimes have increased since the Brexit vote.
