AIBU to ask about the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you that you cannot explain?

I realise threads like these have probably been done to death but I am super bored and struggling to find anything to watch/read.

@littlepeas ‘who put Bella in the wychelm’?? 😯

bingowingsmcgee · 01/05/2020 00:08

Went for a nap when dd3 was a couple of months old. Left her downstairs with dh. Halfway through the nap, appropo of nothing, I sat bolt upright in bed and felt the urge to run, not walk, downstairs. Get downstairs and there's dh asleep on the sofa, originally with the baby lying on his belly, except she'd slipped down and was trapped facedown behind the sofa cushion. If I hadn't have seen in time... It doesn't bear thinking about.

The Savernake Forest story is so creepy. There’s been lots of weird stuff happen there over the years. I think Michael Ryan the Hungerford gunman killed some people there too.

BengalGal · 30/04/2020 23:40

I’ve had lots of synchronicity stuff but nothing too scary. Think of an old friend and they call. Coincidences that are stranger than fiction. But once I dreamt of a car crashing and bursting into flames. A deer jumped out of it. A doe. I woke up. The next morning I learned my friend had been in a car crash and nearly died. She could never speak or walk again and had to live in a special home. We were 14. She looked like a doe and I always thought of her as a doe. The dream happened about the same time as the accident.

When I was 19 being a mother’s helper I was in a bank to open an account. I had my little charge with me. I was waiting to speak with someone and picked up a pamphlet on a table the chair I was in. It said something like every 15 minutes someone’s house in London is broken into. Suddenly I felt I had to get home (employers home where I also lived) and rushed out without talking to anyone, running pushing the stroller all the way. When I walked in I saw the window was broken and the house had been burglarized.

My mother had more dramatic experiences. She and my sister-in-law were getting paintings made by my father ready to be photographed professionally for the first time. My father had died 10 years before. While they were in his bedroom his upright bicycle pump was sitting on his desk. It started rocking itself back and forth for a whole minute or two. They decided it was Dad telling them he was pumped to get the paintings photographed.

A few years ago my stepfather died. My mother was given a trunk he had stored at a friend’s. Inside were copies of every letter he ever wrote in his whole life. From these my mom learned that her spouse had many affairs and was probably a sex addict and also bisexual. Later she decided to share this news with the daughter of her deceased husband and afterwards strange things started happening. That night the vent in the floor of the downstairs loo somehow came out of the floor with a big crash. The vent was directly above where she had put the trunk of letters in the basement. Then my mom started seeing, at night while in bed, a weird figure with green dots and a red light tracing its outline. Over the weeks it got closer and closer and was menacing. Other strange things were moved in her bedroom. Finally a friend told her she was a ghost buster and she cane over to help make him, Steve, leave. When she arrived she headed to the basement, right where the trunk was, and said she sensed he was in this room. She then had my mom try to forgive hiM and remember how she loved him. The lady told Steve all was well now and he needed to head for the light. Nothing spooky happened after that.

Do you mean Wychbury hill? I used to love it up there!

LouiseCollina · 30/04/2020 23:29

Jesus Christ @ElizabethMountbatten next to the woods story that is the most horrifying thing I’ve read on this thread! Hollywood movie level terrifying! - there’s no emoji on here to cover it!!

When I was a student, a friend and I visited her school friend in a town about 30 minutes from the town we were studying. The friend's house (I had never met her before) was a bit weird and creepy. Her and her flat mates rented it from a Canon in the church. There were lots of crucifices in the house. There was also a massive dining room with a huge table they had to entertain dignitaries from the church at twice a week. There was also a mini chapel in one room of the house with a paving stone standing up that looked like a grave stone. It was all very strange.

FinnJ77 · 30/04/2020 23:22

I didn’t put this in the story because I can rationale this more, but around the same time something else happened.

When we moved in, the house was full of furniture from the previous owner who had died. One item was a huge ornate mirror. It was in my parents room on a heavy, old, dresser. I think that was left there too.

Anyway, this mirror had sat on the dresser for years without incident. One evening we are downstairs watching tv and there is a huge smash. We go up, and the mirror is on the floor broken. I remember us being puzzled because the dresser was large enough that if it somehow toppled over if should have just fallen on the surface.

Then, among all the pieces of glass there was a black and white photo of an old lady.

Mum said it was probably attached to the back or something, and maybe it was. It was just so strange for that mirror to suddenly just hurl itself to the floor after all that time.

I don’t know ? Can tell you that after those two episodes, I wanted to move house!!

FinnJ77 · 30/04/2020 23:13

That forest story is creepy AF!! but it also made me think of an incident years ago that I can’t explain.

It too is a bit long, so apologies.

Growing up we lived in a house with a really long garden, about 250ft. It was sort of split in two with some trees/bushes and a little archway half way down. My brother and myself used to make dens in one area there and play around in the trees.

