No you're not being unreasonable. I have a pram but baby's only 2 months, I'd like to get another smaller easier to manage buggy but can't do yet. My mum managed to get hold of two travel systems off Freecycle, one to keep up at her house for us to use when we visit - she wants to keep the "all terrain" buggy for walking across Ilkley Moor, and one which I have down in London.

Bus drivers won't let us on if already two here, but I've survived so far. Thankfully the most likely buses to be too packed are also the most frequent.

I put my pram across sometimes but I move it if I see buggy #2 getting on the bus.

Bus drivers vary from helpful to rude, ditto passengers including others with buggies.

I'd never have got my dd's pram on a bus but I only took her on buses a few times with her umbrella stroller. Most of London buses are really good though as they drop down so you can wheel things straight on to it .

I agree with everyone who says ignore but wanted to say very jealous at two buggies getting on at once. Where I live the buses only have room for 1. German buses sound brill.

nappyaddict - i used to have a Mothercare Urban Detour pram when ds was littler this one, but it was a nightmare on the bus cause it was about a foot longer than i thought it was going to be! cue lots of clipped ankles in the early days when i was still getting used to having a buggy!!

we were very lucky because we were given one of these which is fab for the bus, you can actually get 4 stroller-type buggies on the buses in my area.

actually, it's funny you should mention wheelchairs. when ds was much, much smaller than he is now, i had him in the sling and there were 2 ladies on the bus with toddlers in strollers. a wheelchair wanted to get on the bus, and they refused to move. eventually, the wheelchair user and his carer waited for the next bus through sheer embarrassment, despite 2 massive signs saying wheelchairs have priority!

I'm lucky that DD will sleep on my back in a wrap, so I have the best of both worlds..except she gets heavier when she is asleep.

I see. I don't have that problem as we don't do long outings. We are on quite a strict routine and I prefer to have him sleep at home in bed. He only has one nap nowadays but it was quite restricting when he was younger and having two naps. I preferred to be restricted rather than have a grumpy and tired ds though!!

Ditto mawbroon, I use a Didy wrap or a Kozy Mei Tai to carry my daughter on bus journeys. I have not got the strength to carry a bag, my daughter and a pram on to and off a pram, much easier to have her hands free on my back

I have just moved back to the city and have started taking the bus again. After about 2 days of it, I decided to get an ergo carrier for ds as I am too lazy to be arsed folding buggys up and down. He is 20 months and 13kg and this is way easier for me than the buggy. I have a giant bum bag for nappies etc so we are completely hands free. And, we can go upstairs on the bus which ds loves. Is a carrier something you would consider and then you can let these bags on the bus complain about somebody else!!

Come to Berlin - loads of room on (almost all) buses for buggies, nobody folds them. Was on a bus with ds in buggy and 5 other buggies once - OK, 4 of them were the stroller type, and it was a bit crowded, but the other passengers and the drivers didn't bat an eyelid. They run on time too! One thing the Germans really get right (along with tenants' rights and recycling) is public transport.

i live in the middle of the city and try to walk everywhere with ds. when taking a bus, i almost always carried him in the baby bjorn until he was about 11 mos, just beacuse of the difficulty getting on & off the bus. still put him in it sometimes though if i'm using a bus route that is busy/has no wheelchair/stroller access.

i got in the habit of using the carrier because people are just so bloody nasty when you take a pram on the bus, drivers included. when you've had a hard day and maybe a sleepless nigh/bay teething etc it can be just enough to put you over the edge.

I used to live in the country (back in Ireland) and our buses were more like coaches. Used to have to take DD1 to the bus stop, put her in a sling, fold up the buggy, load it onto the side or back luggage hold of the bus, get on and do it all again at the other end and remember to remind the bus driver that I had to get the buggy off so he didn't drive off with it as soon as I stepped off. Gagh!

so much better to be able to push buggys straight onto bus. drivers keep going past me as i'm struggling to fold my naffing thing up.

Ignore! Big buggies are the four wheel drives of the bus world. I have a Mountain Buggy. It's HUGE. Long AND wide wheelbase and I get on the bus with it. Only problem I've had so far is a bus driver of a single decker trying to tell me, after I had swiped my Oyster card and politely suggested I get on at the back as I had a large pushchair, that I HAD to get on at the front with the pram. "Fine," sez I, "but I'll be blocking the aisle because this yoke does not fit through there." Silly muppet bus driver. They're usually pleased when I offer to get on the back. I usually do if there are people standing in the forward part of the aisle of the bigger buses.

If another person with a pram gets on, I shift mine about to squeeze the other one in and smile and apologise, but if some bint was rude to me about it, I'd probably say, "Gosh, yes, it is a tight squeeze. The driver probably should have told you to fold yours or wait for the next bus. That's ALWAYS happening to me when there's already someone on the bus with a pram."

whenever i get on the bus with my 2.5 ds and 15m dd in her maclaren, there is always another mum with her buggy parked across the length of the buggy area and never moves it to let anyone else get in there and i end up squashed against the doors having to move a buggy and a toddler everytime the bus stops. wouldn't mind, but her ds doesnt even sit in the bloody thing for the journey.
i just make sure that i make life as difficult as possible for her when she goes to get off by not moving my buggy quickly enough and clipping her wheels when she does move.
i made her miss her stop once by delaying her. now that was bloody satisfying i tell you.
