AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

Not creepy, kind of comforting but I can't explain it so here goes...

My grandmothers birthday was the day before mine and following her divorce (frowned upon in those days I guess) she always wore a ring of our birthstone on her engagement finger.

After she passed my dad and uncle were clearing her house and I went to help. They asked if there was anything I would like to remember her by. The ring sprang to mind but even though she wore it every day no one knew where it was.

As I passed a small bookcase of trinkets in the hallway I was drawn to a small box, on opening there it was, the ring!

She had been bed bound for months and had dementia; maybe one of her carers put it there for safekeeping but I like to think I was meant to find it. Now I wear it everyday.

In the mid-90s, my grandad collapsed and died in the bathroom one night. After his passing, my grandma didn’t like to be alone so I would stay there most Friday nights (I would have been about 8/9 at this point).

Every Saturday morning she would wake up really early, and go downstairs. Without fail, every time I heard her close the living room door downstairs, the exact same floorboards that joined the bathroom and the bedroom I stayed in would creak as though someone had walked from the bathroom and was standing outside the bedroom, and I felt an awful presence that made me feel sick with fear - I used to lay there just paralysed until I finally got the courage to run downstairs. I eventually came to expect it and to this day I believe it was my grandad. When he was alive, we didn’t have a close relationship. I always found him a bit odd and not at all like you expect grandfathers to be. It freaks me out to this day looking back 😱

My strangest experience has to be just after DD was born. I'd had an EMCS and she had to spend a few days in the SCBU. I think this happened the day she was discharged from special care so her first night with me. I was really boiling hot- it was July so perfectly normal to be hot- I'd asked OH to open all the windows before he went home. A midwife checked on us and shut the windows incase DD got cold. I went off to sleep but still felt so incredibly hot. I then felt like I was floating up away from the bed, then looking down at myself. I remember thinking I had to press the call button, it was right there on my pillow but I just couldn't make my arm move to touch it. I was trying to scream and shout but nothing came out. I was trying desperately to bring myself back down to my body or wake myself up. I still can't remember how I 'came to', whether I woke up or went in to a deeper sleep?!

I'm sure it was just pure exhaustion but at the time I felt like I was dying.

@Colouringaddict that just gave me the nicest shivers ❤️

I wish my cat would come back and visit me one last time. Sad

Hawkmoth · 01/05/2020 20:16

Thanks a fucking bunch for this thread...

The other night I woke up and there was someone stood at the end of the bed. I thought it was eldest DD so called her name, then shouted her. No response so I turned my bedside lamp on, nothing. Looked at my phone and it was 4:19am. In my middle of the night fear I convinced myself 4 19 was the 19th of April and so I had six days to live.

Obviously I didn't die but now after reading this thread I had a thought to check the fate of previous owners and quite perturbed to discover that one died suddenly at home on the 13th April some years ago. I wonder if he'll come back next year...

Lots of things have happened over the years.

My cat was killed by a car in 2015 Sad

She always loved taking little bits and pieces and hiding them away, cliips, coins, bits of paper etc.

We play a lot of scrabble and for years we only had 99 tiles instead of 100. We had 99 at the time of her death and never found it.

Last year, 4 years after she died, it was a Saturday morning and I went downstairs for a cup of tea. When I came up, there placed perfectly and squarely on the bottom of the bed was a scrabble tile, the letter S.

I was totally puzzled about how it could have got there.I put it in the bag with the others but couldn't get it out of my head where it had appeared from. The house has had a lot of changing and moving around, and, obviously, the bed is changed every week,

There is no one here to bring scrabble tile and put it on the bed - it hadn't been there when I went to make the tea and no one else in the house.

Later that day I was looking through some photos on the computer and I saw that it was four years exactly to the date since we adopted her from the cattery.

She had previously come back to visit me about three weeks after she passed, I had seen her, stroked her and played with her on the bed. This has happened with every animal I've owned - they come back and see me a few weeks after the pass.

I often look at the tile and wonder exactly where it was all that time.

I am convinced she 'returned' it to us. We marked the back so we know which tile it is and we have tripled its points!!

Got another few. Not very scary but just odd.

