This may seem a silly question but since it’s an anonymous forum I’ll ask anyway. I’ve NC.

If you ever experimented or used drugs, what did you use and what made you choose that drug? I want to have an open conversation with my teenage child about why people may use certain drugs and what situations they will come up in but I don’t have a huge amount of experience on it. I know the internet has information but would like some realistic stories from the ladies of MN.

I took methadrone a few times as a teen before it was illegal. I found it very addictive so threw the rest of what I had away after using 3 times or so. I took a few other obscure things but nothing serious. Never tried weed or anything else that.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 20/02/2019 21:18

I've OD'd about 10 times. A couple were on purpose, but mostly accidental. If I really think about it, I'm lucky to be alive. I had mentioned on another thread that I took 50 Ativan (anti anxiety med) in a space of 4 days. I'm only supposed to take 3 a day. There were 1 mg each though. So eh. However, my doctor kinda freaked out about it and said I could have killed myself. I'm going through a rough time atm, so not really sure if it was latent (just really want to off myself or just try to kill everything)

I have severe back problems from my old job and need back surgery so I take Percocet. I've hypothetically abused that before, just to numb myself so I don't have to deal with the way I'm feeling.

I told my shrink the other day, and my husband last weekend that I thought I was a drug addict. It felt really weird saying it. Mostly because I hate all recreational drugs (pot, coke, crack, meth etc) and I don't even drink alcohol. He thought maybe I was, so we decided to go to my shrink and ask her what she thought. I was totally honest and total her everything. Even about the Ativan. Surprisingly, she said she didn't think I was a drug addict and that I've just been triggered lately by my therapist retiring. So, I back on different meds yada yada, and I have to get my new anxiety meds (which is Xanax now) on a weekly basis so I don't OD.

So, to answer your question, I think most people, if not all, take drugs to kill and numb whatever pain they're going through. And, I've never been on coke, but if it's anything like mania it is the best fucking feeling in the world. I quite miss it actually, but I am quite the asshole when I'm high.

Oh, and I've used X (ectasy) once, and it was fabulous. However, I liked it too much and I knew that it would get me into trouble. I would have liked to try acid or shrooms but my head is so fucked to begin with, I think I'd have a real rotten time a regret it.

Best of luck with your kid though! I'm sure you'll both be fine. Smile

Theorangeorange · 20/02/2019 21:08

Most party drugs - weed, pills etc but coke was my drug of choice until I had children.

I had some great times made good friends and wouldn't change it. I've had no adverse effects.

Now I'm mid-thirties and my only vice is alcohol, but that's a rarity (twice a month)

vampirethriller · 20/02/2019 21:07

@todayiwin thank you! It's hard and lonely but it's worth it.

Jinglejanglefish · 20/02/2019 21:03

I’ve smoked weed quite a bit over the years but never as a regular thing, just as and when it’s been around. I’m not hugely affected by it but dp gets stoned very easily, a proper lightweight!

Tried pills and mdma when I was 17/18 as it was around in my friendship group and it was a lot of fun 🤷‍♀️ I haven’t done any since I was 18.

Tried coke a few times as a teen then did it more regularly in my early 20s with ex dp and his mates. Probably about once a month for a year or so. I wouldn’t do it now, it makes people incredibly dull and self obsessed, and gets stuck in my throat and makes me feel sick.

A big upside with my drug taking was it’s hangover free, but I never really sought it out or bought it myself.

These drugs have all been things I still feel fairly in control of myself with. I have no interest in things like acid or mushrooms that makes you go loopy.

JustDanceAddict · 20/02/2019 20:55

Only weed - I was at uni when I first had a spliff. I just wanted to see what would happen - I never had it loads but It was always around. Mainly in my 20s although I have had the odd toke at parties but not for a few years now.
I rubbed cocaine into my gums but was too chicken to snort it! I knew a lot of people @ uni who did Es, shrooms etc but I never wanted to.,I don’t like being out of control and have always preferred to drink.

