To ask the Abbess to find me a solid lump of comfort and a cream cake

@NWKF That sounds brilliant! Do you by any chance have an electronic copy? I’d happily read it. I did buy a book about illness in children’S literature called something like “Pick Up Thy Bed and Walk”, which was really interesting.

Thank you so much! I’m sure my children don’t really need to eat 🤣

@Parker231 please may I have the link? I asked before but haven't had a pm from you, do you remember if you sent me one? Thank you!

Ooh! Please may I have the Dropbox link, my ex destroyed my collection when I was in refuge 😫

I’m looking into the missing non Chalet Schools books - had to play around with Dropbox as it stopped me sending anymore links.

@Parker231 I would LOVE the link if you are able to please!

@Parker231, you very kindly sent me the link for CS, which I am working my way through; and for extra non-CS books which appears to be empty. Is this a problem with my computer or have the books been removed?

Hi

I think I’m up to date in responding to any Dropbox links - have pm’d everyone who has asked. Please remind me if I’ve missed you.

That looks more garbled than I expected. Sorry! Minfq = minor frequent

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett asked if there's a list of which books were cut in the Armada paperbacks. I have such a list!!

Hi @Parker231 - another one looking for dropbox details so I can fill my lockdown time with useful activity (or nostalgic reading)

thank you

I’ve been buying them from a chalet school fb group I’m in. I’ve just finished Carola Storms and I’m after Bride Leads next. I think the Armishire / St Briavels books are my favourite.

Just started to read Chalet girls grow up.
Up to chapter 3 and I’ve had to put it down after domestic violence and rape. This is not a happy children’s book.
I read all the other books on the drop box and it took me back to my childhood thought I’d read the fill in books- absolutely awful.

@Parker231 if you are around I would love the link too please. I have just finished re-reading all the Georgette Heyer historical novels (I did start before COVID I hasten to add!), so I'd love to get started on the Chalet school books!

prompted by the Great British Menu's theme being children's literature, which then lead to me wondering what books I'd be inspired by (had I any cooking skill whatsoever...), so, naturally the Chalet School topped my list and it would have to be the dessert course with cake, and coffee and oodles of cream somehow. (Or possibly Anna's famous lemon biscuits...)

That would be excellent, NWKF!

So many of the chefs on that seem to have barely a nodding acquaintance with the books they've been "inspired" by.

Particularly disliked the chap who - because Oliver Twist had only had gruel and too little of that - cooked the most opulent things he could think of with extra added caviar. Because that would have cheered Oliver up.

And the woman who was inspired by the giant's search for a magic salmon... so she cooked halibut 🤦‍♀️

They seem to have found a dish, then looked around for a book to hang it on.

Enjoy!

@funnelfanjo

I received the link, Parker is around. Much appreciated! (Now to at least try to do some work for the rest of the afternoon...)

Does that mean you're sorted @Joisanofthedales ?

Thank you for the link.

Is Parker about - are people getting the dropbox link offline?

I am willing to set up a backup dropbox if Parker is no longer able to do it, it may take a few days though.

@Parker231 I would very much like to have the Dropbox link please. Live on my own and finding self isolation a bit lonely. Would love to dive back into the chalet school sea.

@TheLongDarkBreakfastTime I just finished a re-read of Trials at the weekend, which had a scarlet fever outbreak where they turned the school san into a quarantine for all infected persons on the Platz (plus taking over dorms when it spread further); naturally, introduced to the school by a Maynard (and likely spread back to schools in England via the boys)

There was a also a reference to a previous years' flu epidemic essentially shutting the school down (providing the "hilarious" story of Con declaring the Daniel bit the lions, which gets referenced here and I feel, a hundred times over again like the usual anecdotes!)

I did actually write a paper for a medical anthropology class way back about illness/health in children's literature, focusing on the Chalet School.

Hello to all! Just read through the last two threads as quarantine is apparently the time to revisit old fixations... prompted by the Great British Menu's theme being children's literature, which then lead to me wondering what books I'd be inspired by (had I any cooking skill whatsoever...), so, naturally the Chalet School topped my list and it would have to be the dessert course with cake, and coffee and oodles of cream somehow. (Or possibly Anna's famous lemon biscuits...)

@Parker231 May I also have the dropbox link? I have a handful of e-books from yonks ago, and I dropped a rather exorbitant amount of money on a bunch of hardbacks earlier in the year, but there's still gaps I'm looking to fill

Has the transcripts one went down ? It was hosted on Hotmail
