Bare bum in dressing room , AIBU.

I take DS to swimming. I got the times wrong turned up for the wrong lesson. I decide to go back to the changing room to wait. I find it hard to breath in the pool area, 30 minutes is ok, an hour and I can feel my asthma begin to act up.

There is a dad there getting his daughters dressed (fine) he was in the pool and he's down to his underwear.

Another dad arrives with his son, him and my DS are in the same lesson.

Anyways dad of daughters decides to get dressed... he drops his pants and is stark naked in front of his daughters. He is also by the door so if another parent was coming in their child would have walked into his penis! And it wasn't less than a minute because he was drying himself as well 🤢...

There are cubicles. He could have used a towel as well.

Why would and adult choose to get naked in a dressing room at a swim lesson for children with strangers around.

AIBU to find it bizarre?

His bum was also hairy and unattractive 🤢.

Oh this is just ridiculous. My DH regularly takes my 3 year old DD swimming. Luckily at our Centre there are large family changing cubicles so they change in there together in private but if there wasn't he would have to take her into the mens. Meaning that she might shock see other men getting changed. Because it would be absolutely wrong of him to go into the women's and he wouldn't dream of it.

As she's with her father, I highly doubt any harm is going to come to her and unless any of the men are running around windmilling or behaving otherwise inappropriately whilst naked I can't say I give two hoots that she might see another mans bum - hairy or otherwise!!! I bet she wouldn't even notice.

FenellaVelour · 27/11/2019 10:29

So if your husband takes your daughter swimming, where does he take her to change?

And no of course you shouldn’t be using the disabled/accessible toilets.

This gets worse and worse. Honestly can’t believe it’s real.

Chipsahoy · 27/11/2019 10:28

My ds hates going in the men's, not because there are men, nut because there are women drying their boys after swimming. He feels embarrassed as a pre teen, to be stripping off in front of a woman.
You take your son into the women's room, once over 8 they go into men's to change.

pinkboa · 27/11/2019 10:28

@Comefromaway

You should perhaps tell the parents who wheel their prams inside and either use it themselves... or or let their children use it or change a nappy in there.

I am genuinely laughing at the "most parents"... 🤣.

How would I know if someone has an invisible disability... or how would they I? I don't question people as to the reasons they use the toilet... I assume they needed it. And please note I said toilet, not changing room.

You should be calling the gov. And these private entities CF for the lack of facilities they provide. Imagine you go out and spend your hard earned money and can't provide a place for your infant to use the toilet? Outrageous! But I'll take the title! 💃🏻

it's not the done thing here

A woman sitting for half an hour in a men's changing rooms and getting all righteous indignation at a man taking his clothes off in there...
I'm not sure where in the world that IS the done thing, TBH.

Teachermaths · 27/11/2019 10:26

No people don't use the disabled toilet unless it is the only one with baby change facilities. If it's just for a normal toilet situation then the male/female toilets will suffice.

LochJessMonster · 27/11/2019 10:25

FYI he takes her to a disabled toilet if there isn't an available parents one...like most parents with children do... and this is something I have seen for myself. Nope. Disabled toilets are for disabled people.

It's not our fault the uk is unequipped and provide changing facilities in almost all female restrooms and not many in the men the changing facility is the whole flipping room!

Don't blame the fact that you didn't expect a man to get changed in a male changing room on culture, you're from Aus, a highly developed country ffs.

titsmcghee27 · 27/11/2019 10:24

Using a disabled facility to change in isn't ok. What if a disabled person needed to use it urgently?

ilovetofu · 27/11/2019 10:24

So you were in a male changing room & a man was naked in threre? 🤷‍♀️

pinkboa · 27/11/2019 10:20

@Dahlietta

Do I? Do I?
Feigns Shock

Or do I find general nakedness around other people's children an odd thing... whether Male or female.

But again I am told this is culturally accepted practice. Even if I find it odd.

NO, most parent don't use the disabled unless they or their child is disabled. (including invisible disabilities).

Being a CF is nothing to do with culture or nationality, its just being a CF.

@nocluewhattodoo

Oooh "I've got friends & family"

The old multicultural trope... let me insert 👋👋 ( jazz hands)

Perhaps you should read further up then.

