So why are people so mean and disrespectful of people with ginger hair?

It really upsets me.
What is wrong with ginger hair?
The amount of people that take the piss is shocking! I'm not ginger but it still gets on my wick. It's sad. Does anyone agree?

I never got any problems at school for being a redhead. I seem to be in the minority.

There is one adult I know who always says they hates gingers (in my presence) but the most worrying thing about that is that one of their children has red hair Hmm I worry about the child more than the idiot!

My hair is auburn and I used to dislike it when I was younger because I’d get teased about it. Now I love it, it’s a unique colour. People will sadly always pick on those who are different.

I think it's better now than it used to be tbh. I was bullied at school 15 years ago, "irn-bru heed" was the favourite comparison (unsurprisingly living in Scotland) and people asking if the carpet matched the curtains. I never even understood what that meant in my early teens!

I bumped into the main girl who bullied me a few years ago and imagine my surprise to see she'd bloody dyed her hair ginger Hmm

I only ever get compliments on my hair these days and my DS who has ginger hair has never had a bad word said to him about it as far as I'm aware.

My 13yo DD2 is fed up at being called ginger at school she’s not even ginger, blonde with a tinge of red in the sun. DD3 has the most stunning auburn hair and I dread her going to high school. Red hair truly is stunning but I do remember all the ginger pubes jokes at school too.

I'm a red head and yes, constant. If it's not my hair, it's my skin colour

Areyoufree · 30/09/2019 15:23

Anti-ginger sentiment is definitely a thing but I don’t remember it always being so.

I'm a red-head, and it is probably better now than it used to be! The worst was the full grown men asking me what colour my pubes are, which was a very regular occurrence from the age of 12 or 13.

Lockheart · 30/09/2019 15:22

I'm strawberry blonde and I've only ever had compliments about my hair colour.

But red hair is unusual. People who stand out get picked on by dickheads. It's got very little to do with the hair colour itself and everything to do with the fact that they're dickheads.

I've got close friends with ginger hair and they dont get any abuse about it, if anything they get people commenting on how lovely it is. Both men and women.

I know there are little jokes here and there but adults just dont seem to actually take the piss.

Anti-ginger sentiment is definitely a thing but I don’t remember it always being so. When I was a child “ginger nut” was probably the worst insult for red heads. FWIW, I regard the gingers as a bit exotic and am actually quite envious of their hair colour.
