AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

@Ginburee yes I experience this all the time. I'm like the kiss of death for electrical equipment of any kind. Lightbulbs always seem to pop when I am angry/distressed, and every car I've ever had has gone wrong electrically!

Pollymalex104 · 09/05/2020 10:16

@counarthursgroupie Sorry, I also meant to say your story reminds me of a scene from The Sixth Sense. Creepy.

Pollymalex104 · 09/05/2020 10:14

I was washing up late at night and idly staring out of the window. Suddenly a man ran past the window. I can still see it as clearly as anything - his posture was that of someone running very fast, but what stood out was the loosely gathered white shirt. I called to my husband that someone was in the garden but when we went out it was empty. Nothing particularly unusual except:
Where he was running was an empty flower bed - no footprints.
At the speed and direction he was going, the only way out was through our full height garden gate which was propped shut and locked. It was half off its hinges, so would had to have been half lifted to open it and was padlocked. Our garden was fully enclosed on all sides, either by fence or wall.
I have no explanation. At the time I thought he was real, until we looked outside. He literally vanished. I often wonder what the story was behind him. He looked as if he was fleeing from something and was as clear as day for those split seconds.

Long ago probably in the seventies, I was going home in the dark passing a block of flats. On the grass in front there was a shed type of building, just a large wooden cube really, with a door that was padlocked. A child's voice came from the shed, I couldn't tell whether male or female, calling for help. When I stopped they said they'd been locked in by their friends who had gone home. I didn't know what to do (no mobile phones back then), so I ran and knocked on the nearest door in the block, I thought they might be able to call the caretaker or something. The man who answered looked most suspicious but came out to the shed and - nothing. I called, no reply, no giggling or sound of kids running away, nothing. The man looked at me like I was mad, I apologised, and stood there for a little longer listening, but nothing. After all these years I still wonder what the hell was going on!

Not me but my Mother does @Ginburee. She drains batteries on tech and stops watches. I do think a lot of supernatural phenomena relate directly to electrical activity in the brain. As a child, I remember seeing blue flashes if my Mum was angry or sad.

Does anyone else have issues with technology not working?
In our house we have tablets etc that I deliberately don't ever touch because everything goes slow, stops working or does weird things when I touch them.
This includes watches and every phone I have ever owned.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 07/05/2020 19:58

cinnamoninmytea was it always the same tree? It might be a wishing tree. It's a tree where people make wishes with related offerings to spirits. They're often by water.

Casino218 · 07/05/2020 05:01

@Quim that's a sad tale about your mum

AprilJune · 06/05/2020 21:49

I remember that one @Rebellenny. I think it was GreyLady.

Oakmaiden · 06/05/2020 14:13

@ohcorona

That used to happen to me a lot too, when I was at boarding school trying to phone my Mum.

I have a lot but I will sort of go in a timeline.

  1. I also met my ghost cat when I was about 8!
  2. My kindle froze and no matter what I did I couldn't get it to work. I went to bed (aged about 37) and a wind wooshed around my bedroom, the curtains moved and then it was almost like infa red waves of love washed through me and it felt like the whole of the bible was downloaded into my heart. My kindle started working the next day day and the first thing I read was Bill Johnson from Bethel Church recounting the same experience.
3, Another middle of the night one, I felt like my ears were hearing static and they hurt, like they were being tuned into a different frequency. I heard the song 'He's Got The Whole World in His Hands'. It sounded like it was being sung by a large gospel choir and the range was incredible. The second song I didn't know but it was being led by a female gospel singer with an incredible voice.
  1. I have had the unfortunate experience of hearing 4 demons speak. They all had that stereotypical demon voice. The last one was a week or so ago. In the middle of the night my DH (still asleep) called me a 'stupid bitch' in a demon voice. I got my church leaders to pray for me and in an amazing coincidence by terrible bad back got instantly better. (And my name isn't bitch by the way, its child of God!)
  2. I was in a pub, and this girl from my exercise class was chatting to me. She got a really funny look on her face and I said to her ' What are you thinking about' and the whole pub sort of went melty and a demon voice came out and said 'Jealous' and then everything went back to normal and I realised that to everyone around nothing had happened. And I left quick after that.
  3. I had a perforated ear drum which is really painful. I was at a prayer event one evening and my friend was praying for me. She said 'I really think you need to get your son to pray for you'. The next moring my son was waiting on this little step in his room, and he held out his teddy and said 'Mummy - teddy's ear' and I remembered and got him to pray for my ear. It was healed instantly.
  4. I was traveling and met this guy who fancied himself as a psychic and held my hand to do a reading before I could say yes or no. Only I didn't want it to happen because I was a Christian. Anyway I have a nice smiling face and I kept smiling while praying inside and he said 'Why are you blocking in' and I pretended I didn't know what he was talking about.
  5. I have too many answers to prayer - I would be here all day. They can not really be all put down to coincidence - well I don't put them down to coincidence!

