In thinking that adults who are over excited by Harry Potter need to get a life?

I work in a secondary school and most teens/pre-teens are turned off by anything longer than 100 pages.

So anything that gets them reading is good IMO. I've even learned to curb my opinions of Jacqueline Wilson.

I will read the new HP book, but we'll only buy one copy, and ds1 will read it first.

And you don't get the impression he is hot in the books either.

Prisoner of Azkaban is the only one I've read as a friend lent it to me and I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.

My problem is that I found Prisoner of Azkaban the best of all of them, inc bks 4 5, so I've stopped bothering.

Any encouragement of reading is good news.
What is not so good is the cheap selling of the book in Tesco at the detriment of the rest of the book selling world.
But that isn't JK's fault, that's the fault of bloomsbury shooting it's own trade in the back.

so what if it's not great writing? so what if it's a kids book? so what if numerous other authors write better/more imaganitive/darker/more adult books?

who cares really? if people( and i very much coumt myself in that) enjoy them and get a bit of fun out of it and look forward to knowing what happens next-then what's the harm?

in the great scheme of things-does it matter?

i just don't get all the supercilious bitching done about these books.

I remember great children's books from my childhood and I'm looking forward to reading with my children but there are too many books that speak to me and challenge me as a adult that I don't find the time to read.

it is just a bit of fun.

I enjoy it, and can enjoy it with my kids. Which is more than can be said for Jaquiline Wilson and her stories of gloom

I've never been anywhere near a HP book or film, and dont think it would appeal.

But people's interest in it doesn't bother me. Live and let live. We're all different.
