To ask the truth about your drug use?

This may seem a silly question but since it’s an anonymous forum I’ll ask anyway. I’ve NC.

If you ever experimented or used drugs, what did you use and what made you choose that drug? I want to have an open conversation with my teenage child about why people may use certain drugs and what situations they will come up in but I don’t have a huge amount of experience on it. I know the internet has information but would like some realistic stories from the ladies of MN.

The acid with good people is because in the wrong company they can send you on a bad trip. If you're with good people and happen to start having a bad trip they can talk you down and make you realise you're tripping.

serialtester · 20/02/2019 22:49

Like a lot of people tried everything in my late teens:early twenties. Then graduated to wine. Then graduated to wine with the occasional line and then became a coke addict. Have been clean for nearly a year. I don't regret dabbling - I had some great times. And if it wasn't coke I'd have got hooked on something else.

cindersrella · 20/02/2019 22:43

Love ecstasy, speed, mushrooms and acid. As @SkaterGrrrrl said though, acid should only be used in a truly safe space with truly good people.

Should acid be used in a truely safe place with truly good people incase it kills you?... are the truly good people using it too?
If so and I have never taken it but would they be able to do what is needed to stop you dying or am I being dramatic?

I am not taking the piss when I ask this, I genuinely don't know... I'm a bit naive to most drugs and what they do to you?

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 20/02/2019 22:38

Dutch1e That's pretty cool that your like that with your kids. My father was a real dick, but we had the kind of relationship that you have with your daughter in that regard. I told him everything.

Just, to let you know though, codeine is nothing like Percocet or other types of oxycodones. I wouldn't recommend trying it though unless, you need it after surgery or a severe injury.

Glad you to see you've got things under control. Smile

3in4years · 20/02/2019 22:38

I am embarrassed and ashamed by what I did in my 20s. Recklessness. Now I have kids I wouldn't touch anything but back then I did it all. Pursuing fun, and a silly boy, mostly.

AhhhHereItGoes · 20/02/2019 22:28

Used alcohol, smoked socially and dabbled in cannabis.

I tried cannabis as I'd seen others in it and they were not out of it and it seemed relaxing. Also trusted the provider.

Been offered coke/crack cocaine but turned that down.

The only other I may have considered was Ecstasy but wasn't asked and not interested enough to seek it out.

Was on Oramorph after C Section so I guess I have a rough idea how opiates feel, though in a controlled way.

Handay · 20/02/2019 22:23

One thing I don't get about the legalise weed argument is that there's this massive anti smoking thing but people seem to think it's ok to smoke weed around others but not tobacco.

funfair · 20/02/2019 22:19

Never done any drugs. Don't like feeling out of control. I do drink alcohol but I hate being drunk, so will only have a couple.

Dutch1e · 20/02/2019 22:13

Smoked weed when younger but stopped pretty quickly as it makes me paranoid and gives me insomnia.

Love ecstasy, speed, mushrooms and acid. As @SkaterGrrrrl said though, acid should only be used in a truly safe space with truly good people.

I've smoked opium and it was mildly ok but never tried heroin as I have a weirdly high tolerance for other opioids like codeine.

Tried nitrous and rush (do any old 90s ravers remember rush) and they were fine too.

Never used pharmaceuticals recreationally.

I'm addicted to tobacco but nothing else. It was 10 years since I'd used any drugs until recently when I realised that the Dutch reputation for excellent ecstasy is well-deserved. I can imagine I'll be having a couple of pills twice a year-ish while out with good friends.

Well done for wanting to speak honestly with your kids about drugs. My eldest is in her 20s and I've been open with her. She's not a drug user but it was lovely when she phoned and said "hey I'm going to try this, have you used it? Also, I'll be with Tim and Jane at their house. Do you mind if I call you if it goes tits up?"

HairyToity · 20/02/2019 22:10

I did poppers under peer pressure. Would never even do poppers now.

Also tried smoking. Again peer pressure.

I didn't want to try either.

winsinbin · 20/02/2019 22:08

I grew up in South London in the 70s and early 80w. Was surrounded by weed in various forms, my brothers and sisters used it as did many people I knew . Worked in the city in the 80s and 90s so cocaine was readily available. Now divide my time between South London and Brighton which both still have strong drug cultures. I’ve never used any drug other than alcohol (and I definitely overdid it on that front). I think because it always seemed so sleazy and unnecessary. Even in Amsterdam the brown cafes looked dingy and uninviting.

That being said I will be visiting Canada later this year where cannabis has been legalised so I might give it a try there.

MrsKoala · 20/02/2019 22:02

First tried weed and resin (I think that’s what the hard block stuff was called) at about 14, was never really keen.

Started on speed, then e’s, mdma and ketamine at about 15-16. Loved that all.

Tried acid and mushrooms at 16 and hated it.

Coke at 18. Loved that feeling too.

Some prescription drugs like temazepam and stuff like that, but rarely.

Stopped most of it by 21 apart from the occasional pill or line at parties till I was about 30.

Never felt addicted to any of it and found it quite easy to take it or leave it.

I am a big drinker tho. That’s where my problems have always been and where all the trouble when I was young stemmed from.

