I take DS to swimming. I got the times wrong turned up for the wrong lesson. I decide to go back to the changing room to wait. I find it hard to breath in the pool area, 30 minutes is ok, an hour and I can feel my asthma begin to act up.

There is a dad there getting his daughters dressed (fine) he was in the pool and he's down to his underwear.

Another dad arrives with his son, him and my DS are in the same lesson.

Anyways dad of daughters decides to get dressed... he drops his pants and is stark naked in front of his daughters. He is also by the door so if another parent was coming in their child would have walked into his penis! And it wasn't less than a minute because he was drying himself as well 🤢...

There are cubicles. He could have used a towel as well.

Why would and adult choose to get naked in a dressing room at a swim lesson for children with strangers around.

AIBU to find it bizarre?

His bum was also hairy and unattractive 🤢.

Ahhhh ! @TomPinch! I wondered about that but then she said there was no public pools at all where she grew up only private. I did think there would be public pools in the warmer parts of NZ, just like in Australia.

And now Trebla has come through and said ‘not typical’.

Rombocious · 28/11/2019 06:58

@TomPinch

"And in NZ it's appropriate for a mother to take her son into the men's toilets, ditto fathers & daughters, leastways it was when my children were younger."

Lived in NZ all my life. Been to tons of public swimming pools. Never ever seen an adult women in the men''s changing room and if a man went into yhe women's with his daughter there'd probably be a riot.

NewPapaGuinea · 28/11/2019 06:44

This story is BS. Even if it’s true, it’s BS.

Elodie2019 · 28/11/2019 06:41

You sit around for half an hour in the male changing rooms and are put out because a man gets naked in there? Are you joking?

As for I've also never been in a changing room with women walking around naked... they usually have a towel on.
Oh haha... really?! Must be just our local swimming pool then. Plenty of naked women showering/dressing out in the open there.
(Never seen a random bloke sat waiting in the ladies strangely enough)

homeishere · 28/11/2019 06:38

Shit like this actually gets me angry.

Just because a man gets naked when getting changed, in a men’s changing room, does not mean he is child sex offender.

The naked body is natural. Makes no difference the age or gender of the children present.

My husband walks naked around our 2 & 4 year old girls. And they him, obviously.

my2bundles · 28/11/2019 06:32

You have however given my Australian friend a good laugh at your obvious ignorance.

my2bundles · 28/11/2019 06:26

Spoke to a friend in Australia. She confirmed that woman do not, I repeat DONOT use male changing rooms when supervising son's. Also no self respecting swim school teachers 2 year olds without parental supervision IN the pool. OP stop bleating cultural differences.

rowrowrowyaboat · 28/11/2019 06:16

rowrowrowyaboat · 28/11/2019 06:14

The entitlement and selfishness from you is astounding. You can not use the mens toilets/changing rooms, your needs do not trump mens.
Im starting to think that maybe your on the spectrum, a complete idiot or incredibly narcissistic because this behaviour/thought process is so tunnel vision its unreal.....or maybe its just not real 🤷‍♀️

Also, it doesn't matter you couldn't see his face, when u saw his arse that was your queue to leave......not watch.

notthemum · 28/11/2019 05:24

Christ on a bike. Just read the child is 2.
I don't know of any company that would let a two year old swim without a parent,
If you can't bear to wait in the allocated changing area (although personally I would not let a two year old swim without me being there) sit in your car
Oh my, it's raining, it's the UK. It does that. Get a fucking brolly for God's sake.
How wonderful to have lived in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the tropics, how odd that these places allow females to just sit in the male changing rooms.
How very odd that people don't get changed under their towels here.
Why the fuck wouldn't you have asked your OH about the changing rooms before going in there and ogling some poor blokes arse ?
I change my previous opinion. YANBU, just really fucking mental

TomPinch · 28/11/2019 04:48

There's also a lack of 'family' changing areas in NZ (or at least there was when my kids were younger).

Trebla · 28/11/2019 04:47

it's a very, very long way from anywhere

This however is true Grin

Trebla · 28/11/2019 04:45

Erm I'm in NZ and no the OP is not typical.

TomPinch · 28/11/2019 04:43

@GlamGiraffe

But did you model them in the men's?

TomPinch · 28/11/2019 04:41

It's a very, very long way from anywhere.

GlamGiraffe · 28/11/2019 04:41

@JoannaObrien
Unfortunately my husband is afflicted with the same lack of fashion expertise and when (just to prove the point), I allowed him to select clothes for me to try on, even he realised the full on prostitute/Christmas cracker combination looks weren't really cutting it. I find that as with anything showing him pre selected options to choose is a very good idea, hes then always impressed he makes such good choices. It makes him feel good😉.

mathanxiety · 28/11/2019 04:40

It's also clearly a place completely cut off from the rest of the world, where the quaint changing room and public toilet etiquette of the rest of the world is unknown and unsuspected.

TomPinch · 28/11/2019 04:30

Learn something new everyday. I thought this was the equivalent to taking a male child to use a male restroom

Hah! OP is from NZ. Popular, English-speaking, and I can assure everyone, nice and warm right now Smile.

And in NZ it's appropriate for a mother to take her son into the men's toilets, ditto fathers & daughters, leastways it was when my children were younger.

JoannaObrien · 28/11/2019 04:18

Ooops! sorry I got your name wrong Fenella ... it is similar to someone on another site.

JoannaObrien · 28/11/2019 04:16

@VenellaVelour

I can assure you this one was empty whereas the ladies had a queue ... I am not trolling are you?

JoannaObrien · 28/11/2019 04:15

@GlamGiraffe

I am always seeing men (husbands) sitting outside changing rooms in dress shops waiting for their wives to stop trying on dresses. I never ever take my husband with me shopping he would be bored to tears. Besides he has no idea what looks good on me because one Christmas he got me dressing gown that my old Grannie would wear.

FenellaVelour · 28/11/2019 04:12

Men's toilets are usually empty...

Given you don’t know what empty means, I’m guessing you’ll happily use the men’s toilets when there are two or three men standing at the urinals.

I honestly can’t tell whether you’re trolling or just absolutely detached from reality.

GlamGiraffe · 28/11/2019 04:10

Joining in the fun now...this has given everyone in my household an insight into the workings of the minds of some others.

My husband and adult son both said exactly the same thing as I thought when they read this in astonishment. Random woman relaxing in mens toilets...my husband would have Bern very embarrassed and freaked out, but if she was sitting there with an indignant right to he there he would have given her a flash of his bum for sure. My son concurred. They both said they would suspect you were a locker thief in the usually unattended changing rooms and would have reported you.
I wondered what you would have done, in a ladies changing room, for example, in M&S bra fitting and had a man plonk himself there and you were trapped without a door,(because you couldnt close it with your sleeping 2 year old in his buggy and other child also with you) pretty much naked? I'm guessing this may not have gone down terribly well....check out the Bravisdimo thread. This could happen to you soon!!

JoannaObrien · 28/11/2019 04:10

@Penelopeschat

I am surprised the man with the hairy butt didn't complain about her loitering in the men's changing room ... I honestly think some men like women to look at their equipment even when we find it unattractive. I have had a few dick pictures sent to me on chat sites when I didn't request them or even flirt with the men in question. I don't think they would not of sent me them if they knew I was an older woman Grin

Penelopeschat · 28/11/2019 04:01

It would be quite funny if a poster came here and asked if AIBU for not liking the fact there was a woman sitting for 30 minutes in the men’s changeroom! Grin