Ribbonsonabox · 20/02/2019 20:51

I've taken a lot of drugs.
Had a big problem throughoit my teens which I sorted out in my mid twenties.
I've tried pretty much anything I could get hold of...
I developed an addiction to speed/methamphetamine/mcat or at a push cocaine... (idve accepted any of these as a substitute on not being able to get speed)... I would do them for around 4 days straight without sleeping and then use whatever opiates/diazepam/barbiturates I could get hold of to come down and sleep.

I would sometimes take other things such as LSD, mushrooms, ketamine... pretty much whatever was on offer... I wasnt addicted to any of those types of things like I was to speed however... even coke I would not ideally have chosen over speed. I'd take it if I couldn't find speed but I wasnt keen on it.
Had a lot of fun on hallucinogens but they arent something I ever actively sort out... ketamine i did a few times but hated it. Mandy was just something I took because people had it out and offered it... I had some enjoyable experiences on it but again was not something I'd actively seek out.
Opiates were just something I took to sleep after all the speed... I think I've been very lucky here not to develop an opiate or diazepam addiction.. I certainly ran the risk of one. Out of anything I've seen people struggle to come off these things the most. I once injected heroin and absolutely hated it... threw up for what seemed like eternity and was just very confused, not in a nice way... I dont think I respond well to downers... so that put me off ever doing that again for fun
Strangely I never really liked alcohol or weed.
I have the odd drink now days but I've never liked getting drunk.
Speed was the thing for me it made me feel incredible but also absolutely left my life and mental health in tatters.
In my experience different drugs click for different people.. in the way alcohol can be fine for one person but ruin anothers life... I'm not sure you can predict which drug it's going to be... I'd say it's best to treat all of them with caution... something that starts out as a bit of fun can easily get out of control before you've even noticed.

NoCauseRebel · 20/02/2019 20:50

Never tried anything. I wouldn’t even know where to get hold of it.

And am teetotal.

icannotremember · 20/02/2019 20:40

I started smoking tobacco aged 11. Alcohol we started experimenting with at 14. Weed 15 or 16. Speed and pills, 17 or so. Alcohol was probably the thing I abused most. I really enjoyed the times I used speed and pills, and weed I always loved. Coke I never tried because too many of my friends became boring as fuck when using, I have enough insight to know that if I tried heroin or crack I would descend quickly into addiction so I never would, I never got the chance to try lsd and think it's a bit late now.

My drug experiences are far more positive than negative. But I know a lot of people for whom the opposite has been true.

problem1234567 · 20/02/2019 20:37

For those of you who had cocaine issues in the past and have managed to get off it successfully, how have you done so?

Someone important to me is struggling, and heavily addicted. They have tried to come off it before but without success.

todayiwin · 20/02/2019 20:36

Hi @vampirethriller (sorry to hijack thread!) just wanted to say well done. Member of my family was in active addiction for 16 years. Clean 2 years now. I am a huge advocate for awareness around addiction.

Well done. Recovery is tough, but worth every minute. One day at a time.

Druggatydrugdrug · 20/02/2019 20:33

I smoked a lot of weed when younger, for quite a few years really, I don't think I suffered any ill effects from it, and I really enjoyed it at the time. Even now if I was out at a party and someone offered me some I'd definitely smoke it, it's a lot less harmful than alcohol.

In my teens I also took ecstasy, cocain, acid, base (anphetamin/poor mans coke), MDMA, magic mushrooms and so on. I enjoyed it, not gonna lie. Much preferred it to drinking alcohol and never felt out of control in the way that you do when really drunk. My friends were all doing it to and it didn't seem out of the ordinary.

I haven't done anything like that since I was a teenager though, well except for the odd line of coke here and there.

I very sadly had a friend die when he was 17 of an ecstasy over dose (he took something like 13 pills) and that put me off doing them again. You just never know how your body will react or what those pills have in your them.

Bunnybigears · 20/02/2019 20:33

Smoked weed and ate hash cakes as student. Would never touch anything else and haven't smoked weed since I left university.

Wallywobbles · 20/02/2019 20:32

Hash 16-40. Apart from when pregnant or being taken to court by my ex. Then got pneumonia and could never smoke again Coke twice but really not my bag. Mushrooms as they grow in our fields. Acid a couple of times at uni. E a dozen times.

Loads of friends did masses more but I always knew my MH wasn't up to it.