BillyAndTheSillies · 20/02/2019 22:01

Smoked weed daily through first and second year of university. I loved it. I stopped after I started getting daily panic attacks and became so paranoid I needed someone to come with me to the shop at the top of the road because I was scared something would happen. Haven't touched it in over 10 years.

Anything else I tried, MDMA, cocaine, ketamine, M-Cat was purely out of my own curiosity. Always tried out in a safe space around people I knew before doing it more socially. This was mainly at uni or at festivals/holidays. Thankfully I never became addicted to any of them, I suppose mainly for financial reasons. They were always a pay day treat so once a month or so. When I moved back to London after uni, I pretty much stopped everything as didn't have the contacts to carry on. Wouldn't even know where to start looking for a hook up!

Nowadays, I'm a married mum and drugs just aren't on my agenda or radar. DH is teetotal and never touched anything stronger than weed, dead against it. I still drink though.

gayandokay · 20/02/2019 21:59

Started with smoking weed at about 11, then did mkat/meow meow at 13 after being groomed and pressured by older people at school. At 14 I tried ecstasy and poppers at an illegal rave. Continued the use of weed but didn't touch anything else until last year when I spiralled out of control, doing MDMA at any party/rave, did it at home with a friend just for the fun of it, started sniffing cocaine daily and doing balloons. Then met my partner and shes helped me stop all drug habits, stop smoking and I'm now 100% sober. I'm only 20 Grin

theworldistoosmall · 20/02/2019 21:56

@problem. I just stopped taking it. I was doing a lot of coke, fucking the dealer at the time. Woke up one day and just thought fuck it. Have dabbled a couple of times since, but a gram or two and then nothing for years.

BitchQueen90 · 20/02/2019 21:51

Only drug I've ever used is alcohol.

My dad used drugs and it put me off for life.

Although I do think weed should be legalised.

candlefloozy · 20/02/2019 21:46

Never had any drugs apart from
Alcohol? Never smoked weed or anything. My sister in law said to me when I was in my early teens that she couldn't do drugs because if she took some and ended up in hospital (or worse?!) then her parents would know that she'd taken drugs and would be so ashamed. So I've never touched anything.

Mummadeeze · 20/02/2019 21:46

I loved speed when I was younger. I went through a phase of taking it everyday at Uni. I also took ecstasy which I enjoyed but usually in combination with speed. Coke didn’t feel fun in anyway, it just made my heart race and made me feel a bit ill. Acid was horrendous but mushrooms were hilarious and brilliant. I calmed down when I left Uni and got a job and then stopped altogether when I had my child. If I am honest, I don’t regret any of it as clubbing and drugs, dancing and music was such a fun uplifting hobby to be involved in at the time. But I don’t regret giving it up either, it was a carefree lifestyle which didn’t fit with ambition or responsibility. I am lucky that I could enjoy it in moderation and was able to stop easily, I know it isn’t like that for everyone. What I would say is that I have been in many more dangerous situations when drunk than when on drugs. Alcohol has made me very vulnerable at times and that was definitely never the case with chemicals.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 20/02/2019 21:45

CherryPavlova, actually, I think all pot should be made legal and taxed. And, I'm married to law enforcement and DH thinks that way too. Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean it can't help other people. It's a lot safer than alcohol in my opinion.

And, prescription drugs like opioids can really be addictive, trust me.

CherryPavlova · 20/02/2019 21:40

Prescription drugs only.
I’ve seen the damage ‘only weed’ can cause. Very intolerant of any illegal drug use.

Cathmidston · 20/02/2019 21:34

Nope nothing ..not even regular smoking

deadsexy · 20/02/2019 21:30

Tried weed once, made me tired never again.

Tried cocaine once, one of best nights ever but never again.

Both at uni.
Nothing since

Geekster1963 · 20/02/2019 21:24

I've never taken any illegal drugs and I've never even tried a cigarette. I have had Codiene on prescription a couple of times and with the spaced out 'happy' feeling it gave me I can see why people would get addicted to it. So I'm glad I never really tried any.

Shookethtothecore · 20/02/2019 21:23

@problem. For me, it was very nearly loosing everything. I got sacked from work, lost a lot of friends, avoided my family and then one day, after a 3 day bender and people looking for me I went to my friends house as I’d lost my keys. I remember the look on her face of me sat on her doorstep. The come down had kicked in and I just thought “nope I ant do this anymore” I avoided anyone I did drugs with and focused and surrounded myself with clean people.

howhowhow · 20/02/2019 21:21

I have genuinely never taken anything other than a couple of drags on a spliff that I didn't inhale. Not even a fag. Lots of alcohol that has got me into some pretty risky situations though.

I had lots of friends that took stuff but I didn't want to accidentally overdose or end up an addict. My mum was a district midwife whilst I was at an impressionable age during the 80's and 90's and I remember frankly terrifying posters warning of the dangers of drugs and risk of hiv literally everywhere and particularly in dr's surgeries. When I was a bit older I was pretty focused on exam results / career so didn't bother. I'm glad of that now.

My husband uses coke recreationally and I think he's an idiot for that. It def changes his personality and not in a good way. He turns into a bit of a knob. Purely anecdotally but my friends that smoked weed in our teens have a lot of mental health issues these days (40's now).

My daughter is approaching teenage years and I tell her everything and try and be very open. Alcohol is a bad bad drug too though (trying hard to limit my intake of it).