I never personally felt anything unusual in my mum's house growing up but my mum has told me this story. My brother (the most laidback human in the world) was heard shouting and swearing in the middle of the night, mum had got up for the toilet and heard him saying 'just fuck off and leave me alone' mum goes into him to see what's wrong and he says 'every fucking night I've had someone sitting at the bottom of by bed and it's starting to really piss me off now! His was about 17 at the time and really unusual for him to get so annoyed 😂

Another
Nan was at my aunties one evening when they heard scraping coming from upstairs. My cousin was a baby, asleep in her cot. My auntie was too scared to go and find out what the noise was having experienced weird thing previously in the house so she sent my nan up. When my nan entered my cousins room she had to push hard against the door as the chest of drawers was blocking half of it!

My dad was walking our dog down the canal one evening (it was dark) when he saw a man sanding in front of him on the path (about 10 meters away) my dad felt scared so let the dog of the lead. Then man suddenly vanished. Dad carried on his walk and decided he would get off the canal at the next exit. All of a sudden the dog stopped walking and was staring into the trees at the other side of the canal, sure enough there was the man my dad and seen minutes before standing amongst the trees! There wasn't a bridge around to cross the canal. My dad said he vomited and then ran the rest if the way home Shock

I wrote earlier in the thread about after my Dads funeral, a couple of strange things happened. I came across this photo when having a sort out, putting flowers where his ashes are. It looks like an orb possibly on there? I carried this around with me for a while after, those swirly Mark's weren't there before. Not sure how it happened, the back of the photo looks like it has been burnt maybe..have no idea!

Me and my brother were walking home from school and took a different route to usual through some back roads - we were walking around for what seemed like forever. We got home and it was 1520. We left school at the end of the school day at 1530. Still gives me chills and we can’t explain it.

Fischfing · 01/05/2020 18:23

I was on a canal boat in a lock, the water was going down. I was waving my hands around and my ring flew off my finger and sank into the water.

As few minutes later, as the water went out the lock, the brickwork was exposed- and there was my ring! Nestled in a crack in the wall.

Should have kept that ring as a lucky charm but I don’t know where it is now Blush

ghostsandstuff · 01/05/2020 17:55

I've had a few creepy things happen:

Saw orbs after a friend lost a baby.

Thought I saw my deceased father in my room. Saw a medium some years later and my Dad came through and said it was him without me prompting and mentioning the incident.

The most scary incident happened a few months ago. I woke up in the middle of the night and thought I could see a face near me (I live alone). I started screaming and thought I must have been half asleep.

MitziK · 01/05/2020 17:42

Nah. She's fine as she is.

AliceTeale · 01/05/2020 17:38

Ooh I’ve remembered another - can’t think whether it was on here though...

Someone was exploring some ruins and tried to go up some steps that weren’t there but would have been before it was ruins.

AliceTeale · 01/05/2020 17:36

@MitziK have you never tried to get a photo of ghost cat??

exiledfromcornwall · 01/05/2020 17:34

I've had a few in my time:

  1. Staying in an old coaching inn which was once frequented by Oliver Cromwell and his men. Was having a sleepless night and in the wee small hours I heard the sounds of a heavy door opening and closing followed by heavy sounding footsteps, sounded like it was above our floor. I thought no more of it and tried to get to sleep. A short time afterwards the same thing again: crash, bang, heavy door opening and closing, followed by heavy footsteps. "Funny", I thought, then tried again to get to sleep. A similar interval afterwards I heard the same thing a third time. Twas like a recording playing over and over. The footsteps sounded like the sort a man wearing big leather boots would make. The next day we were walking next to the building, and for some reason I glanced up at the floor our room was on, and I realised that there was no floor above ours! Some time after I had a look on the internet, and found out that other people had heard footsteps in the night in that inn.

  2. A PP mentioned Chillingham Castle. We went there on a day visit towards closing time, and because it was late we missed going into the torture chamber. On the way out my husband continued walking to the exit, but I decided to peer into the now closed up torture chamber. Between there and the car I was overcome with an intense feeling of nausea. I would have dismissed it, except that once in the car and pulling away the nausea gradually disappeared and I felt fine again.

  3. When I was a schoolgirl in my early teens I had a dream one night that one of the classes I was supposed to attend was moved to a different classroom and I was the only one who didn't know about it, so I was sitting in splendid isolation wondering what had happened to the others. The very next day this exact thing happened!

MitziK · 01/05/2020 16:52

Ghost Cat.

Ghost Cat jumps on the bed when both DTwatCats have an alibi/independent witness and all doors/windows are shut. Ghost Cat jumps up on the counters or onto the bedroom floor whilst the DTwatCats are in full sight and DP is here as well.