Was t-total from 19-25. Now drink more than I should. But it's my only vice and legal which is good.

lotusbell · 20/02/2019 20:30

Only ever weed, too scared to try anything else, don't like being out if control. Stopped smoking weed when it went on too long and I felt like I'd crossed a line. Saw my eyeballs walking in front of my eyes, it freaked me out Confused

MyBreadIsEggy · 20/02/2019 20:29

I smoked weed a few times as a teenager, like 14/15 years old, nice, giggly, happy feeling - nothing overly excited to report.
Tried cocaine once at 16, and it made me feel like my heart was going to explode out of my chest.
Then I joined the army straight out of school and learned about the joys of compulsory drugs testing, so experimenting with drugs simply wasn’t worth it at that point. A single positive reading and I would have kissed my job goodbye with a dishonourable discharge.

yogafailure · 20/02/2019 20:29

Never tried anything. Too much of a control freak. I didn't even take prescribed Tramadol when I had two prolapsed discs. I've never smoked so my only vice is the occasional vodka n coke.

GruciusMalfoy · 20/02/2019 20:26

Just weed. I loved it, loved how chilled out I was (after the initial laughing fits). I sometimes get a bit of nostalgia for it when I catch a whiff of it. I wouldn't smoke when I have young kids, but wouldn't discount it when I no longer have them at home.

I've never had a desire to try anything else.

teenagetantrums · 20/02/2019 20:22

I did a lot of coke in my 20s. Pills and acid in my early 20s. Was nice on a night out. Now my biggest vice is wine. I don't regret any of it was good times it l grew out of it. Did Meno harm

tangledyarn · 20/02/2019 20:22

Spent a few years in my 20s taking too many drugs but not necessarily enough for it to ever become really problematic, smoked weed most days and ecstacy/cocaine most weekends along with 2cb mushrooms, diazepam etc. I don't regret it, I had a good time mostly but I can see it would have been easy for it to have escalated and have became problematic.

JustBeingJobless · 20/02/2019 20:20

I smoked a fair bit of weed in my late teens, but nothing else. I loved how weed made me feel, and if I could get away with smoking it now, I would as I have a spinal condition and I think it would help no end, but I’m too paranoid about the smell etc.

brimfullofasha · 20/02/2019 20:18

I smoked a bit of weed and tried mdma and cocaine. I had some good, and a really terrible experience with mushrooms and I would never do that again.

This was all down to a boyfriend who did quite a bit. I was never brave enough to get hold of anything on my own. His mental health suffered which also put me off.

Olivebrach · 20/02/2019 20:18

Drank alcohol from about 13/14. Stopped at about 19 cause didnt like the feeling anymore, made me feel depressed and anxious.
took ecstacy/mdma at about 17 for couple of years, probably tried it due to peer pressure but i thought it was the best thing ever Grin only stopped because of a controlling bf at 19. Dont think I could deal with the come down now tho tbh.
Smoked weed at 17 too because I just fancied trying it so me and my friend sourced some. Had a few hazy years as a late teen and hung about with a bit of a stoner crowd, it didnt really do me any harm did well at college ect. Probably made me a bit moody and secretive towards my parents though.
I have smoked weed since (with a vape now, no tobacco) apart from when i was pregnant/had a newborn and i love it, helps me relax, think more positive and puts things in perspective when im in a low mood.
I really think cannabis should be normalised and obviously legalised. If people knew what they were buying (strain and strength) it would be much better than the current system.

TidaQuel · 20/02/2019 20:18

Smoked hash a lot from about 16-20. Tried speed a few times but never got anything from it. Friends would be off their faces and I’d get nothing. Enjoyed magic mushrooms. Hung around with friends that would drop an E or take acid every weekend down the local pub. I tried acid a couple of times, at festivals and had a great time on it but both times took it where I felt comfortable. Grew out of it all aged around 22 and living in a country with strict drugs laws.

Arowana · 20/02/2019 20:15

I smoked marijuana a bit (not much) in my teens and early 20s, but basically I was very restrained given that all my school friends tried ecstasy and my boyfriend was taking acid at the time. I'm not sure why I didn't join them - if only I could bottle the reason and sell it I'd be a rich woman!