I was about 14 when this happened, and my brother 9.

It was Halloween week if I remember correctly and it was about 6pm so dark outside. Mum was cooking dinner and we were all in the kitchen. My brother suddenly says...and this still gives me the shivers....”mum, theres eyes in the garden”.

Mum and I do the raised eyebrow thing and ignore him. He says it again. We look out the window into the garden just to stop him going on about it really. Not expecting to see anything.

Mum peers our first and says “there’s eyes”

Looking out, half way down, in the area of trees etc, was a pair of green glowing eyes. They were the size of golf balls, further apart than human eyes and about 7 foot high up. Too big for a cat/dog etc. And even if it was a cat/dog sitting up the tree, the eyes were too large and too far apart.

We stared, the eyes stared. And apart from the kitchen light being on, there was nothing shining down there to get the “cats eyes” effect.

Mum is saying it’s an animal or something and to not worry, but then it gets weirder.

She kind of distracts me and my brother away from the window, but he goes back to look and then says “now there’s a light”

At this point I’m feeling pretty terrified. Once again mum and I join my brother at the window and there, sure enough is a light where the glowing eyes are. It’s like a lantern type glow. Glowing eyes aside, mum says it’s the reflection of our kitchen light.

To prove it, she gets my brother to turn the light out and sure enough, the light in the trees goes out too. We repeat the test a few times and it always goes out. Until it doesn’t. We catch it out. Our kitchen light is off, and the lantern glow in the trees is on, with the eyes still there too.

I literally sh*t myself. Mum decides to let the dog out into the garden because he was an ex police drugs dog and will scare anything away. He runs half way, barks, whimpers and comes running back.

Mum then bolted the back door and shut the kitchen curtains. She tried to tell us it was just kids mucking but I can’t think of anyone who would have thought to do that, been able to do the glowing eyes, etc. I know it wasn’t people playing a prank...if it was, it was Hollywood filmset skills level. Those eyes weren’t like torch light or anything, they were proper, pupil like eyes. I know they were eyes, but not human, or any animal I’ve seen. The lantern light was like the ones people would hold up to see where they were going years ago. It was something I, to this day, can’t explain.

I never really mention it because it’s one of those things people won’t believe.

It’s always made me worry that maybe we saw something that would suggest the existence of evil. And that is scary!

Ive told this one before. I can't remember if it was a very vivid dream or real.
Anyway as a child I often used to wake up in the night and get in my parents bed. This night was no differen t. In the morning my mum got up first and it was just and my dad, and I turned around and saw a n other one of my dad (his doppelganger) I remember being more fascinated rather than scared and I said "Daddy Theres another man here with the same face as ypu.
My dad just calmly replied. Oh take no notice of him he'll go away in a minute.
I even remember my mum saying "Do you remember when you saw that man who was the same as your dad. However my mum wouldn't have wanted to remind me of it, plus she was very none woo. My parents have sadly passed now, so. There's no way I could ever find out if it was
a dream that st uck with me.
A false memory
It reAlly happened.

Bananalanacake · 30/04/2020 23:03

Nothing spooky has ever happened to me in my 42 years alive, but you lot can't all be making this up so I do believe there is something out there, I also believe the theory that ghosts only reveal themselves to those who aren't scared of them.

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/04/2020 22:56

I recently gave myself shivers when I was flicking though an old Milly Molly Mandy paper back and was met with countless drawings of 'the eyes' staring back at me again from the pages!!

I loved Milly-Molly-Mandy as a child but I know exactly what you mean about the eyes.

carlywurly · 30/04/2020 22:47

@Colouringaddict my grandad told my dad his mum was coming to collect him the night he died. He'd never said anything like that before. It's quite a comforting thought really. Smile

Maria53 · 30/04/2020 22:47

One thing I forgot about that creeped me out. Last year I was in a supermarket waiting at the checkout. I looked at the man at the next till and thought to myself 'that man will die soon'.

15 mins later I had paid for my shopping and reached the top of the escalator. That man was slumped on the floor and his wife was screaming. Someone called an ambulance and others helped, so I left. Felt shaken up for a day or 2.

