I was complained by two ladies in swimming pool

I am a regular swimmer. Got complained by two ladies who swim slowly and chatting side by side. The pool was busy and I had to occasionally swim between them. They asked the staff to talk to me saying they were there before me and I should move over in stead swim in between them. It was only a 20 meter public swim but they two occupied about two lane and swim very slowly. Be frank, I hate people swim and chat. When I swim freestyle I try to look but there might be one or two seconds that I was close to them but they have their heads up, insist swim side by side. I ask the staff, should he talk to them not blocking the whole two lanes? Annoyed! I probably need to get up at six to do the lane swim instead.

I was thinking of this thread whilst swimming this morning.

OP I think if you want to seriously swim lengths you really do need to do it in proper marked out lanes. I had to join a gym to do this as I can't swim at our local pool (as it is closed for school only use at the times I could go swimming) - so I joined gym to access proper laned pool for lengths. Half of the pool is in lanes, the other half is free roaming :)

I know what you mean op it drives me crazy too

That baby is a CF.

CassianAndor · 14/06/2019 15:21

I'm baffled by the baby.

It does look like these two chatters were taking up a substantial chunk of space - basically, no-one who was swimming lengths (which looks like most people) could swim in the two lanes they were, in effect, blocking. Which would be very annoying.

(Ivegot OP isn't English.)

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 14/06/2019 15:19

Sorry, people are just bloody weird at the pool sometimes.
Yes, mostly people like the OP who think they're Michael Phelps and they get to decide how the inferior swimmers can behave. The only sport that attracts more nasty tossers than swimming is cycling.

Ivegotthree · 14/06/2019 15:17

OP you sound really rude and aggressive.

RiddleyW · 14/06/2019 15:09

I don't understand what you mean by "hate people swim and chat" or "Got complained"

Then you have extremely poor reading comprehension- maybe you can find a course to help you raise your reading age.

butteryellow · 14/06/2019 15:05

People can swim by other people in a pool. There's no problem with you occasionally swimming between them, if, in the busy pool, that was the bit with the most room.

How do they know they were there first anyhow? You might have been over the other side.

(I go swimming, we have lanes. I am very slow. I go in the slow lane, I go around other slow swimmers or they go around me, in an anti-clockwise direction. We are all polite. No-one talks. This is how it should be. Trying to lane swim in a leisure pool is always going to be a nightmare)

Starlive23 · 14/06/2019 14:55

I hate this!!! Either swim or get out an chat! They were being U not you op

Nesssie · 14/06/2019 14:55

Unfortunately if it wasn't designate lane swimming then you don't have priority over them and if they were swimming there first then they can continue to do so. They've paid the same as you.
That's why there are specific lane swimming times for you to use if you wish.

From her diagram, it looks as if it Is lane swimming. In which case, the ladies were way out of line.

aphrodites · 14/06/2019 13:30

Sorry, people are just bloody weird at the pool sometimes. I used to take my eldest to the pool to do some swimming practice, the pool would be practically empty with 5 lanes and one bit left for non lane swimming and every single time there would be one person who would lane swim in the non lane bit and get huffy and twitchy that my son was in the lane, I did point out that most of the actual lanes were empty but got ignored and the huffing and PA continued Confused

Thequaffle · 14/06/2019 13:06

Oh but you do understand

Morgan12 · 14/06/2019 13:02

Please explain the baby?

GlamGiraffe · 14/06/2019 12:59

I sometimes utterly despair at the number of people on this site who are utterly intolerant and plain rude to someone who is VERY CLEARLY a non native speaker but still had the guts to post in written English online. Would those of you actally speak to them like that face to face?

Equally they could be severely dyslexic with virtually no comprehension of written English like my adult sons, similarly is teasing gloating and dare i say bullying fair or MORRALY CORRECT or dignified here either?

A public rather than private poll demands a level of give and take from all swimers. Getting repeatedly spashed violently in the face by kids deafening screams from babies and toddlers learning etc are par for the course, as are collisions and the like.

Perhaps no one is right or wong here.

floribunda18 · 14/06/2019 12:58

It's not like the rest of the pool was empty and you were swimming in between them to make a point or something, it was busy and it was unreasonable of them to effectively make a moving cordon up and down the pool.

I hope you were really splashy and soaked the shit out of the hair they were trying to keep dry as you went past.

SnuggyBuggy · 14/06/2019 12:48

This is batshit OP, just go lane swimming next time

GlamGiraffe · 14/06/2019 12:45

@user1472754004 what was happeni v in rhe rest of the pool that meant you couldn't swim in that part and move beside them?

carrotflinger · 14/06/2019 12:24

Why is the baby on its own and why is it taking up a lane all by itself??

TheInvestigator · 14/06/2019 11:48

*gentle exercise

OhMsBeliever · 14/06/2019 11:47

Forget the ladies who complained, I'm more worried about the baby on its own in your diagram! 😱😂

It's hard. I don't do lane swimming as I'm crap at swimming, and unfit, so wouldn't want to hold people up so I do it in the bit where people are mucking about and have to be wary of bumping into them. Though most of the time no one else seems bothered about bumping into me! But swimming pools are for swimming so if you want a chat with your friend you should either expect people to want to get past you or you should go and chat in a cafe/park/each other's houses.

TheInvestigator · 14/06/2019 11:47

OP, you use the pool to swim lengths. Other people use it for swimming and for socialising. You don't get to complaint about them using it to socialise. It's a public pool and you're there during leisure swimming, not lane swimming. The staff can chat to customers. Customers can swim and chat to each other. If you don't like it then don't use the pool during leisure swimming.
Do you realise that loneliness is an epidemic in this country? Especially for elderly people or single parents. If the pool provides a place for them to get some gebtlre exercise and some socialization, then that should be encouraged. You don't want to chat... that doesn't mean no one can. You don't make the rules.

Stop moaning and start swimming during lane sessions.
