Today me and a friend are going to a near by city for shopping and lunch.
She asks me to book somewhere for lunch last week.
I asked her what type of food she wanted and she said "pub grub"
So I found a place and booked it.
She asked to see the menu
It has bangers n mash/fish and chips/all day breakfast/burgers /mince n dumplings etc
Plus sandwiches /toasties/wraps and salads
Her response "hmm is that the whole menu"
I said yes ..
She said there's not much on ?
I said to her you said you wanted pub grub
She replied "there's no jacket potatoes "
I said "you said pub grub"
She said "yes nice pub grub"
So I said ..ok what meal do you fancy ?
She said "I don't really know,pub grub"
So I said ..ok well why don't you have a look because I've spent all week looking and you can't decide.
She replied
"No need to be arsey,I told you pub grub"
Aibu here to think she's a bit annoying ?

Tell her to sort it then. The place you found sounds exactly what I'd expect for "pub grub".

KatherineJaneway · 23/07/2020 10:58

Are jacket potatoes pub grub?

MiserySand · 23/07/2020 10:56

Before reading the OP I didn't actively loathe the term "pub grub", but hey, now I do!

honeylulu · 23/07/2020 10:52

You aren't arsey, she's fussy and bossy!
Cancel the booking and if you're still going tell her she can book somewhere she likes the sound of and you'll go with it and not moan like her

If I were you I'd go in my own to shop and enjoy my lunch.

notanothertakeaway · 23/07/2020 10:50

Honestly I've spent all week finding places and her moaning

I would have found one suitable place. If friend didn't like it, I'd have cancelled it and suggested friend look for something she preferred

Elphame · 23/07/2020 10:48

If you are not planning to eat there PLEASE cancel. so the pub can rebook the table.

With all the limitations on eating indoors no -shows are killing what's left of the hospitality trade

Boireannachlaidir · 23/07/2020 10:47

YANBU your friend sounds like a right pain in the arse!

Osquito · 23/07/2020 10:42

Can’t believe she’s expected you to search and book a restaurant, after months of lockdown, and it’s all so she can eat a jacket potato.

mummmy2017 · 23/07/2020 10:35

Well sounds like you tell her you will get the train and meet her there.
Don't you just love people who try to spend your money for you.

OhCaptain · 23/07/2020 10:34

Are you still bothering to go?! I wouldn’t.

IsMiseMorag · 23/07/2020 10:33

Anyway, everyone knows 'pub grub' is a packet of cheese and onion crisps opened down the back seam and presented flat on the bar. Which is pretty much a jacket potato.

INeedNewShoes · 23/07/2020 10:32

Blooming heck. This is extremely tedious and I'd not want to be using my time with this person.

Zaphodsotherhead · 23/07/2020 10:32

Are you sure she's a friend, and you haven't inadvertently taken up with a minor celebrity?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/07/2020 10:25

ROOVES , not grooves - autocorrect you !

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/07/2020 10:24

unless you are in a country I know nothing about, trains to have a roof and provide adequate shelter from the rain

This is true.

Even up here in the primitive North, our train carriages have both grooves and walls. It's great! [GRIN]

Michaelbaubles · 23/07/2020 10:22

She’s being fussy. I’ve found that some places aren’t even serving their full menu anyway for the time being so even if it has it on the website it might not be on offer there! Who wants to eat a jacket potato at the pub anyway? I like things I don’t have at home like proper fried chips and onion rings!

iklboo · 23/07/2020 10:18

Get her a Mr Potato Head and take yourself off for a lovely lunch somewhere.

ichifanny · 23/07/2020 10:16

Someone beat me to it but take her to Spud U like

HugeAckmansWife · 23/07/2020 10:16

blackandwhite I was in a city this weekend and we had dinner Fri, lunch Sat and Sun in pubs / cafes with no booking ahead. We'd booked saturday night but only because we wanted a particular place. Over the three days I'd say we were in 8 different places to eat or drink without needing to book, just gave our number at the entrance.

OP, tell her if she wants a £50 taxi that's fine but you'll meet her there - I think it sounds like this trip is doomed anyway!

Muppetry76 · 23/07/2020 10:15

Fuck her off op. Pub should be quiet, take a book and enjoy your chicken in a basket by yourself!

SantaClaritaDiet · 23/07/2020 10:12

rather than get the train we should get a taxi as it's raining
unless you are in a country I know nothing about, trains to have a roof and provide adequate shelter from the rain Grin

SantaClaritaDiet · 23/07/2020 10:11

Your friend is ridiculous. If you are fussy, you look yourself. Don't go into any more effort if you like the look of that pub.

3cats · 23/07/2020 10:10

Sack her off. I couldn’t be arsed with all this.

AliceinBunnyland · 23/07/2020 10:07

Does she mean a taxi to the train station? Do you live near one another?

I'd say I need to walk as I need some exercise so I'll meet you at the station. Is she looking for an excuse to cancel, maybe?

geereer · 23/07/2020 09:57

Now this morning ..rather than get the train we should get a taxi as it's raining
(The train station is 5 min walk and £8 return )
Or taxi £50
Anyone want to come shopping and lunch ? No jacket pots allowed Grin