Thank you Zap.
It was a beautiful sunny day in the summer.

I can't explain it as there can be no logical explanation as there was no space for the horse to be ridden in the steep, overgrown valley.

Very weird.....

Zaphodsotherhead · 05/05/2020 19:36

@Aurea

Sound travels weirdly in the North York Moors. The dales funnel sound, so something that sounds as though it's really close and right beside you can be a fair distance away.

I've actually been a ghost up on the Moors. Quite a foggy day and I'd taken my horse up for a canter along one of the sandy tracks that are old coaching roads that run along the high moors. I was cantering along, approaching one of the standing stones and I heard someone say 'what the hell is THAT? It sounds like a horse!' and a lot of people (all invisible to me in the fog, as I was to them) muttering about ghostly riders.

Just the sound carrying and fog so they couldn't see me!

Just finished this thread over a couple of days. I don’t have any woo stories but I love horror movies and spooky stories!

MissyEllyPants · 05/05/2020 13:38

I have had a couple of weird experiences at the house where I work as a nanny. When I started there I didn't feel like it was creepy, but it didn't have a particularly comfortable feel. The eldest child said she didn't like the house, but I put it down to having moved fairly recently.
About a month or so after starting work there, I was returning to the house with the youngest child. It was early evening in winter, so we returned to a dark house. He needed the loo, so we climbed the stairs to go to the bathroom. As we walked past the youngest's room, he stared intently, pointed into it, and said, "Man in there" . The room was in darkness and I couldn't see anything, but he continued to point and look, as if he were looking directly at something. My mind was racing, thinking there might be a burglar or something, but I got brave and switched the light on. Nothing.
I was feeling totally freaked out, but continued as normal, taking the child to the bathroom. He then pointed at the bathroom wall and said 'Man everywhere!'. I was too scared to ask any details about said man and just got the hell out of the bathroom ASAP!
I told my boss who didn't really alieviate any fears, telling me that the eldest didn't want to sleep in the loft room as "the books kept moving about by themselves".
Nothing happened for a long time after that, thankfully. One night though, I was waiting for a babysitter to take over from me as the parents were going out. I was downstairs with the children when I heard the noise of the vacuum cleaner upstairs. Knowing we were the only ones in the house, I went upstairs brandishing an iron for protection, and switched it off. Nobody there. I tried to think of ways that it could have turned itself on, like possibly the handle fallling on to the on button, but the way it was positioned made me think this was highly unlikely.

My dad occasionally has dreams that come true. Two that spring to mind happened when I was about 8-10 years old.

In the first dream, he dreamt we were going on holiday on a ferry, one of those where you drive the car on to the back of the ship through big doors. We were on the ship and it started to sink and tipped onto its side. Luckily we were able to get off the ship. A few days later we heard the news of the Zeebrugge ferry disaster on the news.

In the other dream, my dad dreamt he was sitting in a chair by the window of our living room. There was a big explosion in the sky outside and a plane fell to the ground, landing on houses. A few days later the Lockerbie bombing happened.

CinnamoninmyTea · 05/05/2020 09:56

There are some woods near where I live and I sometimes go for a walk there (with a friend) even though they creep me out a little bit. These woods are in the middle of nowhere, not near any houses, and the terrain is very uneven with lots of fallen branches etc - not a place you would take a baby in a pushchair or a child on a bike.