Ghost Cat first appeared about a year after I visited my mother's house to be told in a shocked voice that My Cat had gone to sleep in the front garden in the sunshine three weeks previously and never woken up again. The shocked voice was because I'd walked in, sat down and asked how My Cat had been, as I'd just had a lovely fuss from her as she was out the front in the sunshine under the Pyracantha, all warm and happy and covered in dust over her faded black fur so she glowed red.

Shortly after DP moved in, he asked 'What's that?' when the familiar thud of her hitting the bedroom floorboards came as both DTwatCats sat in front of us.

'Oh, that's Ghost Cat'. (Thinking to myself that he's going to think I'm nuts or taking the piss). Nope.

'Little black thing? She's cute. Especially the red glow'.

Yes that creepy lift one

Also the Roman army marching and a centurion hurting the poster with a sword?

AliceTeale · 01/05/2020 16:06

That’s reminded me of another story on here from a nurse who went down to the hospital basement in the lift with someone else and the doors opened onto a scene from a hundred years before.

BirdieFriendReturns · 01/05/2020 15:57

Military bases are often haunted. I’ve lived in an old military hospital and married quarters. If you are in the armed forces or a spouse, you can join an Facebook group called Haunted Married Quarters!

SneakersandSocks · 01/05/2020 15:32

My husband and I used to live down south, when we came to visit family up North, we’d sometimes stop at his Mums house in the countryside. The house isn’t particularly old but the village is .

There’s been a few times I’ve stopped there where I’ve felt uneasy at night. The spare bedroom we used to stop in looks out onto hills and fields and it’s pitch black at night. I woke up wide awake in the early hours one night with a horrible feeling of being watched..I actually hid my head under the covers like a child ( I was in my mid twenties at the time!) then I heard the floorboards creak right outside the door followed by pots crashing downstairs seconds later. I mentioned it the next morning to his family who said they didn’t get up in the night or go downstairs so not sure what that was all about!

There’s been a few other little things like thinking I saw something at the corner of my eye or smelling a dog when they don't have one...

Ohwhatbliss · 01/05/2020 15:18

@scaryreading Yes, the daughter who still lives there lives with her husband and he is a lovely man who has never felt threatened in the house.

NotJustStories · 01/05/2020 14:50

I've got a load.

Name changed as my family would be able to identify me from them.

1..I was about 12/13 years old and was lay on my bed reading a book. I was lay on my front with my head facing towards the door. As I'm reading my head is sort on pointed down wards. I notice something on the floor and so look over the top of my book to see 2 white feet stood about 3 ft from my bed. They're all white. Mary Jane styled buckled shoes, white frilled socks. I'm staring at them for a moment, confused and as I start to trail my eyes upwards, from the shoes to the calves.. I get to the knees and poof. Gone. Just gone.

I wasn't scared at all. It was just so strange.

2-Around 13 years old. Doing an ouiji board with friends at my grans house. We were summoning Elvis and generally just being silly until my friend asked to speak to her Aunt, that had died months before. At that exact moment the lights flickered. The TV set came on and the VCR ejected a video.

We all ran outside screaming. Could have been a power surge but never experienced anything similar since.

3- Had a strange dream. It was black and I heard ringing. I saw an old fashioned dial phone in front of me in the blackness.
Ansered it and it was my Gran, who is deceased. She says 'XYZ is 3 weeks pregnant'

I wake up.

I tell XYZ. 3 weeks later she finds out at a scan she is 6 weeks pregnant.

4-

This, IMO, is the creepiest and it gives me the Willie's even thinking of it.

Me and my family had been out for the day. I was maybe 14. We pull up to the house in our car. My parents and my 3 siblings.
We don't have a drive so are parallel to the house. I look up at the window and see a face pressed to the window. We had net curtains, lacy ones, but there was no facial features at all. They were wearing yellow.

I said. "mum there's someone in the house"

Everyone in the car looks up at the window and we ALL see the same thing.

My dad jumps out of the car, runs to the door to open it.
He kept a bat by the front door. He runs upstairs. We had all jumped out of the car, ran into the garden. My mum was shouting for us to get out of the way, incase someone ran out the front. My dad is running round the house like a lunatic looking for the intruder.

No one is there. The face is gone. Nothing is taken. Broken. No signs of a break in.

Nothing.

I can still see the 'face' :(

I have. A few more. Will post again later