Years ago I joined the prison service and we had to do some training in a place near Haverhill. I'm sure it used to be a prison but it had been used as a training centre for a while. We were staying there for 2 nights and had our own rooms. On the first night, quite late at night, I was talking to my boyfriend on the phone when the room went really cold and I noticed a shadow at my door- it was blocking out the light from the corridor. At first I thought maybe it was one of my colleagues but there was no sound. Then the door handle started to turn and someone was trying to get in my room. I lay there absolutely frozen staring at the door until it stopped and the shadow disappeared. My room was at the very end of the corridor.
The next morning at breakfast I was visibly shaken up and my friends asked what was wrong. I told them and they said they hadn't heard anything. They also said their rooms were really warm. The woman serving our breakfast overhead us and told her colleague who told me that a girl had been raped right outside my room and that there used to be stairs there. After that we dragged the mattress off my bed and I slept on the floor in my friend's room. I also refused to ever stay there again. It gives me the creeps writing about it now.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/04/2020 22:22

@WillowKnicks, there was a big cat signings thread recently. It was fascinating.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/04/2020 22:21

I'm lying in the bath catching up on these, and the door started moving (no windows open) I nearly shit myself... Then I heard a sigh and realised the dog is lying on the floor and was having a stretch 🙄 I just couldn't see him.

when I was in my late teens I met a woman and after a few dates went back to her house for a drink and later made love, After we had made love I got out of bed and went downstairs to go outside for a cigarette while she jumped in the shower, As I was putting my shoes on there was something at the side of me deep breathing and making sexual noses in my ear as if it was copying what had just taken place in the bedroom earlier it was like a person stood right at the side of me, but no one was their just me. I put my shoes on quickly and grabbed my cigs and lighter and went outside , whilst smoking I was trying to process what just happened and thought the only explanation is there is a poltergeist in the house or my girlfriend was playing a trick on me.
Anyway after a couple of cigs I went back inside the house and mentioned what had happened as she sat on the bed putting a towel on her head and she said I was making it up and using it as a excuse so I didn't have to stay the night with her.
I decided to not spend the night there after what happened and would arrange to see her again in a couple of days time.
I met her again in her local for a drink and then went back to the house later that night, we decided to curl up on the sofa and watch a film, half way through the film we paused it so I could go for a cig outside, I picked my cigs and lighter up but noticed my keys weren't there so asked if she had moved them, She said they would be in the dolls house which was in the room where we had been watching the film, I opened the dolls house and saw my keys inside and also her set of keys, so took mine out and put them in my pocket and asked why she had put them in there. she did not answer my question only with a do you want a beer after you have had a smoke I said okay and went outside thinking that was strange, why would you put keys in a dolls house but decided to let it go.
whilst watching the film I could here noises upstairs and asked what that noise was and she said just to ignore it, but I couldn't and said I was going to toilet but really I wanted to know what was making that noise, ( it sounded like someone was running their fingers very fast over a central heating radiator) the noise dring, dring, dring I opened the door where the noise was coming from and the noise suddenly stopped, nobody was in that room.
I closed the door started to go back down the stairs and the noise started again dring, dring, dring. I opened the door again and it went silent again, I stood in the room and said show yourself don't be a pussy. Then I heard a really deep nasty laugh in my ear which scared me as their was nothing there and it was right next to me, I could even hear it breathing at the side of me but still could not see anything.
I went downstairs scared and told her what had just happened and she said not to worry its a friendly ghost and it wouldn't harm you.
That was not a friendly ghost that was a poltergeist and I know that for a fact because I went back upstairs to collect a few of my things before I left that house forever, and whilst I was gathering my things together I said you don't scare me you pussy show yourself (in reality I was shitting myself) it blew wind in my face, it was like sticking your head out of a car doing 70mph . that was it I ran downstairs said I would call her and darted to my car, got in it and drove home, my hands were shaking and I was petrified at what had just happened.
I never contacted her or went back to the house again.

Fowles94 · 30/04/2020 22:17

Whenever I've met 'sensitive' people they say 'you've seen and heard things haven't you?'. Truth is I have seen loads and heard a few things. I must give something out though.
Awful things happened in houses after I've directly moved out of them too, obviously coincidence but freaks me out.

AllHailTheKale · 30/04/2020 22:04

SO much weird paranormal/synchronicity type stuff happens to me, all the time. For example:

  1. Thinking of someone I haven't seen in 20 years, and then bumping into them in the supermarket an hour later. This happens a lot to me, I have also thought about exes and ex bosses and then bumped into them the same day too

  2. Thinking of a song and it immediately starts playing on the radio, even old songs

  3. Smelling the perfume of deceased loved ones very strongly from time to time, in my own house

  4. Dreaming about things, and then they actually happen. Eg. dreaming about a friend getting pregnant, then the next day she announces she's pregnant

Freaks me out sometimes!

Pawsandnoses · 30/04/2020 22:01

My Grandfather died unexpectedly in his sleep when I was 15 in the early hours of a Monday morning. We always went for Sunday lunch, and I almost hadn't gone as I had a lot of homework, but changed my mind at the last minute. I woke up at some point during the night, in tears and thinking about my Grandad. I eventually went back to sleep, but at about 6.30am the phone rang. My Aunt had been staying with my Grandad and she took him a cup of tea as normal, but he had passed, clearly some time prior. He apparently looked very peaceful so obviously hadn't suffered. I knew what had happened as soon as I heard the phone ring. I'm sure he came to say goodbye.