On three separate occasions, I’ve seen a small tricycle, a blue balloon, and most recently a baby’s teething ring/rattle hung on a tree. I can’t explain why these things would be there and it just seems so strange! My friend laughed it off but I can’t help but feel really weird about it.

ohcorona · 05/05/2020 08:33

When we used to use landlines more I would pick up the phone to phone my Mum or one of my oldest friends and they were there, I'd picked it up and they had been phoning me, used to happen a lot.

ohcorona · 05/05/2020 08:32

"House" not "hose"

ohcorona · 05/05/2020 08:27

I've always had quite weird, unexplained things happening for years.

For a while I got quite into going to psychics and had a little psychic bible about harnessing that energy. The more I was delving into it the more vivid and scary my dreams were getting.
I had one recurring dream at my old flat in Edinburgh where I was in my kitchen and I could see at the bottom of a garden a really old woman staring at me and I felt so scared, I would wake up screaming. I stopped delving into it all and the dreams stopped.

I was really close to my Gran and she died suddenly of a heart attack and for a long time she would visit in my dreams and we would chat away and it was a really nice dream. My hose will often smell of my Grans house which feels comforting.

QuimJongUn · 05/05/2020 07:45

@Tramolamodol that's lovely. Our cat died two years ago and I'd give anything to know she was still with us.

QuimJongUn · 05/05/2020 07:28

I have a few.

When I was about 18, me and my mum were alone in the house watching TV. At the time we were living in the upstairs flat of a large two storey house - the front door was shared, then there was a small hallway with a locked door to downstairs and another to the stairs up to our flat. There was also a bolted door at the top of the stairs.

It was about 11pm and we were just about to go to bed when we heard someone stamping up the stairs. Immediately we were on edge because whoever it was had to have got through the locked and bolted main front door and the locked door to our stairs, and only me and DM had keys. The stamping seemed to go on for ages, far longer than it took to get upstairs, then stopped. A few seconds later someone started banging on the door at the top of the stairs. We could see the door from where we were and it was moving on its frame, it was being banged so violently. This went on for over a minute absolutely ceaselessly then suddenly stopped. There was no sound of anyone going back downstairs so we assumed whoever was there must still be but when we called out there was no answer.

After about half an hour we decided to open the door. Armed with saucepans (I kid you not) we did - and of course there was nobody there. What's more, the door at the bottom of the stairs was locked from the inside, as was the main front door.

The house was detached, so not noise from next door, and the downstairs flat was vacant at the time.

Another one...

Years later me and my mum had very sadly gone NC (long story). I missed and loved her so much but it was unavoidable for many reasons.

One evening I was out having dinner with DH. It was early, about 7.30pm, and we were looking forward to a lovely Saturday evening - we'd only been married for two weeks so were very much in the honeymoon stage. Suddenly I was overcome by this sudden need to see my mother. I can't describe it - it was all encompassing and I suddenly felt so overcome with this awful sad, lost sensation. One minute I was laughing and chatting with DH, the next I was in floods of tears and had to get home. My mum was living 350 miles away at the time so going to see her wasn't an option but honestly if it had been, I would have despite not having spoken for almost a decade.

I couldn't stop crying that night, was sick, didn't sleep at all. I tried calling the last number I had for her with no luck. I phoned her sisters but they hadn't heard from her in years either.

The feeling didn't leave me for the rest of the weekend and I was planning to go to my mum's city on the Monday morning to see if she was at her last address, and if not search from there. My phone rang at 5 o'clock that morning. It was my auntie. She'd called the local hospitals where mum was living. One of them had told her that mum was admitted after a stroke the previous week and had been doing well, but had had another stroke and gone into a coma from which she didn't wake and she'd died the previous evening. She'd slipped into the coma at 7.30pm on the Saturday - the very same time I was overcome by that all consuming need to see her.

We used to be so incredibly close when I was younger. All of this happened nearly 20 years ago and it may be rubbish but I will never get over the idea that she somehow let me know she was so ill, that she needed me and I couldn't get to her. She must have been so frightened.

I'm the least woo person you'll ever meet but I'll never be able to explain what happened that weekend rationally.

No. The funeral was a week later and the country had a compulsory two week quarantine on arrival - thanks Covid.