OP posts:
Dahlietta · 27/11/2019 10:15

and unless you cannot read I have accepted my error.

You've accepted your error whether I can read or not, but you clearly still think the hairy-bummed chap in question was doing something wrong.

pinkboa · 27/11/2019 10:12

@Londonborncatty

I refuse to stand outside in the cold and it was also raining! Nope!

I'd take the unsightly bum over the cold and wet, even if it has tarnished my eyesight!

OP posts:
nocluewhattodoo · 27/11/2019 10:10

I have friends and family from many many different countries and cultures, I don't know anyone who would go into the opposite sex toilet or changing room as an adult.

To be honest anyone sitting fully clothed in a changing room, regardless of it being the correct for their sex, would seem very odd to me and I would report. Nakedness is expected in changing rooms, weirdos sitting and people watching aren't.

pinkboa · 27/11/2019 10:09

The levels of subjective reading here is becoming astounding... and you are reaching where there is nothing to reach for... I'm still having the giggles btw.

FYI he takes her to a disabled toilet if there isn't an available parents one...like most parents with children do... and this is something I have seen for myself.

Btw this is never something we had to contend with because in Australia there are parents rooms everywhere... where either parent can take their child to use the toilets or to feed your child (Breast /bottle-all have microwaves)

It's not our fault the uk is unequipped and provide changing facilities in almost all female restrooms and not many in the mens.

@CosmoK

Where did I say that?

@BoxOfBabyCheeses

Where did I say that?

@FenellaVelour

Where did I say that?

@Dahlietta
Of course he knows! He's been going to a pool since he was a child!

Let me say my husband is English... he knows what these places are like, he is also well aware of the rules. I am not.... and unless you cannot read I have accepted my error.

Londonborncatty · 27/11/2019 10:09

Pinkboa okay no reception, stand outside then but don’t sit in a changing room and then complain that someone got changed in it. It is odd!
I’m sure his daughters have survived seeing his body 🤣

OP so what does your husband do with your 4yo when she needs the loo? Does he really take her into the female toilets?

ign0re · 27/11/2019 09:57

Can you imagine the uproar if a man decided to just sit and chill in a women's changing room?

YABU for going into the men's changing room.

I am a member of a chain of naice gyms and go to them all over London, and the women frequently walk around starkers. With no care to any children being around. We do all have bodies after all.

If this had been unisex, sure I'd have expected a bit more privacy... I certainly wouldn't expect someone to look at my bum!!!

MrKlaw · 27/11/2019 09:56

I do find it odd you’d take your young son into a men’s toilet too - normally you’d go into your toilet - mum to women’s, men to men’s. And the child’s sex doesn’t matter (assuming they’re little).

Don’t see the issue with nudity of men in a male changing room. Again if kids are small they don’t care and arguably it’s good for them to see bits as just bits and perfectly normal. Assuming they’ve seen DH’s and it’s just nothing this is a logical extension of that

CosmoK · 27/11/2019 09:54

Your husband goes into womens toilets and changing rooms! That's outrageous!!

BlueDinosaur · 27/11/2019 09:53

Hahahahaha hilarious. Just imagine if a man did what you have just described in the women’s, he’d be thrown out and banned. I’m not quite sure why you think it’s ok for you to be in the men’s anyway?

If my husband took our children into the men’s changing room with him I’d expect the chances of there being naked men in there would be pretty high, it’s a changing room.

LannisterLion1 · 27/11/2019 09:51

Yabu. Man in man's changing room naked. Big wow.

I see plenty of women (including myself) in the women's who get naked to dry or change. In front of their kids and others.

I find it strange you find it odd. When potty training it wasn't just dh and i taking our dc to the loo, my dm and his dad, our dad's, siblings...they all went for a wee or poo too in front of them.

Dahlietta · 27/11/2019 09:46

My husband says he would never take our daughter in a men's room because of the general nudity...he doesn't mind it but doesn't want his 4yr old seeing another naked man.

So your husband knows that men take their clothes off in the men's changing rooms. Perhaps you should have asked him before you sat in there for 20 minutes Grin
